Am I maybe a little biased because the F-4 Phantom is one of my favorite aircraft? Yes. Am I wrong though? I don't think so.

When that F-8E dodged that missile I was blown away at the amount of player skill required for that! I could never reach his war thunder potential and he is now my hero
Quick question: Did you get your PFP just online somewhere, or did you crop the Single cover for a song by Trip Lee called “You Got It”? I like that picture of the MiG-19 a lot, but I’m not sure where the origin is. Also, that was a very funny fan interaction, but dodging all the way up to 25g missiles is possible with the jets that have good flight performance as long as the pilot knows what they’re doing and times their movements well.

Another thing that gets overlooked about the F-4E is it’s combat flaps. They will never rip, in fact they will make the F-4E rip proof in most maneuvers. And the best thing about them is that they boost the F-4Es MER substantially at the cost of snap AOA turning ability. So when making normal 180 degree turn having the combat flaps out will result in very minimal speed loss in the F-4E.
Seeing the speed and altitude measurements, the crosshair, and everything else change 35 times in the video is too funny
There was only one a6e who i saw use chaff, the rest tries to flare my radar missiles🤦♂️

@@norske_ow3440 It is, and I just love the Phantoms, my first aircraft miniature model was an F-4E alongside a Mirage III, two aircraft that I admire very much to this day.
I felt called out at 5:53, you did us players dirty there. Masterful dodge from that F8E, must have been a super skilled player.
I find that nobody runs chaff currently because of rank 7 premiums, a lot of new players dont understand how to chaff properly.
That and PD makes chaff a lot harder to use, so a lot of the time people just dont run it in favour of getting more flares for IR missiles (which is especially usefull when 9L's and R24's are around)
@@perennialE so do I tbh, pre chaffing is very useful in a lot of fights even with PD

What does mean chaff please? I can't translate it into my language properly...
A lot of the issues with the F-4E's radar would be fix if they simply just properly added in it's sensors and the sensor fusion capability it had.
The TISEO system allowed a camera to lock onto a target and you could slave the radar to the TISEO and vice versa. You didn't need necessarily a lock as long as you could illuminate the target, and this us how a lot of F-4Es operated in ground clutter heavy environments in the 80's.
This makes it where there is actually a limited look down capability as long as the TISEO actually could see the target.
Gaijin has failed to actually add this, and when I mentioned and made a historical report about this to the Tech Mod. He wouldn't read past my first point.
Told me "CAA doesn't offer any Look down Capabilities" and linked me to a post where the guy he quoted stated "The computer system offered actually helped reduce the effects of ground clutter"
So in a post to prove me wrong, he linked me to a post as a source that basically said I was right. Biased tech mods at it again.
This plane really needs the AIM7F. It would give it much better medium range capabilities, not to mention it carried them irl.
It also carried aim9p-5 and aim9L
@@chukuma4760 Yep, albeit i think AIM9L is a rather canerous weapon, but i think that with the F4E since its already facing planes with counter measures, it will enjoy the extended range to work better as a long range interceptor better than the AIM9L in short dogfights.
i think there is a late variant of the f4e that was confirmed with aim 9L, aim 7F/M/P idk what aiim7 it will get

At 11.0 it will still see all the top tier at 12.0 in an uptier.
And Aim9E are not good missiles lol. 10g pull is god awful and if they are doing anything other than flying SLOWLY in a straight line, the 9E will miss every time. All they have to do is pull slightly and the missile is done, popping flares is just overkill for them.

@@perennialE I’ve got my Israeli F-16 fully kitted out with flare/chaff and all 6 9Ls and my F4-J(UK) premium would still slap it with Aim 9Gs and Sparrows all day.

Not really. CW seeker in more advanced radar missiles can ignore chaff and go after moving target as long as it remains illuminated by radar. For chaff to work properly, you'd need to chaff, so radar locks onto it and then get as far as possible from it from attacker perspective, to get out of illuminated area
not sure if you mentioned this in the video because im half asleep but if you keep the radar within 15 degrees of your target, even after chaff breaks radar lock the dogfight sparrows still guide in. just dont change lock

5:58 because I find myself brawling on deck most of the time in the Phantom FG1. 4th gen PD radars are dummy strong anyway so I'd rather hug the deck and notch when I need to rather than drop half of my flares when I'm getting IR missiles spammed at me. I do definitely bring chaff in the harrier though.
this channel is bad clickbait. He says the F-4E is still good showing an American F-4E but he plays an Israeli F-4E which has aim9G which, except up close, pull as much as aim9J and have twice the range, giving you the opportunity to kill people off spot range.
Secondly, there's a lot of times where i get my radar chaffed and the aim7 still hits the target.
I think they changed chaff recently because its a little better now. Still never run it without the ability to spit countermeasure choice and with how good ir missiles have been recently reinforced flares the only way to go in a hot plane.
I never bring chaff. I'm on the deck 100% of the time. Radar missiles can't track when you are taking monkeys out all day. It works very nicely and staying fast.

you make it look so easy, I just getting my pp slapped using the American f4e despite using the same tactics because my radar never locks
because he's using the Israeli F-4E that has AIM7F (long range) and aim9G (30g rear aspect aim9l since the addition of f16 instead of 16G when it was added and 18g when av8 went from 9.3 to 9.7)
Perennial E is the classic offshot of Spit Flyer that will tell you a plane is good when it's not and that a plane is bad when it's not. He says the F16ADF is bad while having no clue how to play it, and he says the F-4E is good while using a KURNASS (not the 2000) which has totally different armament while if you check his statistics, he is borderline 1:1 in every vehicle that is slightly off meta while having killed over 3000 bots. His stats on F-4E are far worse than on the Kurnass Early because the F-4E has melee weapons in a long range doppler meta.
What you said about armament is irrelevant, Wumbo was talking about the F4E radar being dogshit and never locking anything. Doesn't matter what missiles you have when you can't lock them onto anything to begin with. The US F4E and the Kurnass have the same radar.@@kingghidorah8106

In my experience the American F4Es radar takes forever to get a lock or the lock doesn't last. Is that normal?
or you can't get a lock in the first place in order to lose it lol. Radar never works for me on that plane but MiG 21 works just fine

I always practice my aim so if I get in a dogfight with a viggen I can always kill them in at least the first 2 turns

the reason people dont bring chaffs at toptier, is because there is a LOT of IR missiles and not so much flares overall (and personally for me, chaffs just do not work, idk why)
Thats because chaff is not very effective if at all against high tier pulse doppler radars

About the chaff thing I don't get it etheir as in all the other Flight games and sims you just have Chaf/Flares and might have the option of two separate buttons... Also the Phantom is low key my favoite plane to run in flight games and sims as it mesh's perfectly with my plot style no matter the context... Like I know itt so well after 2 dacades of flight games/sim that I just have a lower learning curve with it... Like even i Ace combat 7 I could not do as good in the ADF-Falken a super plane and ultimate dogfighter as I could in the Phantom F-4E even with it being Pre-order DLC because it's old old now... And in DCS the F4 mod is my favorite thing to fight in dispite I could use the F-22. So Yeah I can't waitt to use one in War thunder although the pitching up thing wth controller is anoying.

@@SLAYERxX420 oh it definitely does if used properly. If you pre-chaff, no way he is launching at you. If you go 90° to the missile and chaff, it also works. If you go cold and chaff, it works once more. You just need to use it properly, because it doesn't work the same way flares do.
Could this also apply to the British Phantoms or are they outclassed?

It's chaffable, if you notch as well. Dumping chaff does nothing against PD radar unless you go 90 degrees to it

The f4 is my favorite aircraft but no way in hell am I spading it, last time I tried i was forced into a dogfight with 2 m2000s and broke my mouse, I'd prefer to fly it in dcs where I won't get immediately pussed off

I don't know how he made it look any good in this video, at least where the radar is concerned. That radar will just never lock anything up in my experience, unlike the MiG 21 which I get plenty of radar kills with. Which is strange because I am pretty sure that on paper the MiG 21 radar is much worse.

The reason why F4E was ditched from service was not because it was bad or obsolete, but because it was too expensive to maintain.
