Made one of these several years ago when a sanding pad from my random orbit sailed off the sander. Since the hook and loop was still in excellent condition I turned it into a sanding pad and it has been on my workbench ever since. These are very handy.

Colin, thank you SO MUCH for this idea! Years ago I got some 3M HookIt II sandpaper. Guess what? No disc to put them on, since they were the rough side of velcro (needing the fuzzy size to stick), not the fuzzy side, like the regular HookIt. They've sat for what seems like forever, and now, with this video, (and using the fuzzy side of velcro instead of the loop side) I was able to make sanding discs (albeit handheld, but a holder, just the same) for both sizes of sanding discs! (My little one I think is my favorite, being the easiest to hold.) I was so happy with how it worked for the HookIt II that I made some for the regular HookIt discs as well. You're a gem! Thank You!

Impressive! I'm going to make one this weekend..with a few changes. First I'll use my circle cutting jig on my bandsaw to cut the base of the sander. I already made a length of "handle stock" as I call it for a previous project so that will serve as the handle. And I'll attach it with dowels. I like the storage for the disks. Thank you for the inspiration!

I just made one peg holder with two pegs. I store the different grits in the order of use, i.e. 100 on top 120 immediately below that, etc. I use the two pegs to align the paper to the disc sander and then slip the paper off the holder onto the sander

Thanks for sharing this, Colin. I'm going to build something similar. A suggestion: Maybe put the coarsest grits on the bottom of your caddy and work up so you don't pick up a stray oversize grit on your finer sandpaper. Picking up an undersized stray is not a problem, but an oversized one could be extremely annoying.

That's a great idea. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for sharing. But I'll have to make some adaptations. I've never seen in hook and loop/Velcro in sheets (only in 3 cm wide straps)
but last year I bought a hook-and-loop sanding device which I can mount into my drill chuck or connect to my angle grinder (it came with a 14 mm threaded rod for that)
Somehow it should be possible to make a handle for that and use it as a hand disc sander.

    Very cool Colin!
Your caddy has inspired me to slightly redesign my planned one for the bench.
Everything is going to be the same, except:
-I saw "A" need for the bottom of the box to be slightly angled up, 10 to 15 degrees, so everything "migrates" away from the front edge.
    - I "may possibly cut the back slightly higher, 1"-1.5", so I can incorporate a cut out carry handle. May not as there may be enough room there.
I'll still build a portable index file type box to take out into the world for the discs. 1/4" ply pinned together will work. It's not going to carry 3/4 drive sockets!! Lolol!!!
    Great work!!
