These fellas were a huge influence on Arctic Monkeys. So much so that to open the first track, "Star Treatment," on their last album Alex Turner croons, "I just wanted to be one of The Strokes, now look at the mess you made me make." I appreciate The Strokes contribution to the Indie Rock revival and attribute some of its success to their first two albums.

One of my all time favorite bands and songwriters (Casablancas). So many great songs to look through. His other band, The Voidz, have made some impressive tracks like Human Sadness and Father Electricity. Great reaction!

You’re right, this song isn’t about the Mets. As you read, the band is from NYC. Julian Casablancas (singer) in particular actually grew up there and the Mets have always been his favorite sports team. As early as 2010 he was talking about how he always wanted to write a song for the Mets because the song they currently have, he was tired of. He actually wrote this song around 2015 after a Mets game where they lost. He was just waiting for the subway writing it down and it was more so about nostalgia and how it’s kind of a let down to revisit something from your past because it will never live up to the memory you made of it when you were a kid, which was kind of how he felt about the Mets. And actually the title was a working title that he intended on changing when they were recording the album in 2019, but Fab (drummer) convinced him to keep the name.

Ah, The Strokes - so many false dawns after their fantastic first 2 albums (Hard To Explain, The Modern Age, 12:51, Meet Me In The Bathroom). I did get this new album and was surprised by the maturity of the songs and the real development of Casablancas' voice. This is my favourite track from the album. Great reaction Greg.

"So many false dawns . . . ". Oh man, I'm using that line going forward. Also interesting how you apply it to this band. I need to check out their earlier stuff!

And here we are, the band that started the post punk revival craze, the strokes are hugely influential, first two albums are superb as well as the new abnormal.

This song is from their latest album, The New Abnormal (2020). It's produced by the great Rick Rubin and the album win 'best rock album' Grammy Award. I really loved thier first three, but then they turned kind of less rockish. Personally, the new songs are like a summary of their best things. Maybe you could give it a listen! 'Selfless' is a good one! Really like your reactions and aproach to music. Greetings Gregg, from Argentina!

I liked that even though I am not really a Strokes fan (or a Met's fan, for that matter). Very nice.

Sounds like a break up song where he doesn’t want to hurt his ex, but he wants to move on and not look back

You need to do some songs by killing joke.
Songs like the death and resurrection show, you'll never get to me, eighties, love like blood, the wait to name a few.
I think you would enjoy them, they started in the late 70's post punk scene in the UK and are still going but they haven't released a new albums for a long while, hope they do soon.

The band has described the title as meaning something you set your heart on which continually disappoints you. Definitely check out some other new songs by them like The Adults Are Talking and At The Door.

The Strokes have always been a bit hit and miss for me, they never quite lived up to their debut album, but i really like this song, it draws you right in! Thumbs up for me 👍🏻

Their sophomore albums is considered just as good as the debt. The next three were decent, and the most recent is up there with the first two.

Uh oh, I'm gonna get heat. I'm a LONG suffering Met fan. This song just made me feel even more suffering. I just don't connect with the Strokes, I feel they are "meh", not as exciting or interesting as others find them. IMO, this song dragged on like the end of a Mets season. Sorry, but it's just an opinion.

lol thats fine u dont like it, but i do hope u give them more chances they have new sounds every album so not one song defines them :D

Thats kinda what the song is about...
It was written in 2015 around the time when the Mets lost...
The song is not about praising the Mets, more so about how sad he is that his favorite sports team can't live up to the glory they had when he was kid.
Oh and their more fun/fast paced stuff is on their first 2 albums ("is this it" and "room on fire")
