  • Hey guys, I am back after a little break to show you how to dye yarn with food colouring right there in your own kitchen!
*ETA - JUST NOTICED A COUPLE OF EDITING ISSUES WITH THE RECORDING - I HATE ADOBE PREMIER PRO. THAT IS ALL***
To have a go at this you don't need any special equipment, just some natural fibre yarn - animal fibres do work best - and superwash is preferable because it won't felt.
You will also need, some acid - citric or vinegar it's up to you and food colouring, I used Wiltons food dyes, but I've seen this done with easter egg dye before too.
Finally, a receptacle and some heat to heat it up with to set your yarn.
Oh.... you will also need a sense of imagination and a little flair if you can muster it - though gay abandon is also just fine.
Please share any of your creations with me by tagging me on Instagram @alumtherubyfox
If you've wanted to give this a go I have used cheap merino or misc. wool from spotlight before but if you want to go the whole hog with some of the more fancy yarns in the video you can always hop over to my Etsy store and pick up some undyed yarns -
