Check to make sure that the secondary ground is making a good connection The negative battery terminal must be grounded to the body of the car and to the engine block.
I am not sure what year this car is... However, this happen to me, it is not anything typical or what you might think. Its kind of rare and will not show on a diagnostic and its hard to find since it has nothing to do with battery or other parts that would throw a code. It is a starter wire... Very odd they have to actually look at that specific part. When they diagnosed mine the guy had checked everything possible, because with so few miles it should not be your battery or another part, unless of course they are incorrectly hooked up, but they should not be faulty. It was not supposed to be covered on warranty however the dealership I got it from took care of it because it was a fluke thing :)
mine is in the shop right now for the a similar problem as well, a no start issue. It will crank and crank and crank but never fire up. I removed the cap on the top of the gas tank and pulled out the filter and sending unit cleaned it all up good it wasn't too bad anyway put it back in. I installed a new fuel filter. I also Purge the system with new fuel using a vacuum pump. I jumped the fuel shut off solenoid relay by connecting a wire to the terminal on the solenoid and running it to the positive side of the battery. I checked the 109 relay. I also checked the waste gate valve on the turbo to make sure that it wasn't stuck and it was good. I sprayed some good quality starting fluid with lubrication properties in it down the intake got it to run for a few seconds but that's it. I also disconnected the battery terminals and discharge to them to drain any capacitors from the car's computer and that didn't do the trick either. I check to make sure the inhibitor switch wasn't causing an issue but wasn't completely able to determine whether that was a problem or not. I guess the dealership gets to deal with all that. I'll let you know what they say the problem was if they're able to find it they'll be working on it tomorrow morning. I did almost everything I could think of to figure out what the problem was, I got as far as I could without the proper diagnostic tools. I don't have all the tools to check the compression of the engine to make sure that's good so the mechanics probably going to be doing that. I'll keep you posted, if you could keep me posted on what they say about yours that would be great as well.
@@mikeypoirier179 They said it was a complete loss of compression. I presume the cylinders got flooded with fuel and it caused it to lose compression. I never got it fixed I just sold it as it was. There is a way to fix the issue if such a thing occurs but it's been so long I don't remember exactly what those steps are.
Mine had the following symptoms, it was working fine, but one day I went to turn it on and it didn't do anything, it didn't start, nor did it turn on the dashboard lights, we tried with another battery and nothing, by chance I touched the Cruise control button, and then it came back to start, incredible, but try to see if it works for you too,
Im having trouble dianosing a 2014 beetle with a no crank no start ..i changed the brake switch cause there's no brake lights thinking since you have to apply the brake to start it ..after all of does is make a clicking sound ..i need some input on whst to check next..still no brake lights ????
Attention all 1999-2003 model beetle owners! Got electrical issues? Try seeing if water is leaking through a SEAL on the bottom of the engine water filler bottle through temp sender. Once seal begins failing water begins travelling through all the vehicles electrics! Even filling up tailights!!. Computer, speed sensors, etc are all effected! Cost us $4000 to find that out.....the water temp sender was put on top of the bottle in 2003. Funny that?!
I was about to say... I had that same problem on my '01. The battery-top fuse block shorted out, and killed my battery. I had to replace both to the tune of $500.
i know you fixed the problem already, but i just wanna say this. my sister had this same exact problem on her 1999 Jetta VR6. whenever it happened, she would always wait at least 10 seconds. and then try again, and it would work.
I had the same problem with my car. there was corrison on the upper battery post and that little compartment above the battery has to be cleaned to it had corrison on it to. and that whould fix the problem also that safe on your radio happens when u disconnect your battery and i have to enter the radio code , usally found in your service manual. good luckj
Wow! My 2001 GTi is doing this EXACT same thing...so it COULD be a short in the battery?? Would they be able to test it or would I have to get a new battery to find out?? I'm so intrigued now...BUT I disconnect and reconnect the battery and it starts right up!
It's a multi switch go to VW dealership the part is $233.00 we placed one in our 2003 beetle it cure all avenues and plus allowed the automatic transmission to shift normal
its either a starter or a bad battery i think a bad battery cuz u can hear it trying but if the battery is fine its ur starter mine got stuck a while ago what u do is get under the car and hit the starter with a hammer not really hard just tap it and try to start it and it will work if thats the problem cuz sumtimes a starter will get stuck by dirt or dust no joke look it up lol

Tyson Capel I'm experiencing the same problem. I have an 01 VW Beetle, new battery replaced at the start of the new year, new starter installed because of the grinding sound when it would try to start. After the new starter installed, no sound at all when trying to crank the car. It's currently at a local shop to run additional scans in the morning. They think it could be the computer on the car. I'm hoping that the additional scans made for VW will figure out what's going on without me having to go to the VW dealership or simply having my car towed back home. The dealership is very costly, mostly for the labor. It's a 15 year old car...I think she's still great, just has a problem that shouldn't cost hundreds of dollars to address. I've had her 5 of her 15 years & treated her well. -sad 😔

Heres the problem-you probably have had it fixed but im willing to bet this is it: Bad piston slappings. No, just kidding. Actually alot of times a car will act like that. People instantly think oh-my battery is dead or my starter is bad. It might not be actually! Alot of times you just might have alot of corrosion on your battery terminals, causing it not to start. Clean those terminals off and you should be good to go.

my beetle looks just like yours from the inside...and it says low battery .do you know what i should do about it? thanks!
Is there the number 53 on the side of the car? That could be your problem

yep, thats the battery putting out close to no power. happened to me when the battery died, but i guess the short would work as well.
Since it turns on, is there a was to put a wire direct to starter to verify if some part; f the fuckin ignition switch is bad ?
Thanks
Did you ever find out what it was? Mine 2001 did it to me today for the first time but started 2 minutes later!

its the battery, the grounds, or the ignition switch.

There's an extremely high chance that it's the MAIN RELAY.
Hey guys problemas on this vídeo is the Switch's is 2 steps and on the number 2 is lost the power communication that's it
is that the ignition switch you're talking about? and if it is do I replace the whole switch or is it more elaborate than that?
what was the problem did you find out

Might be discharging through the alternator when not running

THE BATTERY OR BATTERY CONNECTIONS FOR SURE.

Either body control module or battery thing
I'll test that 2nd person watching technique on mine. Thanks
