Excellent video! I'm not a dyer, but I really enjoy learning about the process through your videos. This one greatly appealed to me as a retired "techie". I love the precision of this system as a means of documenting and scaling a dye process. It also helps that I have always been somewhat obsessed with describing and "formula-izing" processes with spreadsheets and such. Alanna created an amazing tool for you folks.
I've been holding back on dyeing colors for some larger projects I want to knit - so this is a fun way for me to think about getting the colors perfect before doing 400-600 g of yarn in a color. :D
I love the mini gradients. That would be a beautiful something. I glaze over when you start with all the math but l like the way you dye girl. Bea u ti ful!
I love love love doing mini gradients like this. I realized it would be useful to show how you can use the minis also to get the color that you want (while making an awesome gradient at the same time.)
Really enjoying yr videos. I have ordered everything I need to start dyeing yarn myself, so at the moment you are my best friend lol xxxxx
really loving that pink! such a lovely gradient and that bright pink speaks to my heart. 💖
Thank you so much!

What a great video! Love, love, love those colors. Thank you for the video and all the great information. This is definitely a keeper video!
I'm so so glad it was helpful! As I was editing I wasn't sure if I had mucked it up. I have so much less filming time these days.
Love your podcast once again - your animated way of teaching and explaining just makes my lockdown day - I loved the pinks ombre minis gorgeous you are a master of dyeing !!!
Thank you so much, Ann! I truly love what I do.
That 1/2% looks like pink tourmaline‼🤩

Love how the colors turned out!
Thank you!
Perfect color choice for spring!
This pink is making me so so so happy!
I think you like to have more fun with the dye(which is why I watch you!)and see what happens!
It is true - I do like to dye by feel a lot. BUT I do want to make a fade sweater for myself at some point and so I think I would do this kind of thing to get the colors exactly the way I want them. :D
This was great. Thank you. Stay safe. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! You too!
This is just an excellent tutorial! 🥰
Thank you so much!

С удовольствием смотрю ваши уроки, всё красиво и подробно, но можно чуть медленнее говорить, не успеваю читать авто перевод.

Спасибо🙏💕
80ml dye stock for a 4% depth of shade on 20g of yarn. So 400ml of 1% dye stock solution for 100g of yarn? And to make 400ml of 1% dye stock, you’d need 4 grams of dye and 400ml water? (I hate math.) When trying to create solids, or barely-tonals, it seems almost impossible to work with any dye before doing the type of experiment you did here. DOS seems to vary so much from color to color. Thanks for this clear demonstration!!!
Great information. Do you always try out color combinations on mini skeins?
Not always, but sometimes. For videos, it is useful to use minis because I can process more colors at once. It can also be more economical to test on minis than full skeins. I also just enjoy making miniskein fade sets a lot!
Oh man! Way too complicated for me!! But your yarn came out so beautiful!
This was a math heavy video for sure - You don't have to go as deep into calculations as I did, but it does help if you want to scale up a recipe. :D
Can you tell us about the picture behind you on the wall under the stairs? Is it a family collage, vacation pictures, or something else?
Absolutely! It is a collage of selfies of me & Keith + some photos of us with friends and family. There was a program that would take a folder of photos and then arrange them to create a larger image. If you back up far enough you can see that these form a penguin. I think the only non-people images are the cakes that we made for our PhD celebrations. We made this poster for our wedding (but then never ended up using it for the actual event.) We tried to have at least one photo of everyone who was going to be at the wedding in here.
I really want pickled beets now, Rebecca, but we've already finished our last jar months ago! Why do you do these things!?
LOL! Now **I** want some beets!
Blech! I hate beets but my partner loves ‘em and I pickle them for him. I just throw garlic, a clove or two, mustard seed, salt, peppercorns, etc. into a jar, and the cooked beets cut in bite-size pieces, cover them with white vinegar and refrigerate them. They’re good for a month if they last that long. I often use the brine for a second and third batch of cooked beets.
@@dorothyyoung8231 I like to do them with cloves, cumin, and cardamom
Thanks for the link but under the current Covid 19 out of work $50 is outrageous!
Hey, I just wanted to reach out and say I'm sorry to hear your financial situation was effected by the virus. If you go to my website and send me a message I'm happy to work out a payscale so that you can still have access to the content 💕
Finances right now are so tight for so many people. Thank you, Alanna, for offering to work with people to access the course.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials Of course! We're all trying to figure out how to adjust, I am hoping put up more tutorials online will help offset the loss of live workshops I had planned for the year. Everyone is effected in one way or another.
Why cant she be my neighbor? We would be besties!
Awe, thank you!
What happens with all of this yarn you dye?! It might be more economical (not to mention easier) to use 100% wool fabric pieces when you're working on these kinds of projects. You could easily sell the resultant fabric to the folks who do traditional north american rug hooking. :)
I have an Etsy shop! chemknitscreations.etsy.com/ Most of the yarn I dye ends up there. I agree that otherwise wool fabric would work really well for swatches.
@@ChemKnitsTutorials Oh that's awesome! What a great idea! I've really been binging your channel lately. Great content!
