    2:22 *You know what the real reason Bret had to stop wrestling? It wasn’t the Goldberg kick. It was the fact that he wrestled 9 more times in the next 3 weeks, including the NEXT NIGHT on nitro where he wrestled Goldberg again. If he had taken a few months off he would probably still be wrestling today.*

    • @camper32a
      @camper32a Рік тому +2

      Also, there was the figure four around the ringpost spot. When Bret fell backwards, he smacked his head on the floor. Surely it contributed to his concussion.

    • @nova2512
      @nova2512 Рік тому +2

      @@camper32a *Exactly. And since wrestlers smack themselves against those things all the time you figure these huge multi million dollar companies could get some kind of padding for things like that, like they eventually did for the floor. So Bret needs to get it through his head that Goldberg might have initiated it, but the true reason is because of Uber rich bosses who make their money off of the literal blood sweat and tears of their performers, not giving a shit about their performers. If they did they wouldn’t be independent contractors. Like I guarantee if given the choice VKM would choose to give himself another $250,000 instead of giving 5 of his lower level employees a million each*

    Having that match between Buff Bagwell and Booker T, which was a middling match at best, in Seattle wasn't going to work anyway. That match should have taken place the following week in Atlanta (aka WCW's backyard). We all know why the Invasion angle that followed it failed. Vince never had any intention of presenting any WCW wrestlers as credible threats to his WWE wrestlers. Every chance Vince had to bury a WCW guy, he did.

    • @Josh.C88

      Yeah that was such a disappointment. The way he did DDP was insane, he could have made a bunch of money from a DDP vs Rock storyline.

    I get that Bret would be annoyed but Goldberg has apologised about 6 trillion times and he's said he's not going to keep saying he's sorry. Bret has the right to be upset and it is a shame, but he brings it up almost every day. Time to just accept that accidents happen Bret, get over it.

  • @sadowolf
    @sadowolf Рік тому +15

    Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the proto-Claymore Drew hit on Ryback (as well as some of them he'd hit while in 3MB) was the superior Clamore haha. It actually looked like it made real contact and wasn't just Drew flying by them with a loud thigh slap haha.

    To be fair, regarding the final point on the list, Summerslam 1997 IS memorable for having one of the best scripted intros to the PPV itself and the big main event match that was preying upon the HBK/Bret heat.

  • @Rattwap
    @Rattwap Рік тому +13

    With Summerslam ‘18, would Becky becoming the man had happened like it did if Brooklyn didn’t reject the heel turn? The hat would have happened if it and Smackdown had taken place somewhere else where they didn’t fully back Becky as their chosen one?

    Reminds me that Vince (and I guess Triple H as well) hold it against wrestlers for getting injured (Finn in 2016, Ali in 2019) during huge pushes, which is ultra hypocritical. Ali's career never recovered, and Finn's only just has got back on track with The Judgment Day...

    The Screwjob! If everything went down “normally“, do we get the Mr. McMahon character? And the Corporation? Who becomes Austin’s antagonist in an era-defining feud that helped WWF turn the tide in its ratings battle against WCW?

    • @labbaby189
      @labbaby189 Рік тому +2

      The keyword is "unexpected". Bret leaving on those terms was gonna be an inevitable shitshow. All parties should get credit for turning that around, but SS '97 was never gonna have normal results.

      @@samukelisiwemudau3553 Sure it wasn't, you can still say an incident was someones fault. Owen made a mistake with his positioning, maybe he wasn't used to piledriving wrestlers as tall as Stone Cold, being more of a cruiserweight. It's unfair to 'blame him' like he did it on purpose, but he still did make a mistake.

    stone cold being dropped on his head, cut most likely 10-15 years off his career

    • @SaintPhoenixx
      @SaintPhoenixx Рік тому

      Similarly, HBK hurting his back and having 4 years off. Meant he could come back fit and have one of the greatest runs from the mid 2000s to his retirement. So many great matches, great feuds (Taker, Jericho etc) that would probably not had happened had he carried on. He'd have probably got worn down and retired earlier and/or gotten a worse injury.
      It was a shame at the time but looking back, it all worked out. He did quite well in his career, looking back.
