First vid since MIA relocation, aaaaand.... it's Oasis..... Going for great... Actually did note as you boarded the older windows on a 2010 built with sky-interior. Odd indeed, aside from the pannels.
Yes, that B737-800 Astrojet. Which AA livery is your favorite? My most favorites are the Astrojet (737-800), 1968 retro livery (737-800), and the U.S. Airways retro livery (Airbus A321). My least favorite is the 2013 retro livery. Airlines across North America should get the twin-aisle planes to completely maintain social distancing.
Great take off vision and engine "growl" !!! Thanks as always for a great and honest trip report which could be summed up as nothing to write open about. I look forward to your next adventure !!
This new cabin reminds me of the cabin on Alaska Airlines 737-900ER and MAX-9 aircraft. They have the same bins, and similar seats with the tablet holder. I personally think the biggest upgrade over American’s old cabin has to be the space bins, not to be confused with the similar looking standard sky interior bins notably seen on Delta’s ex-lion air -900ER fleet. I’ve experienced the space bins on Alaska’s MAX-9 (I don’t tend to prefer American) and they’re revolutionary. You’re asked to stand suitcases on their sides: much more luggage can be stored.
Nice, I've never been on an Oasis retrofit. I flew in and out of MIA a lot when I was actively hacking my frequent flyer miles with overnight round trip trips in South America using just 12.5K miles and being in an AA aircraft a lot. Oh well, the good old days... - Red
Nice trip report! I’ve been on a few american flights from Miami the last years. Two years ago I went from Miami to Quito with a 737 MAX. Sadly I didn’t make UA-cam videos back then :/
Flew a 773 from MIA back to LAX 2 weeks ago which is a 5+ hour flight. No snack bags. A drink service and that was it for Econ (did have hot coffee). And so packed AA tried to get people to switch flights 3 days before departure (middle seats filled).
I did flew on American Airlines before. I see all saw in the video, after landing in Newark, you should fly United Airlines new livery the Boeing 787 for the best experience.
Flew this product in february. Made a tripreport as well and I have to say I found it quite nice. When we boarded I was surprised by the cabin as it seemed quite new, but I didn’t know anything about these new Oasis interiors. The seats were decent as well. The only thing I would criticize is the lack of music albums in their IFE on-demand system. Still I believe that the screens in the other 737s and A321s did not work pretty well, they were quite slow which personally bothered me, so I think these new cabins are overall a nice product and not really sure I would call them a downgrade. Great video by the way! Loved the final approach into EWR!
I really enjoyed your thorough trip report and Oasis review. Totally agree on the half-ass cabin retrofit: Not replacing wall panels seems like a cheap upgrade. And thanks for calling the lavatory a lavatory (rather than a "bathroom," which it's not)! Look forward to your next video.
iTripReport, if you see this, I have a good suggestion for a SoFlo fight: How about taking an exclusive flight on American Airlines flight 1181 from MIA to EGE (Vail). It's a nice flight and i've been on it twice with plans to go again (it's an A319). It only flies in the winter so please try it out, because I would love to see a trip report going to Vail
Seeing that you want a Vail flight to be featured--my suggestion as well would be to document a Denver-Steamboat Springs run on SWA once the skiing season starts
The 737 Max actually at least supposedly has the same canon except with the Boeing Sky interior. This plane has a mix of sky interior overhead bins and old side walls. Also their ERJd have no WiFi.
I was on an Oasis 737 from ORD-PHX recently in seat 10A. With a backpack underneath the seat, the legroom was also super disappointing and tight for an MCE seat. I couldn't image what real economy was like...
The was an X on 22L which explains your 29 landing. My father would request a 29 landing when doable as he could roll all the way down and taxi right up to Terminal B where AA/ Eagle park and skip having to taxi around C.
Nice mask at 9:40 and good catch on that AA Boeing 737-800 Astrojet at 15:15.
I do believe the future is for people to use their own device. The airline provided screens often do not work and you cannot play your own content on them. When you take flights with them, most people are watching on their own device anyway or not using the seat back ones.
I myself won't fly ANY airline that isn't equipped with IFE. Spirit, American, Southwest, etc can bite it. I'll stick with JetBlue and Delta. Great vlogs as always!!
I regard AA as low class bus service - United isn’t far behind. The only reason I ever consider either one is based on a significantly lower fare than either southwest or delta. Possibly a more convenient time also . Price is paramount however to put up with inferior comfort and service.
That's basically the current Qantas domestic seat. No IFE will be the future for most airlines on domestic aircraft with the reduction in cost and weight
Being an infrequent flyer,I don't care what term AA uses to describe their coach cabin--as long as the seat is padded,it reclines and I have an inflight mag,I'm happy. I've only flown an AA -800 once,DEN-DFW,first row of coach with a real bulkhead, felt very cramped as there was no legroom and a plus-sized woman in the middle seat AND a drop-drown screen, displaying the long-since-cancelled NBC comedy,'Sean Saves The World'--I don't own a laptop, nor have a smartphone so streaming service isn't an issue--I am impressed though by something much simpler, the return of the 'American Way',I had assumed US carriers discontinued their inflight mags due to virus concerns.Judging from your 'snack bag' I'm guessing AA doesn't offer anything other than bottled water on domestic flights--if I want a soda or coffee, there are vendors at the airport only too happy to sell me one--good catch on that 'retro' livery at EWR!
US commercial aviation requires reinvention to reinvigorate its customers as the COVID pandemic passes. Norwegian Intl offered modern aircraft - the latest O/B technologies. O/B services expectations booked in advance offered a choice. Lounges design Scandinavian style airy/comfortable. Keenly looking forward to the return of Norwegian's style to the US sky's 2021.
Same.
I agree. Safety cards are plastic coated and can be wiped down frequently...magazines can not. I guess to AA advertiser revenue is more important than passenger safety.

Often done during the summer to help keep the cabin cooler. The F/A will ask passengers at the end of the flight to lower their shades. When passengers board for the next leg of course they can open it back up.
I do like the fact that the cabin looks newer but like you said the side panels could have been replaced and they could have added Boeing sky interior windows to match the rest of the interior i do not like the fact that AA had put hard seats in their aircraft. Delta refurbished hundreds of their aircraft I'm not meaning just the seats but they also completely refurbished the cabin itself on all of their a319/a320s and 757-200 aircraft and even though they added more seats they were still way more comfortable and legroom on DL in economy is decent compared to UA and AA. I don't see why American could do the same. But United has the worst cabins/seats compared to DL and AA and UA had the most outdated cabins in my opinion.
I probably shouldn't say this, but the Oasis retrofit was rushed and poorly executed. Several of the retrofits were taken to a chop shop to be quickly retrofitted at a cheaper cost than doing it inhouse. These aircraft were quickly taken out of service because of poor/dangerous work in terms of safety. Old wiring wasn't fully removed, overhead bins were zip-tied to the fuselage. And several other issues that weren't made public. Now that has been fixed, the retrofit process has slowed dramatically with the grounding of the MAX and the pandemic. From my first inspection, the seats are poor quality. Many of the recline mechanisms break fairly easily. If a larger person were to stretch into the seat, this would be more than enough to break the reclining feature from springing upright. SOME of the seatback pockets were made with coathanger wire covered in plastic leather. These seat pockets broke almost immediately. They were later replaced with a rope mesh seatback pocket version which is pictured in the video and is much more durable. The seat itself is a downgrade in cushioning and sturdiness but would be considered an upgrade from something like Spirit or Allegiant's hard-plastic, pre-reclined seat. They do have more features and amenities than the low cost and ultra low-cost competitors. The device holder is handy and perfect if you are traveling with a tablet, but it isn't designed well for an average smart phone. I've seen a lot of phones POP out of the device holder because there is no grippy surface for the device to hold on to. If you have a rubber phone cover, thats useful but the device holding mechanism is better suited for devices over 4 inches tall, which is much bigger than a cellphone tilted on its side. I did notice that the seat has a concave curve to it, that is intensely uncomfortable for a flight over 2 hours. The 30 inches of pitch is also extremely uncomfortable as well. The seat is wider and taller than it's predecessors, which combined with the larger overhead bins creates a VERY tight claustrophobic feel to the whole cabin. Beware of the last row and the row infront of the exit seats, these rows DO NOT recline, but the rows in front of them do, which means you will have a seatback in your face when the row in front of you reclines. Fine if you are a child or a small adult, but unnerving when you are an above-average adult. Imagine someone just about the throw an object at your face, now keep that same anticipatory feeling of being hit. That is how you feel sitting in these seats as if something is about to hit you in the face. Especially when using the device holder. You lose about 2 inches of pitch with the device holder and 2 inches of pitch with the seatback in front of you reclined. The lavatories were a problem from the first day, many wrote about the faucets being too powerful and the sink bowl too small to keep the water in the sink. The faucets have been tamed, but the sink still manages to only catch about 60% of the water, and you have to wash one hand at a time. The floors often get wet and dirty very quickly, just because of the lack of space somehow makes the lavatory surprisingly difficult to use. There is also something to say about the space outside of the lavatory. The time it takes to use the lavatory has increased because of the lack of space, so a line often forms outside of the lavatory, but there isn't a convenient place to stand and not be hit by the lavatory doors or being in the way of the passenger exiting the lavatory, and there is so little space in the aisle, you really can't avoid bumping into an aisle seat passenger. The old larger lavatories offered an extra 8 inches or so outside of the lavatory for people to maneuver around each other and pass by with minimal effort. The doors also folded inward which meant not having to worry about being smacked by a lavatory door. The lighting is a step down from the product offered on the MAX or the older sky interior aircraft. Even though the LED lights are equipped to provide ambient lighting and mood lighting, the control panels were never upgraded to facilitate the premium lighting features. The overhead bins do provide more room for luggage, which is a necessity when you add 12 seats to the cabin. The problem with the overhead bins is that they drop lower than the previous overhead bins, which closes you in, even more, when they are open. A little unnerving on it's own, but extremely claustrophobic when coupled with less space all around. The first-class seats are also a downgrade from both predecessors. The original seats are wide and sturdy, they offered a lot of cushion and space. The Oasis domestic first-class seat is lacking in cushion and space. They do have a project Kodiak which is slowly making its way back through the fleet to fix some of the issues their frequent passengers pointed out. Such as, less cushioning, a lack of space under the seat to stow your smaller carry-ons and they never installed device holders in the first-class seat backs. I expect this project to take at least another 3 years to complete. Note: I have been able to feel the newer "project Kodiak" seat on the 321-NEO. And there IS a much softer cushion on this seat and they have the device holders installed. It makes it a lot easier to watch shows on your device without having to have your tray table out.
to be honest, Oasis feels like a complete downgrade on international flights since after you leave the US the wifi stops working leaving you with nothing, so the IFE screens were a plus (and no comments on the seats after a few hours). On domestic flights I consider that it’s fine but the same service you’d get on another carriers maybe more cheaper, but overall the removal of the IFE’s will always feel like a downgrade for me!
The streaming movies still work when the internet is down. They are loaded onto the plane, so they will still stream with no offboard internet connection.
I don't like the new Oasis! I don't travel with a lap top and I don't like watching movies on my phone. I'm afraid that AA has just gotten cheap! Sorry, because I love AA!
I personally hate Oasis on American. I’m not sure how they came up with that name but it doesn’t resemble an Oasis at all. It’s just a way to sugarcoat cost cutting. A month ago when I flew AA, I couldn’t even get movies to play. Thank God it was only a two hr. flight! Thanks for the video Emil, keep em coming!❤️👍✈️
Me n the boys went to Imperial, California
sucks to see how AA would rather sell more seats than keep the passengers satisfied with decent legroom and an IFE screen.
Best review! Thank you!

Your point of high speed WiFi being the first fleet-wide install... I believe JetBlue was the first in the US to do that.
The 737 Max actually at least supposedly has the same canon except with the Boeing Sky interior. This plane has a mix of sky interior overhead bins and old side walls. Also their ERJd have no WiFi.
If you're going to do a flight review of Oasis, you should do the real experience that most passengers will have- regular economy- rather than MCE.
12:09 did that crew member just say “soonly?” I didn’t think that was a word.
I mean can we talk about the nice smooth rotation at takeoff.
I was on an Oasis 737 from ORD-PHX recently in seat 10A. With a backpack underneath the seat, the legroom was also super disappointing and tight for an MCE seat. I couldn't image what real economy was like...

like your video what is your favorite airlines. have you flown with a movie star on the same fight before
I actually like American Airlines I've been one of their planes years ago when I was a kid going to Puerto Rico I sure wish to fly by plane again
Next time, reserve American 787....it’ll make you more comfortable to join “Upper Middle Class Section” in cabin!!!!!
I do believe the future is for people to use their own device. The airline provided screens often do not work and you cannot play your own content on them. When you take flights with them, most people are watching on their own device anyway or not using the seat back ones.
Runway 29/11 at Newark is only used when either one of the main runways (22R/4L & 22L/4R) are closed
Wait, do ETOPS 738’s have this? I’m flying internationally to South America next summer and want to know
I myself won't fly ANY airline that isn't equipped with IFE. Spirit, American, Southwest, etc can bite it. I'll stick with JetBlue and Delta. Great vlogs as always!!

On the bright side of having no IFE:
You get your personal one on the 737’s! (American airlines’ 737 have overhead IFE screens)
Unfortunately only the older ones do, that also got removed on this retrofit 🤦♂️
What is the best American airline in your opinion
AA went down hill. They used to be so grand. USair killed them after merged.
Parabéns pelo vídeo... 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿❤️

Can you go on flydubai?
The wall panels bother me so much, don’t know why…
Astrojet Livery👍👍👍
Never flown Oasis before, looks mediocre. I’d miss the IFEs. What’s your opinions on Chromatica? ☺️
She should’ve added the original version for Babylon. Otherwise I’m loving the album 😂. Especially that Chromatica II to 911 transition
iTripReport 😍 yesssss! Maybe it’ll come out on one of her Chromatica radio shows soon lol The Target exclusive 1000 Doves piano demo is my fave!
Hold up... You mean to tell me American is still putting magazines at the seats? Does it come with a side of Rice-A-Rona? SMH.
I agree. Safety cards are plastic coated and can be wiped down frequently...magazines can not. I guess to AA advertiser revenue is more important than passenger safety.
That astrojet livery tho.looks epic🔥

Ahh yes the devil's spawn of cabin configurations, I will avoid this at all costs after my experience on it.
Yeah, leisure flying during a pandemic. Real nice. 🙄
I detest Oasis its a down grade and looks similar to Spirit Airlines. It feels like a long metro bus ride
