    Hey Thread Heads, I hope that you've had some time out on the water this spring in between storms. I love these little trico spinners for the spring. The spider webs a covered in them some mornings and the fly does a good job imitating the natural. Cheers

    Great to be seeing your videos again. You have a great teaching attitude. Thank you. I have only been tying for about two years. Became involved with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing and it has really made a difference. Their goal is to help disabled veterans using all aspects of fly fishing as therapy. At seventyone years old, I thought I couldn't enjoy life any more. I'm having more fun now than I've had in a Long time. Tying flies, building fly rods and going on fishing trips with other veterans. It's a good life once again. Thank you for your tutorials.

      Thanks for stopping in, Louis Aziz. PHW is a great organization and I've donated to both the Canadian and US chapters to help their cause. I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying life at 71, it's uplifting to hear it. Cheers and Keep a hook in your vise!

    Watching your videos give me the courage to try techniques that I have been avoiding because I do not know exactly how to do them. Big thumbs up!

    Chimo Darren, nice tie. Usually my storm door is covered with them in the morning but I haven't noticed any yet. Their spent wings are like little prisms. June bugs are out already. I did see one dark dun mayfly and the big caddis flies are out. Cheers... UPDATE : found 1 Trico last night on the back door. This morning the other door where I usually see them was plastered with them!
    So you're right on time with this tutorial :o) Cheers again

      Chimo, I'm sure more will be coming shortly. I'm sure this wet spring is putting a damper on the insects. I haven't seen a ton here yet, but those warmer days have seen an uptick in the midges. Good to hear the bugs are back. Cheers

    Nice one Darren! Been seeing lots of tricos around, will need a couple of these for the box. Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Hank

      Hank, indeed, I need to try and figure out a good set of trico lifecycle patterns for the L. Ontario tribs this year. It should be fun experimenting with a few ideas. Cheers

    Another cool tie. Tricos are tough to tie small. The ones I see are around a 26

    • @PiscatorFlies
      @PiscatorFlies  5 років тому +1

      Dave, yes 26 is quite a challenge. It might be cheating a little bit using the wider gape hooks, but they are still working. If you need to go smaller, I find tying bigger and working your way down to smaller sizes works well. Good luck!

    Great fly! Would you try a similar tie for any spinner? Or just a trico?

    • @PiscatorFlies
      @PiscatorFlies  5 років тому

      Scott, for sure, you could use this as a template, just switch out the colors and size appropriately. BWO or a rusty spinner would work great. Cheers

    This is totally off topic, but have you ever tied a "Cathy's Coat" for Pinks n Coho. It's an old fly but very effective on salmon. Also very tough to find a recipe for it.

    • @PiscatorFlies
      @PiscatorFlies  5 років тому +1

      Gary, I think I have a recipe for this one. It's a pink Lazer wrap body over silver tinsel with a white or hot pink polar bear wing and a red throat. Does that sound about right? I could add this one to my list of patterns to tie up for the channel. Cheers
