Welcome to the SV family brother. Got mine back in 2017 (all black) and have had so much fun relearning. I also hadn’t ridden for near 30 years.. not suggesting you need to do this, just what I’ve done, new rear can. Braided brake lines and racing pads. Cassette replacement in the forks and rear suspension upgrade too. Also now run a 180 rear tyre. All of these changes have made a great bike better and can ride it faster. Didn’t rush to do any of this but all worth doing over time. Have fun brother. Peace from Wales. UK👍🙏
Thanks Andrew, I'm writing all of this down. Thank you for the information. I'll be modifying it as the months and years go by, I'm going to start with the exhaust and then work my way up. Maybe the brake pads as well. It sounds like you did some work on your bike, that's awesome! 😎 👍 Thank you so much for the suggestions
I’m an experienced rider and just bought a new one. Why did I buy one? 1. It’s a cheap and overly reliable bike. 2. Has plenty of power to do almost anything. 3. Maintenance cost is super low. I’m using it to commute with. I have about 110 mile a day round trip commute and it’s something that I totally don’t mind dumping miles onto.
Superb bike. I bought mine last year in August. Grey/red colorscheme. Was 6k Euros, new. Being a beginner too, I considered buying the bike i rode during my lessons, a MT07. Rode the MT07 like 20 or more hours during my practical lessons, was fine with it. But when afterwards i tried the SV650, man, I was in love. Such a swiss army knife for being a bike. Greetings from germany, excuse my derpy english
Hello Germany!!!! Ya I absolutely love this bike!!! I was so close to buying the MT-07 but I'm so glad I didn't. This bike is perfect. Good decision my friend!!!!
Bought mine in May as a re-entry option after a long hiatus from riding. Owned a VF500 and VFR750 previously. There are fast bikes and bikes you can ride fast. The SV650 is definitely in the latter category! It has decent horsepower and great torque, which translates to superior engine braking and roll on speed. This bike lives between 60-80 mph and instills a lot of confidence in the twisties as well. Added a Yosh Alpha pipe which I would highly recommend.
The sv650 Gladius was the second bike I ever rode. It really was a nice little bike and honestly as much as people dislike the looks it wasn't too bad for me. This body style looks pretty good as well.
Thx man, nice video. I got my bike license just two weeks ago and yesterday I bought the SV650 in black/red. I got the Suzuki because of the same reasons you mentioned and really looking forward to learn more about driving a motorcycle on it.
Thank you, you're going to love it! This bike is so smooth and easy to learn on. The transmission is awesome, and it has a lot of power on it so be careful. I wanted the black and red one too, I love that color scheme, but my dealer only had to all black, but great choice! Go out there and have some fun man and be safe! Let me know how the riding is going
The best bike in its category. Suzuki have the best reliability record; their bikes aren't laden with unnecessary technology. Good idea not to get a smaller bike. You won't get bored with this. Welcome to the motorcycling fraternity, bro. I'll be interested to see how you get on with this beauty.
Great review that. I've not long bought one and i love it. I agree with what you say about it being easy to service, one of the reasons i changed my previous bike due to it being fully faired and a bit awkward for a spark plug change. I'm a lot older than you and i'm at the age i wanted a bike that was easy to maintain but still be a lot of fun. My previous bike was a GSX1250FA and while i understand the SV650 is a good first big bike its also a good all rounder bike no matter your experience. My view on it anyway. PS, the Can (Muffler) ruins the bike, get an after market one you'll not regret it.
Have had my SV650 for 14 years. When you get out of beginner phase, update the suspension, brakes, tires, +2 rear sprocket, and go for another 10 years.
@@George-em2rt I would guess almost the same. 0-60 is so launch dependent it could be worse. The bigger sprocket adds more responsiveness and wheelie ability.
Hey I am in the same boat as you, been riding about 2 months now and I also got a 2020 SV650 from the dealership. The 2021's are about to drop so i ended up gettin it for 6499 which I was stoked about. Yeah I don't see myself gettin bored on it. I just did a ride today and I was a bit naughty since it was an open straight away with zero traffic but lets just say that it does not take much to get into 3 digit speeds and im 250lbs so its got plenty of power for a beginner. Love the bike, hope you keep enjoying it.
Alot of riders slate the SV 650 as a "girls" bike. I am now on my 3rd SV which I have owned for 2 days. This is a truly do it all motorcycle, they will do almost anything you put there way to a reasonable ability! I have owned many bikes from a Ducati 1098R,KTM 1290 SDR to Harleys. The SV produces around 70hp which in 95% of situations is more than enough. I have always been fortunate enough to be in a position to have a work bike and a garage queen but over recent times I barely get time to ride my 2nd bike due to family commitments. So I have decided to go back to an SV as my only do it all motorcycle. Yes there are others middleweight bikes like the MT-07,CB650R and so on but the SV is much cheaper and still performs to a very good level. Plus it's true essence of a motorcycle remains without all the daft rider aids that many come with. Granted the rider aids help and protect new riders from potentially bad decisions but they do get in the way when pushing on and you can't turn them all completely off.
I got a 2020 also. Love it. I’ve had many bikes but wanted one of these since I had my first bike (FZ6) and my friend bought the SV650. I like it more than my FZ-07 except for the low seat. For some reason mine didn’t come with the plastic plug over the steering stem nut and I can’t find one.
So I own the big brother to this bike VStrom 650. Same engine! This is a great bike comfy reliable. To the people who are saying it’s their first bike or beginner bike trust me this could be your forever bike. I have had several bikes and all of them were bigger cc’s and the 650 on this bike is the perfect match. The seat is great cause you have enough room to shift your butt around and your not stuck in one spot. I have been riding for 30 years and now the vstrom is getting a little heavy so I will be looking at the sv650 and the Kawasaki Vulcan 650s it has the same engine as the ninja 650 I did test ride it it’s pretty sweet.
That's awesome though, I was actually checking out the VStrom as well when I was looking at all the other bikes. It looks like a great adventure bike. Something to go on long trips and maybe even a little off-roading. I sat on the VStrom 1000 and it was a tall bike. I couldn't believe how tall it was. It's definitely a bike I'm going to be looking at in a couple years. Do you go on long rides with your bike? Have you ever gone on a couple day ride like a camping trip or something?
@@jeremychristner9682 Yes I have gone on long rides I live in Orange County NY which is about 60 miles north of NYC so we have plenty of good riding around here but it gets even better around lake George and the finger lakes region. I have done some light off road riding it was a lot of fun. On the highway the 650 is awesome. Just beware when you ride with side panniers you get wind pressure on them. The 1000 is a cool bike but you don’t need all that for off road. I will say these bikes are awesome and reliable.
After 30 yr bike hiatus, i jumped on a 07 1250 Bandit and it scared me a bit. Mostly to heavy rather than to powerful. So i eased back into on 2018 sv650x cafe style with mods. Rode it for a year and got my confidence\skills back and stepped up to a new GSX 1000Sz. Now also ride a BMW R1200R. The SV was a great bike and agree totally with your reasoning for purchase. Just watch the emergency stops the brake lever requires much pressure to stop fast. Better pads and brake line increase bite significantly. Ride safe.
Thanks @geeman I have heard that the breaks are just ok on this bike. I have nothing else to compare them too, but I think you are right. I will absolutely keep that in mind
@@jeremychristner9682 The brakes were upgraded in 2019 so will be very good on a 2020 model. When people comment on the brakes being weak it will be on a pre-2019 model as in the post above. Your brakes are more than powerful enough for the weight and power of the bike.
Awesome purchase. How are you feeling after three years? Satisfied? I'm about to get a 2005 sv 650 all black and I'm super looking forward to it (I actually prefer the look of the second gen over the latest🙈

Probably understanding the juice each bike gives... But I could burn my engine on this bike in second gear and have everyone left in the dust... so its not power... its probably the corners that really scare me
Just bought this bike today for 6k cash, it’s such a great bike. I’m in 37 degree weather riding home. For a Naked it’s really good under 65 mph, will definitely get a muffler and a windscreen.
Good real-world review. In the official pictures I thought it's more angular. But your walk-around shows that it's more curvy than I though. Great stylin'.
After 15 years without driving motorcycles I bought a 2007 Honda CB600F Hornet with 20000km for 4000 € and I don't regret it one bit. Before buying the Honda Hornet I was thinking about buying a Kawasaki Z650 but after testing both motorcycles I quickly concluded that the Hornet met my needs more than the Z650 even though I am a beginner driver because 15 years without riding a motorcycle is a long time and I felt that I had to learn everything from the beginning.
Thanx for your excellent video!!! I am myself a 50 years old total beginner and want hopefully to buy this beauty as my first bike 👌. My second choice is the Honda CB500x, different bike but also beginner friendly, what do you thing!? Very good video, excellent choice, this bike or Mt07 , both are best in their class, the weight is very very important, it make it easier to learn on the bike and it might save you from crashing. Get lots of parking practice, it is fun . Enjoy and drive safe.
I bought the 2009 sfv650 gladius as my first bike about 3 months ago. It’s a great and fun bike. I’ve already dropped it twice but it comes with learning how to ride. I’m doing much better on it and I feel a lot more comfortable and confident riding it. At first it felt like it had too much power but I was very careful with the throttle.
Bought this bike in March 2020. Very nice bike. A lot of power and very agile. I am getting 25km per liter. It is my 6th bike. Before I had Cagiva Canyon 500 and it was a mess.
I’m 18 and am looking into getting a bike. I’ll be taking a riders course pretty soon. I drive a stick and am familiar with manual transmission. Is this too much of a bike for me? I’m 5’9 150.
Hi Adam Shorter, thanks for the question. It sounds like your head is in the right place, that's good. Being really young as you are and not knowing if you have any motorcycle experience, I would keep doing lots of research while you're waiting to take your riders course. And then once you take the class, see how you feel and understand how comfortable you are on the bike. You'll learn a lot at that class and you should gain a lot of confidence too. The SV650 is a middle weight bike with a lot of power, it can be dangerous, but it's also a great beginner bike if your head is in the right place. If you're willing to take it slow in the beginning and practice a lot, than this is a perfect bike. It's a bike that's going to last you years and years to come. But if you're a hot head and just want to rip it down the street and look cool, than I would highly recommend not starting out on this bike. But if you are willing to be safe and practice a lot in the beginning, than this could be the perfect beginner bike for you. Stay in touch, let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this helps
Maybe look into a Kawasaki Z400 if you have no bike experience.. But if you do, the SV650 is a great first bike. It's my first bike ever, 2018.. I'm 5'11 + 220 pounds.. I think wet, the bike weighs 420 pounds.
his 3 reasons, a summary: 1. he got a good price for it for a couple hundred bucks under MSRP, he liked the dealer. 2. he wanted a naked bike. easy to work on with no fairings, weight was great, comfortable, looks great, seat's comfortable. 3. most important, he wanted a 650 class. "i wanted a bike that would last me years and years to come." "i wanted a middleweight bike that had a good amount of power but wasnt overkill (1000)". "it has a ton of power but not too much power."
No worries Ibra, I am 5 feet 11 inches. The seat height is perfect, I can put my feet flat on the ground. It's one of the reasons why I chose the sv650 over the Yamaha MT-07. That bike is a little taller
Im 5 foot 4 and i also got my 2020 sv650 just 2 months ago and its my first ever bike too. I can reach the ground but not flat foot it. But enough that im not nervous about it
I just picked up my 2020 SV 650. Rode it home from the dealer and the throttle seemed really touchy and the engine surges. Seat was awful. Hope everything gets better with break in but my first ride was a disappointment. Surprised because everyone raves about the bike.
You’ll get used to it. I started on an 09 sfv 650 gladius back in July of this year and as my first bike this felt very touchy, but now I’m completely used to it.
Throttle, you get used to it On my first ride I felt the same way. I am at around 500km now and it's great. Bad news on the seat, it still is shit and I think it will stay this way
Because it is a proven concept, has a shit ton of aftermarket support and is cheaper to run than the Aprillia Shiver 900? @1:01 Most likely Farenheit, otherwise you would have been almost perfectly cooked like a roast beef. :D
This isn't just a great beginner bike its a great motorbike..... Period

@@jeremychristner9682 I have blue rims. I am happy with the bike. Like you.
Just bought one few days ago, still waiting for registration so i can get it from the dealer. Nice video
Good decision. You won't regret it. Have fun with it, and stay safe.
You're going to love it!!!!
I won 2017 but there isn't much change to 2020 model except the price so i got mine around 5K which i guess it's amazing price
What part of Colorado? Which dealer? 🤔
It's a great bike! Enjoyed your video.
his 3 reasons, a summary:
1. he got a good price for it for a couple hundred bucks under MSRP, he liked the dealer.
2. he wanted a naked bike. easy to work on with no fairings, weight was great, comfortable, looks great, seat's comfortable.
3. most important, he wanted a 650 class. "i wanted a bike that would last me years and years to come." "i wanted a middleweight bike that had a good amount of power but wasnt overkill (1000)". "it has a ton of power but not too much power."
I want that exact bike and i want it all black also. But I can’t find out all black 🥺
Great sharing
Awesome I am considering one myself. How's the seat height? How tall are you if I can ask? Thanks man!
No worries Ibra, I am 5 feet 11 inches. The seat height is perfect, I can put my feet flat on the ground. It's one of the reasons why I chose the sv650 over the Yamaha MT-07. That bike is a little taller
I am 6'5 but it is still comfortable for me, except the seat, after a while it's just shitty
Im 5 foot 4 and i also got my 2020 sv650 just 2 months ago and its my first ever bike too. I can reach the ground but not flat foot it. But enough that im not nervous about it
My motorcicle 150cc honda and is my forever motor
I can beat it. I walked out the door with a brand new 2015 red FZ-07 for $6025 in 2016.
Hi heard the clutch has quite heavy pull? Is it true?
NOT true. Not even close.
I just picked up my 2020 SV 650. Rode it home from the dealer and the throttle seemed really touchy and the engine surges. Seat was awful. Hope everything gets better with break in but my first ride was a disappointment. Surprised because everyone raves about the bike.
Tom Quinn seat doesn’t get much better. Invest in a Holeshot Corbin seat... it’s worth it’s weight in gold.
You’ll get used to it. I started on an 09 sfv 650 gladius back in July of this year and as my first bike this felt very touchy, but now I’m completely used to it.
Throttle, you get used to it
On my first ride I felt the same way.
I am at around 500km now and it's great.
Bad news on the seat, it still is shit and I think it will stay this way
Great bike. Great video. I'd consider riding with gear on.
I love That bike 🤩🤩😍😍😍
That is a great choice, love mine... but that stock exhaust sound... check my video with the GPR slip-on exhaust, MASSIVE improvement :)
Yes I agree, the exhaust is ok. I am going to change it in a few months. I will definitely check your video out!

when modding, please add "you know" counter. just in case. :oPPPP
Had one for 2 months. Sold because of the horrible saddle.
Vs kawasaki z650?mt 07?
Because it is a proven concept, has a shit ton of aftermarket support and is cheaper to run than the Aprillia Shiver 900?
@1:01 Most likely Farenheit, otherwise you would have been almost perfectly cooked like a roast beef. :D
Nice
'you know'
Dud when you com to a stop and or traffic light take the bike out of gear you will save the clutch in the long run
It's a good idea to keep it in gear in case the car behind you isn't paying attention and you need to make a quick escape
@@alastairtheduke I agree.
No, keep it in gear bro. You need to be ready to go ASAP if need be. Plus, the clutch will be fine for a long time. It's worth using the clutch.
Beginner riding with short sleeves/lack of protective gear isn't very smart.
Too long intro and way to the point. But anyway nice video!
Bare arms? Sure hope you don't fall down; you won't have any skin left on your arms. You might want to pick up an armored mesh jacket.
Rookie without protections ??? Hey you !! Fool !!!
