- Pat Cooper's controversial appearance on the Tom Snyder - "Tomorrow - Coast To Coast" Show March 6, 1981. "How Dare They...."
Many people thought his comments on the show would ruin his career. They just made him more in demand as a performer, showed that he had dignity and would not let it be compromised and added additional success to his already successful career in show business, elevating him to the level of such titles as, Legendary Comic Icon, Comedic Genius, and to quote Jerry Lewis, (from the foreword of Pat's Bio, "How Dare You Say How Dare Me"), "A True Master of Comedy".
always loved all of tom snyder's shows including radio. I can't believe i missed this one. i'm here from Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast where Pat Cooper was the guest.
What a fantastic combo of talent and humor. I can't believe i'm blessed enough to see these so many years later
Thank you Pat Cooper for having the balls to say what nobody else ever would!
This man is very bold, classy, and humble . You'll never ever see another Pat Cooper in this day and age. He never forgot who he was. I love you Pat!
So so SO TRUE !!!

"classy"?
I still can’t believe he’s gone. Tears filled my eyes when I read the news. He gave my family hours, and years, worth of laughter. Thank you Pasquale ❤️
He was blessed with long life. Rip. He could make Patrice laugh like few could.
Pat was RIGHT!....He had a Right to earn & make a living Too!
Can we just agree the tommrow show was awesome cause it was actual interviews with push back. We lost a national treasure when tom snyder passed away
Agreed, but this particular late format of Tomorrow, as "Coast to Coast," was an abysmal shadow of what the 70s show was. From my perspective, NBC structured this version of the show as a hit job on Tom Snyder by demanding that he work a format he was famous for publicly disdaining: the studio audience. Why else would they specifically alter the show to a format that the host continually identified as not being one of his broadcasting strengths? It was a completely unnecessary additive to the show, dreamed up by big-brained, 200 IQ NBC executives...bunch of talentless gits operating under the guise of "innovating" upon the show. Maybe Cooper's enthusiam got to me a bit here :-)
Yes, Mr Snyder was a "One of A Kind" also. His brutally honest & direct style of interviews is Needed AGAIN, desperately, on late night Television. He was REAL. Larry King Live was a similar PRO also. This "format" & honesty & Integrity & REAL character......will once again be seen by the American Public on Television.....soon. Mark my words.
This is the single greatest clip of all time. I have been searching for this for the last 30+ years. Thank you, Steve Garrin. Bless you.
It's a CLASSIC moment of "get down and spill it all out." Pat didn't hold back on what he really saw and felt.
I’ve watched this many times and it always pumps me up. Pat Cooper one of the greatest stand ups of all time and a real genuine self made man and unique talent and personality. He blew the roof off the Tomorrow show that night and never missed a beat!
This is such a great interview. Tom Snyder did a great job, he was engaging and wasn't afraid to ask uncomfortable questions. And Pat Cooper was his usual fearless uncompromising self. Great stuff.
Wow, this guy is on point. You would NEVER see this kind of discourse on any talk show today. R.I.P.
Had the pleasure of meeting him. A true gentleman. RIP 🙏
Tom Snyder is concerned Pat is getting too upset for his health. 2013, Tom's dead 20 years and Pat is still "upset".
Paul Ruoso well just don't call it energy, Pat don't like that. He has a good point here witch if you translate it to today they would shut their mouth. And that's that.
not to be picky but Tom died in 2007, 12 yrs ago from 2019
2020 and Pat is still going
Being hateful will keep your alive. Hate keeps that old heart beating.
2021 he’s still here
This is the moment Pat himself credits as his turning point.
jrreogreugerugregreger he's a legend
I think Patrice asked the question. So good.
Loved, loved, loved it. Cried my eyes out, I am now 80 years and you brought back my life in Bensonhurst. Did you forget the small bar of chocolate called " hooten" Met my husband at the Oriental I was 15 he was 19 married 60 years! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Joan
He'd be in jail today ma'am...
Holy cow ! Naming names and kicking 🎉
The pride of Court street Brooklyn! We love you Pat!!!!
This is the ballsiest shit I’ve ever seen
There will never be another Tom Snyder. I miss him
Can't imagine why he isn't more famous. He's got bawls the size of planets.
Because he's overbearing and impossible to work with. He doesn't respect rules, and did something very out of line on "Analyze This". In a scene with Deniro, he saw that the Bartender had no lines, and knew that with a line, he could enter the union. He tells the kid to ask, Deniro, "Do you want a drink?' . You can't "Direct" a film that you are working on. He's on a top film, with a top name, and doing a great job, yet he manages to sabotage the whole thing. He has done this same bullshit with Sinatra, Jackie Mason, Dean Martin, and all of the other top names. He should maybe consider that if the identical thing happens over and over, maybe it's not "Them", Pat.
@@Valkonnen Who cares. He had a bartender say a line. No, Pat was right. These people are elitist egomaniacal freaks. They take everything for granted. And they suck. The income disparity has only worsened since this Tom Snyder episode. All those names you mentioned have more money than they could ever spend, and they give about 10% in everything they do, like they're being bothered to work.
@@Louie_The_Dago What are you talking about? The guy was an ACTOR , PLAYING a bartender in a major motion picture by a DIRECTOR. To want to overstep the lines of a film is THE most ridiculous idea anyone could have. Are you really that stupid? So who are the " elitist egomaniacal freaks"? The Director, who doesn't want some imbecile directing his film? You have got to be kidding!
@@Valkonnen Omg! How dare he put planet earth in danger!
Wow, you are a bootlicker. Now defend Harvey Weinstein because those women were stepping out of line and interfering with other film projects
@@Louie_The_Dago Look, you're obviously a dumb person who doesn't get that you don't add q fucking line in a film and go over the DIRECTORS head! What the hell do YOU think a Director does with millions on the line every single day. People like you are so painfully stupid and defensive that you can't figure out that all authority isn't wrong. Go in to your boss tomorrow and throw some motor oil on this shirt! Who is he, right? I refuse to believe that a person can be as thick headed as you are pretending to be. I've worked in films for over three decades, but even laymen know, the Director's the boss. period. It's not some weird concept that underhandedly adding a line to a major motion picture might be a stupid fucking thing to do. And not throwing someone right off the set, with such money riding on a film like this, took restraint.
Me and my dad met him at the Las Vegas airport on a flight to NY. This man was gracious and funny as hell. Luv ya pat
Pat Cooper, the original bridge burner.
Pat Cooper still going at 91 years of age. I guess the doctors who told John Lydon(Johnny Rotten) that anger is an energy and can be used positively were on to something.
One of my favourite guests on the Howard Stern Show and definitely responsible for some of the most memorable moments. "I am a genius of myself, not of you"
Dig-ni-ty
Two sorely missed legends: Tom Snyder and Pat Cooper. ❤
Pat Cooper is 91 years old in 2021.
As Patrice Oneal said, you have to root for anyone who stands up against the beast system
Pasquali Caputo! I saw him as a kid in the Catskill Mountains at one of the Villas and he cracked up my father so much that even though I didn't get Pat's jokes, my dad loved him, so I did too!
Most people this agitated die of heart attacks. Pat’s anger was like a nuclear reactor that fueled him and kept him alive until 93.
Damn! Just found out that Mr. Cooper died four days ago, after having watched this video a few seconds ago. Guess it showed up in my recommended videos because he passed away.
You want to hear one of the bravest and most articulate things ever said about "showbiz"? Take a look here at the great Pat Cooper, back in '81 with Tom Snyder (it starts here at the height of Pat's discussion that night - remarkable man)...
SQ1PUBCLIPS He served in WWII, and that is rarely mentioned in his interviews.
@@franklamagna3889 yeah, a ww2 veteran ain't gonna take shit.
@@darklord220 damn straight. Aint gonna take shit from the kids he disowned, either! What a real humanitarian
@@franklamagna3889He was discharged for causing disturbances. In other words, the service didn't want him.
Pat was 100 percent right!
Gotta LOVE Pat Cooper.
This ANGRY S.O.B. is STILL livin’, while many of his contemporaries are six feet under (including the interviewer! 😳)
So, the next time some jamoke tells ya’ to “take it easy” when ya blowin off some steam, just tell ‘em, “Pat Cooper says fuck you!” 🧐
Nuff said. 😎
Damn, in a few short days Pat Cooper has won my full respect. Dude is one of a kind
Rest in peace Pat Cooper, June 6, 2023. It is a shame you walked away from your mother, two children and grandchildren.
"I am the genius, of myself." -Pat Cooper
And Pat took that 2nd hand smoke like a champ
To the poster who wrote "RIP Pat Cooper"....As of 5/19/14 Pat Cooper is alive and presumably well and still active in show business.
He is alive I had dinner with him tonight.....
@@NoOne-kr4jc Copied from Wikipedia Pat Cooper page "Years active 1953-present"
until 2 days ago ☹
Pat Cooper is an Absolute Legend and the man had The Brass Stones to tell Howard Stern how much of a SELL-OUT that Howard had become !
"... I wanna see Lola Falana's kinescope! She ain't got one!"
Love Pat! My first intro to him was on Bob Costas in 1992- Amazing show! Thanks for this upload!
Man of principal, bite his nose to spite his face. Love you Pat. Fuckem all. Just listened to him on Gilbert G podcast, must listen if your a fan.
I watch this show when it originally aired I fell in love with Pat Cooper. Right or wrong a speaking his truth
You can’t get much more real than this.
I loved his stand-up comedy, but, wow! He's even better as himself!
This man blames everyone for his problems, accept Pat Cooper! He’s delusional! I don’t blame these headliners for not wanting Cooper on the bill as the opening comic. He’s talked bad about everyone he’s ever worked with! He has a very thin skin and gets insulted very easily. But he causes 99% of his problems. These entertainers and booking agents don’t want nothing to do with this nut. They don’t need all his aggravation. He’s an opening act that should be lucky to have a job like that. Tony Bennett, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Wayne Newton, Tom Jones, none of these people want him as a warm-up act. I love how he keeps mentioning, his dignity! What about everybody else’s dignity! His own family don’t want nothing to do with him. The man is toxic. And all this negativity he keeps sprouting off, is a turn-off and quite frankly, shows him to be a bitter, old, washed-up has-been! It’s over Pat!
Don't mess with my DIG-NA-TEE!
"It's the Italian in me!"
Right on! :D
Wow!!! Pat Cooper for the win!!
This is legendary
Pat Cooper RIP
Watch this video and do a shot whenever you hear the phrase "not bringing in the business" or "they wanna dictate policy".
Pat Thanks you!
Pat tells the truth. People don't want the truth!
"You CAN'T handle the truth!" Lol
Pat Cooper's pic at 1:35 looks like Leno with glasses.
Paul
Pat is happy to share his great moments with his loyal fans.
Thanks!
Steve
always loved Pat, my respect meter just went through the roof on this!! i never knew about this. The just don't make 'em like this anymore.
i love pat
Your not fuckin with my DiGniTy!!! PASQUALE RULES!
Excellent interview. Classic.
Pat is a genius..and a funny man.. he knows what he's doing .
I don't remember who said it,
but it was someone who was a celebrity and they said...
there are A lot of talented people out there who aren't celebrities
but being at the right place at the right time got them their break.
Pat went off the deep end when he dissed Reddy.
This Pat Cooper rant inspired Eddie Murphy's "I'm Gumby, Dammit!" character.
Opie and Pat show with Jimmy or Pat joins Anthony in Live from the Compound. Comedy gold.
Pat is a CLASSIC. The same, honest man. Simple.
The following week, SNL did a skit simply titled "Bitter People" in which Joe Piscopo imitated Pat Cooper being interviewed by Mary Gross, and much of his dialog was simply taken verbatim from this appearance. Frankly, I think it's pretty easy to see just from this why Pat Cooper is so widely disliked in show business. His wikipedia page says he is estranged from all his bio and adopted children and grandchildren. Gee, Tony Orland, Tony Bennett, Steve and Edie, why do you think these people didn't want to tell him to his face why they didn't want him in their Vegas shows? Does he SEEM like a guy who would take it gracefully and leave quietly? And as a comedian, he genuinely wasn't ever that funny.
I was trying to remember who Eddie Murphy based Gumby on.
Pat should have been on Sopranos.
An INSTITUTION that's pretty much Gonzo from the Entertainment World. Thank you for posting this interview
Tom Snyder's eyebrows are coming alive!
And his sideburns....
I'm gonna open up for Lola Folana, Tony Bennet, Tom Jones. And I'm some Harry Nobody? You start to fade, you gonna need David Brenner or Flip Wilson to bring in da crowds. You think I'm gonna tank, let's split the door. I'll take a cut a da' door.
Saw him December 1990; he blew me and my friends away!
Mr. Cooper is on point
Pat was 100% right. There are no big stars in Vegas except for what I call "destination stars" like Elton John. As far as Dionne Warwick goes, her own niece, Whitney Houston, said "Dionne is for Dionne." Whitney would turn over in her grave if she knew that Aunt Dionne took center stage at her funeral.
My dignity....
pat cooper broke my ribs
Pat bravo dignity it transcends cruelty and shames ego. Modest and brave forever maiestro!
That was awesome…so true today Pat
Brooklyn attitude....my kinda guy!!
Crazy how Pat Cooper and Toni Bennet died almost a month apart in 2023 and were born within three years of each other (Pat 1929 ,Toni 1926)
It's comical hearing Pat Cooper criticize other acts for being on an "ego trip". TOTKO.
hardcore EGOTISTS are always 99 kinds of hell to have to work with. ask anyone who'd done done it.
What a man
Pat turned 52 the year this aired, as of Oct 16, 2022, he's still kicking. As for his relationships with his biological kids, adopted kids, etc only Pat knows the truth.
He is a genius of himself.
Pat Cooper is the real deal motherfucking holyfield
this is where De Niro got his inspiration from
gettheleadoutasshole pat Cooper preformed at Gottis daughter's wedding he hung out with real gangsters
Truth!! Tell me Pat!!
Very, very funny man. R.I P., Pat Cooper.
Wow,and Snyder is actually smoking on nat'l TV and blowing it in his face..Pat is throwing big names under the bus 32 yrs ago, unbelievable.
Now i see why Patrice loved this man. RIP Patrice O’Neal
Pat served in WWII, and that is rarely mentioned in his interviews. Thank you, Pat!
As what, a drummer boy. He was 12 years old when the US entered WWII.
Yeah! And, plus, Pat had only 4-5 months, total service with the Army, and he never left the States. He details it all in his book, "How Dare You Say How Dare Me!"
@10:47 Snyder just blows the smoke in his face....lol.
Pat is Great, loved Pat on Stern.
"WHO TOL'YOU DAT!!?" MY DIG-NA-TEE!!!
To quote Franky: "I did it my way"... Pat plays by Pat's rules and ftw!!
People fade their fame fades and a new generation of comics and entertainers come in. It happens in every generation. People like pat watch old VHS reruns when He was on top. He relives the moments while the rest of the world moves on...That's how fame works. You have to move on too
you tell em pat !!!!! i love it.
Fun historical comedic history.
Peace on earth.
Can you find the interview with Jerry Lewis and Tom Snyder.
Legend.
Wow, Pat Cooper encounters egotists in show business and is flabbergasted? I remember this appearance. At the time, most people thought he was nuts. Shortly after this appearance they did a skit on SNL called "Bitter People" Mary Gross played the host of a TV show called Bitter People and Joe Piscopo played her guest, Pat Cooper, simply repeating most of what the real PC said here.
"What happens? I dont get the job. I get canceled" pat
