My brother-in-law does SaR and is also an EMT. He has had some amazing experiences helping people during their worst day.
Whenever we're together and his radio squawks, calling him in, I always tell him thank you.
And thank you to all who serve and help! You are appreciated ❤

Les Stroud, I just wanted to tell you how thankful I am for you and your channel. I'm currently waiting to have my 3rd hip replacement at 26 years old due to a military incident. I have been a fan for as long as I can remember, and have enjoyed watching and rewatching all of your content. Definitely has made this struggle better for me. Keep doing what you're doing man!

When I was a marine, I carried two garbage bags and an emergency blanket in my right trouser pocket for years. They saved my many times. For almost no cost and weight you have an emergency shelter and rain catcher that help you through the first night.

It absolutely is (one of my college roommates was Romanian, he had pictures!). Still a *lot* of poverty in the rural areas, though. A lot of people still have to move abroad to find work.
And if you're in Bucharest, the unfinished palace of the parliament that Ceausescu started and never finished is well worth seeing- it's MASSIVE (the current parliament of Romania uses it and doesn't even occupy 30% of it, and remember it wasn't even finished!) and some parts of it are weird as heck like a nuclear bunker and impossibly narrow staircases, but it's also gorgeous.

This commentary inspired me to seek out volunteer status among an SAR team. Even if any bush big enough to be good and lost in is a 3-6 hour drive from me (chicago area) there's no reason I shouldn't be on their list with my growing skillset. Also we need more of your favorite movies and music n such, its a joy to know the indoor side of you too Les.

Les, it's so funny that you just mentioned hiking poles in this video. Just before watching this video I finished a 3 hour hike and was just thinking the exact same thoughts on that hike about my hiking poles. I've used them a bit in the past, but I've been using them more and more this year, even though I'm a fit and young guy who used to scoff at people using them. Oh how wrong I was.
You nailed it, they're incredibly useful. I would actually say they make it more like 30% easier to hike up and down hills with, to be honest. The added benefit also is not twisting your ankles as much. If you do and it results in a severely injured or broken ankle, you would have two hiking poles that are incredibly useful; One for a splint, and the other to assist with walking.
I highly recommend them to anyone that doesn't currently use them.
Edit: I paused the video to write this and after resuming saw you demonstrated what I just said about the splint. Great minds think alike! Lol

Ironically, the situation that got me completely involved in survival and ways to survive...was a kid that got lost following his dog in the winter. He was found but 100yards from his house he was dead. Les changed how to look at survival in a monstrous way. He's the original.
Les, keep doing what you're doing, I can't wait to get involved in search and rescue once we move.

Les did you ever see a film called "Snow Walker" based on a Farley Mowat story. Canadian production. Relatively small budget film but I found it pretty moving and it touches on a lot of aspects of survival (mindset and indigenous techniques etc)

I'm loving these director's commentaries. I'm excited to see the Search and Rescue series. I think I've watched everything you've done. While I initially got into you as a kid because survival interested me, I think my favorite series has been Beyond Survival as an adult. I love learning about other cultures. The common current of respect and love for nature is something I connect to. I experience God the strongest when I'm in creation so I've always really loved the vibes and practical knowledge you teach. I love the respect you have for other cultures and beliefs too.

Hi Les, I really love the idea of the Search and rescue documentation as that is what most people would rely on. Just knowing what exists and how to be found, how to inform people such that one can be better found when lost. If you are still into survival and go for these training things, I would love to see you act as an "educated" hiker that knows he will have to make it as easy for SAR as possible to find him and how to identify asap that one is lost to make the earliest effort possible. Best and absolutely love your commentaries :)
Edit: I don't know if this would make sense. If the rescue team works off of "normal" behaviour and now there is a person doing atypical stuff, I don't know if that would actually help, as you are not really allowing for existing patterns to be applicable. Just an afterthought on what I wish for XD
