Woman Adopts Grandparents' Grumpy Cat | The Dodo Cat Crazy

- After Angela's grandparents passed away, her family searched for the best home for the cat they had for 15 years. Angela just knew she had to take Mackenzie in, even though Mackenzie was feisty and grumpy all the time. She showered her with love, and one day, decided to start taking her out for adventures to see if Mackenzie would react a certain way. Now, that's how the two bond ❤️

She's been trying to tell everyone for 15 years that she just wanted to go outside 🤣
Indoor cats always want to go outside, but seldom want to stay there.
Imagine that? A cat just wanting to do cat things? People who don't let their cats outside piss me off. 😤
@@jaymac7203 can you blame the grandparents though? From how Angela explained it, it sounded like they were already too sick to go outside themselves.
@@kytrensol9777 Yeah, not everyone has the time to take their cats outside and unsupervised outdoor cats are something I can't get behind ethically since they have caused the extinctions of many native species across the world. The best compromise I guess is having them wear a bell since hunting is then made a lot more difficult but they are still at danger from cars then and no one wants that. You can play indoors with your cats if you can't take them out, and building little fenced-in window seats and indoor play walls is a great idea and a great way to keep your cats stimulated and having fun.
@@asterismos5451 the way I see it for Angela's grandparents...
They used to take Mackenzie outside almost all the time, but as their health declined they couldn't travel much so Mackenzie had to stay at home instead. The cat didn't like that unfortunately and that's why she became grumpy until Angela adopted her and started taking her outside.
I'm glad she's living her golden years with someone who was already family.
Angela,,,,you are responsible for making Mackenzie's golden years shine. This is the kindest thing you could possibly do for your grandparents. Bless you!
Good point 👏
Thank you for that comment💗
Bethany Smith. My biological mother had a mental chemical imbalance and gave me up when I was 2. Then my maternal Grandparents took me and gave me a wonderful home until I was 9, when they lost their Church..he was a sweet pastor.
They were already seniors, and their daughter, my Aunt and Uncle adopted me.
It hurt so losing each home. I thought there was something wrong with me (that's how kids think.)
But time has shown me that I was always loved, and the most perceptive friends who knew about my childhood, would say, it's good you stayed in the same family.
Your comment was healing about grumpy cat.

I can’t believe that no one has brought that up apart from you it seems, she looks amazing for her age, she must’ve been very loved!
Fifteen! Some older cats fur lose their shine overtime 😯 MacKenzie still looks just as young and fluffy! Such a beautiful kitty.
My mom had a cat that lived 23 years and could still jump up on the highest counters and the refrigerator until about the last 6 months she was alive. That cat was like 7 or 8 before I was even born and already had her own son lol.

She does it when you come close and she hits
I think you may be right be she also does seem kinda grumpy or just upset with the way she breathes and moves her tail imo
exactly My cat does similar things too ㅋㅋ
Can we talk about the cutest outdoor gear this cat is sporting? 💁🏽♀️💕
That pink coat was SUPER CUTE
I like the raincoat.
Just a fashionista, with the best taste in current outerwear
I was thinking the same thing .. I have 3 big cats. 2 girls and a boy. 7 human years old. Now I am going to search for that beautiful outdoor harness. I love it ...

Angela: "Why do you have an onion?"
Mackenzie: *That's not important information, what is important, is that it's mine and you shall not have it.*
That onion is what is known as "a communication orb". They are used by cats to telepathically communicate with other cats around the world. Science has not yet discovered what all of the cats are saying to each other across all four corners of the earth. Some theorize that they have been conspiring to take control of the world.

Unless you want to hear the collective yowling of many cats in your head never eat the onion! I made that mistake now I am a form of the cat internet. It is a completely useless set of knowledge but I now know where all the catnip is. It's like Neo from "The Matrix" but instead of Kung-fu I know Salmon Pate please don't ask me to show you. It gets extremely messy and as soon as I start all I can hear is millions of cats purring in my head. Pure unadulterated lovely madness.

I LOVE that you didn't give up. Too many people would have lost patients and given up on a pet that stayed grouchy for so long before coming around. But many animals create extraordinary bonds with their people and animals can shut down from grief just like us. So sad too as they just need time, compassion and a bit of love. I feel that because she would have known this cat for years beforehand, she was able to know that Mackenzie's moaning wasn't a sign that she didn't love or was a hostile cat. Most people would see this grumbling, growly cat and pass her by.
Lucky kitty, lucky owner.
Yes! It reminds me of the cat that had an almond as a best friend! What they do doesn’t always mean what you might think, you just have to get to know the cat a bit and you’ll learn their true personality and why they do the quirky things they do! 🥰
This old kitty looks so good and healthy, you can see he's living the good life with grandparents and now with granddaughter 😍

I love how she showered her with attention even though she wasn't nice. Most people would have just started ignoring her I think.
Her granddad is up there looking at them thinking "Look at my girls having littles adventures!" he must be so happy!
Maybe the grandparents were unable to go outside, so that's why Mackenzie was mostly an indoor cat till Angela adopted her.
I have a special place in my heart for cats labelled aggressive or grumpy, cause people often just misunderstand them 💞
I took a cat who was abused, it took me a whole year to pet her.
Cats -- they're not animals, they are cat-people
Or dont want to invest the energy and time to untangle the misunderstandings between human and animal. Every cat needs her own time and stuff you do for her to trust you. My Moms cat (she came to live with us when i was 9 and I had to leave her behind when I moved out at 18 years old) always trusted me again after I cleaned her litterbox. I didnt mind doing it bc I missed doing it for her.
Just like grumpy people. Usually just scared, insecure, sad or lonely. 😿
Yes, there is reasons people as well as animals are disagreeable. Most of the time
For 15 years, poor McKenzie was saying 'ffs take me on an adventure'.
Some families will just bring their grandparent's pets to the animal shelter. That is so sad that some families do that to their grandparent's and the pets who just lost their loved one. Glad this lady adopted Mackenzie!!
Angela was raised right! I am so thrilled she honored her grandparents by taking in their cat - I wish more people were like her.
Me Too!
What a wonderful granddaughter & human being. She is an amazing person.
We were always the family that took a deceased family member’s pet, even though there were 4-5 other families that could have done it but wanted to put the pets in a shelter. I’m glad she stepped up!
Such a great happy ending for them both!
it's also worth mentioning that her grandparents were probably good and caring individuals considering she went to such lengths for their sake. Not to mention that she said her grandpa was worried about his cat on his deathbed
The only thing that scares me about dying, is the fate of my animals. I'm convinced no one would be able to give them the amount of love, and spoiling, that I do and I'm sure her grandparents felt the same way. So by taking the cat and giving her a great brand new life, Angela is paying the ultimate tribute to her grandparents.
I fear that as well, my only fear in death is leaving my three cats behind, they are accustomed to a very spoiled lifestyle and I rescued them when they were just a few weeks old. I’d hate for them to be separated from each other as well...we are a happy little family

That thought have changed my relationship with my whole family. There was nothing I wouldn't do for my siblings and their children (even money and my home) until I realized that they would probably give away or put down my fur babies, their biggest and last connection with me the day I died.

Grumpy cat means they have bad owners who don’t know how to take care of them.
Most humans are animal abusers whether it’s knowingly or unknowingly.
She was grumpy because she was frustrated by the same old indoor routine. Cats are natural explorers, very inquisitive, hold large teritories and need that freedom. Some are better at ajusting to only indoor life but it's not natural to them and if they lack diverse play routines inside, they get frustrated, thus grumpy. 🤷♀️

"Growling is her love language. Mackenzie loves to be loved, but doesn't want you to know."
A Tsundere
I adopted an 11 year old cat in March. All the way home in the carrier in the car he made a noise like growling. It was difficult to tell though because I thought it might be a form of purring only with his mouth open. After three and a half months, he does it less so maybe it was growling. He has only recently allowed me to pet some parts of his body other than his ears and head. He lets me know that he doesn’t want to be petted but that knowledge sometimes comes with claws extended and a strong effort to bite. There is nothing gentle about that bite either ... half my hand at times and the claws are regularly sharpened so they draw blood too. He is slowly learning what the expression No Claws means and is adapting. Because he is so darned smart and sassy and well-behaved overall, I love him to bits. As I am learning about tuxedo cats, I’m finding that most of his behaviours are very normal for a piebald cat. At age 76 this is my first time having a feline roommate so I have a lot to learn.
I find the best way to win them over is through playing. None of my cats have ever been able to resist chasing an old rope, a few of them use a ping pong ball as a football. He probably was growling on the way home but that sounds perfectly normal. My rescue cats always disappear behind the couch for the first week, I leave them food but eventually they are lured out by..the rope..!
Younger cats adjust more easily, your cat is an adult, and it probably sucked to have someone make decisions about your life and where you get transported to. I'd probably growl too 😊 Good luck with your new cat adventure
He looks adorable 🥰❤️🐈⬛
Don't ever let anyone tell you cats cannot be trained. They can. If you keep saying No Claws, and then turning away and not playing with the cat, he will know exactly what it means. I have trained a cat to sit for a treat, to jump up when I smack the seat or table, and a few other things. I hope you and your cat have a long lovely life together. Takes them a bit before they're ok with being petted everywhere and just in case you don't know this, they turn to show you their underside but this isn't a universal invite to a belly rub.
Your cat sounds just like my cat she's extremely sassy and fiesty but at the same time well behaved cat super intelligent cat, I was able to teach her command and she didn't stop at 1 she learned 3 commands in such a short time. And always remember playing with your CAT is the KEY to their HEART ❤️

So kind of you to adopt your grandparent’s beloved pet cat. Most people would have put her in animal shelter. God bless you!
Most? Noone in my family would.
Cats -- they're not animals, they are cat-people
@@tdbhmusic my family would not either.
@@tdbhmusic But some would. I used to volunteer at an animal shelter, you wouldn't believe the things we saw. I volunteered at a no kill shelter that made the commitment that it would always take back any animal that had come from there, at any time, for any reason. They did ask for a surrender fee of $100 as a donation to the shelter but, if the person couldn't afford it, they would still take the animal back. No 'alumni' of the shelter was ever turned away. But we still had kids and grandkids dumping off their recently deceased parent's or grandparent's pets at nearby kill-shelters because they didn't want to pay the fee. They couldn't even be bothered to call and ask. Because our animals are micro-chipped the kill-shelters would scan them, find out that they had come from us and call us. We would go and collect them and call the owners in case the cat/dog had actually been lost. In most cases, nope, they just couldn't be bothered to pay $100 (or call and ask if they could forego it) for grandma's kitty that had been her faithful companion for the last ten years of her life...unbelievable.
@@suzy1750- I used to volunteer at shelters, too. And you're right - people do the saddest things for the most heartless reasons. I burned out.
Now I do off-site things to help, but I can't go into the animal rooms anymore. People who think animals aren't "aware" don't have hearts or souls.
What an amazing granddaughter! Mackenzie is so lucky to have such a wonderful extended family. And, of course, they are lucky to have her.
I'm loving her in that coat. Runway worthy!😍
this has to be the best cat owner ever. always making the cat super happy and giving mack such a nice life, all while enjoying it immensely herself
She is the special kind of person who wants to adopt senior kitties and give them a wonderful golden years home. Unfortunately, the shelters are full of senior cats that people removed from their home just because they're old and may have health issues
have you visited a shelter recently and saw this? I usually see one or two seniors in a sea of adult cats and a handful of kittens. The seniors stay there a long time yes, but I'm not sure your comment is accurate. I have a friend who literally went to shelters and adopted like five of their oldest longest lasting residents.
For me the biggest issue would be cost of medications, plus cats can be extremely difficult to medicate. Pill Pockets saved us, and I adored my senior cat, he was such a mellow sweet boy. I mean not everyone is well endowed with a fat bank account is all.
@@tdbhmusic yeah, I looked at several rescues and shelters in my metro area. Is your comment based on ANY actual research??
@@tdbhmusic and you think a shelter is going to spend hundreds of $$ on a senior dog or cat?
Mack's walking jackets are so cute!
Yes, that's all she was missing in her former life. She is a fashion queen and just needs to strut her stuff for attention. She is so lucky Angela recognized this.😉
She sounds like a broken Motorcycle. She's adorable ❤️❤️
Oh my goodness! Going outside was the thing she needed. How wonderful to see her change and love her adventures. ♥️
Grumpy cats are still great cats that should have love no matter what happens.
I imagine they were really worried about McKenzie, since she is such a grouch. She was very lucky.
I think she was mad that the grandpa who took care of her for good 15 years died. Like “whY diD yoU LeAve mE nYA?!” The granddaughter is filling that empty hole full and well. Bless them.
What a sweet girl for taking on a beloved pet of her parents
She seems like the kind of person who waves to both dogs and children when she sees them in the street, and I find that so sweet. She is literally a Disney princess.
If she hadn’t adopted Mack, her grumpy cat nature would have ended in her euthanasia as she would have been considered not suitable to adopt at a shelter. So happy Mack got to stay with family who saw the spark in her and knew all cats deserve to be loved.
I took my parents cat whey they passed away in '98. She was also 15 and lived with me for another 5 years. When she died, I had her cremated and sprinkled her ashes on their grave. She was really their cat after all, I was just there for her for a while.
It's admirable that you took your grandparent's cat and it's obvious that you love her. Hissing and growling are not normal however. She might have some condition like arthritis that makes her "grumpy". Hopefully you have had her checked out by a vet.
Thank you for taking in your grandparents' kitty. You are an angel. So many family members shelter-dump their families' pets. I hope Mackenzie knows she is one of the lucky ones
She needs to write a children's book about Mackenzie and her adventures
This is the best idea I’ve ever heard
I love this idea!!!
This is a good example of why you should give your cats some good outdoor time. 15 years old and she adapted quickly. Have a little patients and give them some fresh air.
I’ve tried but my cars are too prissy to go further than the porch
both my cat scarred of anything outside their territory (my home). i take em out for a walk, all they do is hide under car seat. dont want to go out at all.
@@speedytypermananswers5551 it's common knowledge you don't take out your cat without a leash or at least it should be...
@@Maverick99 - I was fortunate that my cat was trained that she always came when I called her. Not having her on a leash let her run up trees and run full speed outside around the yard.
I would if my yard was fenced off. So what I did was partition part of the back porch off and they can go out the doggie door I put in and roam out there.
This girl Angela is probably gonna be such a loving sweetest wife and such a caring sensitive mother!😊
Bless her and the kitty!🐈🐈🐈❤❤❤
But she is a mother.
This is 4 minutes of purrrfection 😾🥰 Made my day 💝 I lost my 23 year old kitty baby over a year ago. She was my everything. I have terminal cancer (no need to feel sad, nothing is set in stone as far as I'm concerned and I have AMAZINGING support). The hardest part was feeling I could never have another fur companion, worrying it would be left homeless and grieving if I passed. I got the idea of adopting senior pets who unfairly found themselves alone. I recently adopted 2 puppy-yupples 10 and 12 years old. They act like they won the lottery but their joy makes me feel like I did, they are pure love, mischief and laughter. I still miss my baby every day, but it sure is wonderful to be able to have them in my life. They have a home should I go before them. But it has made me think about setting up something in my state for the elderly or people in my situation, where we give loving homes to pets who lose their owner knowing that if we pass first our fur babies will have loving homes to go to themselves. Worrying about the safety and welfare of our loved ones and in particular our pets who can only rely on the goodness of others is easily the most stressful and heartbreaking worry of having a terminal illness or I suspect getting old. 💙
"She's quite upset. She doesn't like people today."
*every introvert*
@Rafael Labrador Rafael..that is so sad. Something must have happened to you and really hurt you. I hope you will seek healing for yourself. People need each other in life and there are truly good, loving caring genuine souls out there. Please don't give up. You deserve to be happy. 🙏 ❤️
Yeah that definitely sounds like me. I’m usually ok with spending time with people, but it’s usually the day after a social gathering that I’m in a grouchy, stay at home, read many books type of mood. My parents and brother have all learned that on those days it’s best to leave me alone and let me do my own thing… or to suggest getting ice cream
I totally relate
So much yes
That cat needed to get outside, the attitude change was instantaneous. Good Lick with her and God Bless 👍🏻🙏🏻❤️
What a lovely girl. When I am old, I'd hope to blessed with a granddaughter like her.
I love that she's literally having another life, a second life with lots of adventures. It's different than the life she had with the grandparents but now she's also having fun. Way to go :)
Her: i love you
Mackenzie: Arrrwwwrrrllraarr
Special lady, gave a grumpy cat a marvelous life 😻
That last picture of you two at the beach from behind is so phenomenal!
Mackenzie is the definition of tough love
You replaced her boredom with a great new life. She looks wonderful for being an older cat and just may live a lot longer now. You both are awesome together. 🥰🥰🥰
