I’m trying to get my head around why you would buy this unit then the alpha 8 when for £200 more you could have 2 of these with the pre’s and the talk back/additional channel included. I'm presuming you could link 2 via the back like you would the Alpha? Is that right? I'm on Windows. Thanks for the great vid by the way.
The Alpha is meant as a line level expander for the 18, but the 18 doesn't do standalone or conversion-only like the alpha can. If it's more pres you need then the Pure Drive pre expanders can do that hooked up to the 18, Windows or Mac.
@@ProductionExpert Thanks for your answer. So I can't run 2 ssl 18 together using both devices to give me 18 pre's. in the 360 software via adat. Is that what you are saying? I basically have a Big Six and can't record more that 14 and I'm doing atmos drums so need at least 18 pre's.
I’m curious if the 4K legacy mode is an accurate sound, or simply a “close enough” useable sound.
Can the talkback pre also be routed into the DAW for recording?
Yes with or without LMC when assigned in 360 as the source for inputs 9-10.

That's right you can't run two 18's for that purpose according to the documentation.
@@ProductionExpert Thanks. I'll double check with SSL but that sounds right. Shame it would have opened lots of possiblities.
