Tom Snyder, I wish you knew how very, very much I miss you. I never missed a show. You were the best there ever was. So honest. So unique. And like an old friend in my living room every night. God Bless your sweet soul.

I love that Ferguson who has carried on with the Late Late show so well placed the picture of Tom on the mantle on his new set, honoring the original host of the show. A long time fan of Tom's for his humor and how real he was on the air and that great laugh that would burst out of him. It turned out my best friend had been on with Tom on the old Tomorrow show as a sample of the unknown singer songwriters of the day. Tom was very gracious towards Danny and Danny never forgot it. Thanks Tom.

      @fomomoto3:
Snyder made it a point to befriend and encourage younger people in the industry. Ferguson acknowledged him many times. As did curmudgeon Letterman. Watch the vids where they guest on each other's shows for a display of mutual admiration that was rare for Dave. His company produced Tom's last major program, 'The Late Late Show'.

I watched Tom for many years. I remember being REALLY upset when I tuned in one night and someone else was in his time slot...David Letterman. I can remember hot summer nights during school vacation, when I'd stay up to 2:35, just to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Tomorrow Show. I hope Tom is relaxing somewhere with an eternally full pitcher of colortinis, chatting with the exceptional people he encounters in the great beyond. Night, Tom. Rest in peace.

25 years ago this past January 9th, The Late Late Show went on the air on CBS. And before Kilborn, Ferguson, and now Corden; there's was the legendary Tom Snyder. Nobody does great interviews than the late, great Tom Snyder. They're never be another broadcaster and interviewer than one and only TS. If you want to see great interviews done right... go to UA-cam and type Tom Snyder (Tomorrow), (CNBC) and/or (Late Late Show). RIP Tom and Godspeed. and Happy 25th Anniversary to The Late Late Show. Because without Snyder, we wouldn't had Kilborn, Ferguson and Corden.

I was lucky enough to live in Philadelphia, so I had the chance to see Tom near his begining as a news anchor in the late 60's. As time went on, he only got better. His conversational style in an interview is amazing. So far, no one has been able to copy his ability to bring a guest into our livingroom.

Sylvester "Pat" Weaver (Sigourney's father) created the "TODAY" show, the "TONIGHT" show, and, in the early '70's, the "TOMORROW" show, which put this man on the map.
In the '70's and '80's, he was the perfect follow-up to Carson:
Carson was The Party, Snyder was the After-Party.
The genius of Snyder and his staff was that they realized that anyone that was up that late was kinda "fringe-y," and would be open to a lot of strange stuff, or in-depth stuff, or both.
After Letterman replaced him on NBC in the after-Carson slot, he went to radio for some years, then went to one of the cable news channels in the early evening for few years...
...and then, after Letterman left NBC, having been passed over by that network to succeed Carson upon his retirement, he (interestingly, ironically, and generously) picked Snyder to follow him on CBS.
Snyder did, genuinely, what Brian Lamb on C-SPAN does by design:
Neither one assumes that the Viewer knows everything, or even anything, about the topic of discussion, and thus asks the question you would ask, if you were there.
In Snyder's case, if it was a topic about which I knew something, his ignorance would make me want to scream; if it was a topic about which I had little or no knowledge, his questions would make me feel profoundly grateful.
(Kudos to Craig Ferguson for recognizing his predecessor.)

Tom Snyder was the last of the conversationalists. You don't see that anymore. Jack Paar, Dick Cavett and Tom Snyder were it. I miss "The Tomorrow Show" and hate NBC for what they did to Snyder.

Jake Drew You picked my 3 favorites. They were all great at presenting intelligent talk shows. Yet, they were all different & did things in their own unique way. You might want to check out the new documentary "Best of Enemies" about the Buckley - Vidal debates. It's another reminder of when TV had a respect for it's audience.

Theo Lamp You know - "Best of Enemies" is playing in Minneapolis this week. I'll go check it out. I wish that you could see more of these shows by these guys. The tragedy is nothing really survives of Paar's "Tonight Show". I'm sure Snyder and Cavett were saved.

I think Charlie Rose deserves a fair shake, as does this presenter Craig Ferguson, albeit Craig had a much looser and comedic style. Take his interviews with Archbishop Desmund Tutu and Stephen Fry for instance. Craig did the show once interviewing Fry with no audience to the style of Snyder one night as a tribute of sorts to Tom and pulled it off.

Love watching the clips of him on UA-cam, thankfully available on here. What an incredible interviewer. Very colloquial, very knowledgeable, and so easy going with an amazing sense of humour. And everyone seemed to just love him. So many repeat guests which is always a sign of a very good interviewer.

Back in 1965 when the FCC forced the ownership of KYW-TV to be returned to Philadelphia from Cleveland, Tom Snyder (and Mike Douglas) came along for the ride. He did the evening news and hosted a morning show called "Contact" that set the style for his later work. While he was ours for only five years, it was wonderful to watch as the whole country got to know his unique style. Thank you Tom.

I'm saddened that i did not know of Tom Snyder when he was around, as i was too young. I recently discovered Craig Ferguson, and was looking into the history of the show, and i've fallen for Tom Snyder's style of presenting. Not to say i don't like Craig, but i think i prefer Tom's more natural style of presenting a talk show. Luckily there are some examples of Tom's Late Late Show and Tomorrow Show episodes on UA-cam, but not nearly enough. I don't think there will ever be another like Tom.

Really well said, not to mention Tom Snyder’s magnificent voice. I think all the late late show hosts were decent in their own ways but Snyder’s strength was his genuine communication skills. Snyder’s shows aged like fine wine. It’s comparable to a fireside chat with a good friend.

Kiss did a great interview with Tom in 1979 where Gene Simmons got showed up by a drunk Ace Frehley, and Tom found himelf laughing hystericaly with Ace making jokes about the KISS show and about Gene acting like " the " Mother Superior". Tom was Unique and the best al at once.

People forget how really good Tom Snyder was. Tom Snyder was the one who started the whole late, late show format (12:30 am time slot) going back to his NBC years. If it wasn't for Tom Snyder, there wouldn't be a David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers for NBC. In the CBS era, there wouldn't be a Craig Kilborn, Craig Ferguson, and now James Corden. You can Tom Snyder deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Johnny Carson and David Letterman. In terms of the 12:30:am time slot, the best hosts were (in this order) Snyder, Letterman, O'Brien, and Ferguson

I remember the interview that Snyder did with Charles Manson, and it was hilarious. As I remember it Manson wasn't shackled and he was doing his normal unhinged bit in an attempt to intimidate Snyder, it didn't work. Snyder continued to puff on his cigarette and didn't flinch once. Contrast that with Geraldo Rivera. In that interview Manson was shackled but I remember Rivera looking very nervous and flinching several times. I gained new respect for Snyder when I saw that he couldn't be intimidated.

Cool, but Tom Snyder passed away on the 29th of July in 2007.

I think his show would have done better with a wider lense that was used in the 70s.
But the timing of the show was wrong in the 90s. With Dave being Whackey Still, Leno also whackey (copying Dave by the way). Conan as well who was doing innovative stuff. As a teen, seeing Snyder at this time was just "furghettaboutit".

The added laugh track was completely unnecessary and annoying.

Actually, that's the audience from Ferguson's. Snyder's show that day have no studio audience

But honestly, TS was not a great tv personality. He come across as self-absorbed and also I think he couldnt take
a joke at his own expense. Which in my book are not features of a great tv-host. And yes, I compare with Conan, Letterman, Carson and also Colbert, Kimmel and others. Carson being the best, needless to say. I dont mention Fallon and Leno, because they are just annoying personalities. (Leno is/was a great standup, but a horrible late night host. And Fallon did well just in SNL).
