i am glad i started carrying a haversack with my pack, it is so nice to be able to set your pack down and take your light haversack with you on a scout or something makes it alot easier. thanks for showing me dave.
Always a pleasure to listen to your concise explanation of your experience in the wood. Very valuable knowledge that is always put to usage in my own treks into the woods with my kids. Thank you Dave.
I know this is an old video but I love your videos and all of you guys in self reliance Pathfinders, Shawn Kelly and so many more now.we are starting a small beginning bush craft class thanks to all you guys. Could name a bunch of guys, gray bearded Green Beret just awesome group thank you as well I'm a huge fan!
Quality kit Dave well used and proven. Cant tell you how much these vids mean to me and how much excellent info I've gathered from you. I thank you sir and please keep up the great work.
It may look a bit dorky today, but jn the old days, a Neckerchief Was worn daily, whether in the woods or city. It served the purpose of your net scarf, plus as many others as your lmagination can come up with. Bandage, hat, signal flag, sling or what all. It's a shame that style has removed it from the Scout uniform, and from Woodsmen in general. Out of the way, but available.
Dave thankyou very much for that! I only requested the video a few days ago and i was very happy to see it. I'm buying the 5C's haversack from your store from the UK i like it so much, thankyou. Cheers, Jack
Good kit as long as the individual is has knowlege, skills and resources to survive,or rough it a night or two in the woods.I watch your videos, and now recognize the need to hone my skills,as well as learning new skills, etc.I have included these 5 C needs in my day pack(and the other 5 C's).I purchased a decent 85% wool blanket(6 lbs),necessary tools(5 tool rule)ferro rod and other combustion devices,a 5x7 space blanket with grommets, container, and cordage(s).Not one hardware store, including chain stores like Lowes, carries Bank Line nor have they even heard of it.Great video,Dave.Keep em coming.
I just wanted to say thank you for all of your videos, I've had so much fun going out in the woods and just using all the things I've learned from your videos.
Great video! I've seen so many guys who go so gear heavy in their haversack! Add a small flashlight and a few bandages (I have 5 small children and they like the characters) and you have exactly what I carry. Awesome video.
" I thought it was something you carry for black powder arms" A haversack is a carryall for your personal gear. A shooting bag is for carrying items to make your muzzleloader go boom. Haversacks were used before knapsacks or backpacks were commonly used, and for sometime into the era of backpacks. It's really not a good idea to mix contents of the two because if you're reaching into your shooting bag to reload your one-shooter for that bear that's sizing you up, you don't want to grab a piece of camp gear instead of the components for reloading your firearm.
That's a fantastic kit Dave. I like that oil skin haversac and the rolled up oil skin rain jacket...those are items I could really use where I am! Thanks for sharing!
hey dave..i found 100% cotton safety orange cloth at the fabric store..i use that as my rag/char/bandage...and as a emergency signaling device great video dave really like the swiss canteen
Listen to this guy! No matter how prepared your pack is, have a knife and fire maker attached to your body as well. You might get swept in the water, critters may get into, or off with your pack without waking you.. you never know. also, dental floss makes very very compact cordage if you take it out of the dispenser, and can be used for fish line or sewing, as well as lashing.
Dave saw in your oil cloth watch coat videos you were wearing an extra large. For fitting comparison was curious how tall you are? Thank you for your videos.
That haversack looks similar in design to my Federal haversack I use in War Between The States reenacting. That reminds me, I need to check my kit for the 150th Resaca next weekend. :) I like that it has a pocket inside the flap. Does it have a liner on the inside as well?
peeps use to pick on me for carrying haversack last year hunting . then 30-40mph winds with gust to 50+ hits and i covered with rain poncho to break wind and stayed almost warm ....
Dave normally I don't ask where someone got something or what name brand/mfg a piece of gear is but I really like that hat. It looks tough enough to last and yet is straw for summer use. I would love to know where to look and see if they have one that will fit me.
Where is your 12 ga. ? You got me hooked on the single shot with the adapters. I got the 10 c's plus a lot more. I believe in overkill, It's better to have to much than not enough. The way I see it if I do not need it I can trade it for something I need. The only thing I do not have is a high dollar knife but I do carry a few knives in my kit.
Hay Dave, I'm a big fan. I have a question, how would you pack for a 2 to 3 day hike in a more arid environment (desert). Suggestions on containers, water, and overall pack weight? Thanks, Estle.
***** Gotta watch yourself Dave we are paying attention, lol I'm glad you take the banter as it is intended brother no malice intended. by the way are you still wearing boots or did Cody totally corrupt you? I'm just jealous because well just look at my pick I can only grow a mullet.
Can you make a video about dental hygiene on herbs that can keep your teeth healthy well in a survival scenario for sure is how to make a primitive version of a toothbrush if you lose yours
I believe he sells the seperate elements of it in the store, but you'll need to get your own bag and assemble the kit yourself. And that was the standard sized haversack, but made of water repelling oilcloth instead of the standard material. It's a few bucks more, but well worth it for weather protection.
Hay Dave, I'm a big fan of your videos I've leaned a lot . I have a question, how would you pack for a 2 to 3 day trip in a more arid environment (desert) - container, pack weight? Thank you, Estle.
Love the vids, but I wish you would do some educational vidoes down in Florida. I'd love to camp in the Appalachians, but probably won't be able to, how about teaching how to do it in different areas?
I was curious but didn't want to ask about the haversack. I thought it was something you carry for black powder arms. the use would be for shot and patches or ammo. I also thought since you have your pack with the 5 c's and some redundant things on your person ,one would, While hiking you come across some elements for birds nest; tinder or things for the soup pot that you would squirrel them away in the haversack as you march on ( pretty bad I had to look up how you spell squirrel) Dave do you have a dedicated squirrel pouch or another haversack? pocket. You are pretty organized so I thought i'd just ask this time.
The Pathfinder system teaches what we call Possum Mentality, it's basically gather what you need when you see it, that includes tinder and so on, that eliminates you depleting your kit items needlessly.
Cool stuff... throw Dave a peanut shell, a piece of dental floss and a fastfood napkin and he can live nice for a month anywhere on earth. Dave you are an exquisite human being brother!
Just got a Jeff White English Trade Knife! This thing is beautiful and functional. Shaved the hairs right off my arm. The wooden scales and the sheath did not come treated though, so make sure you oil/wax everything up!
really love your mentaliti and skills.... hated when you left dual survival.. maybe cody is good, in nature.. but i liked your way, much better. just an shout out to you;-) but would love to learn, all your skills
great video, you mentioned hygiene. a video on hygiene and sanitation would be very helpful, i looked at archives but it just seam to touch on the subject.
Wouldn't a day pack of similar size be more comfortable with the weight spread over 2 shoulders rather all the weight on one shoulder. Can't beat a Bic.

The haversack holds up tremendously well!
Best time of year to be out in the woods. You can smell the goodness of creation.
Pretty good small kit. And as long as you've got a beard you've always got that additional sure fire starting method. :)
"unless somebody steals my belt and my pants"........ Lol...
Love this channel, it's always insightful, educational and entertaining.
Quality kit Dave well used and proven. Cant tell you how much these vids mean to me and how much excellent info I've gathered from you. I thank you sir and please keep up the great work.

Its not for hardware its for fishing try your local bait shop or even Walmart will have it
Another Dave Canturbury classic! Great job.
If someone steals your pants you have bigger problems then not having fire and a knife lol.
I just wanted to say thank you for all of your videos, I've had so much fun going out in the woods and just using all the things I've learned from your videos.
Well the beards grown back I don't see the need for the fire kit ;o)
Another good vid DC thanks for sharing.
Thanks again Dave

Just had the same video request a couple times the past few days haha.
Nice run down man

Good gear and tips just keep coming. It's always a pleasure Dave.
Excellent video, brother! I really appreciate that you share such hard-earned knowledge with the rest of us. God bless!
I definitely need more dirt time. I can't go anywhere without some hot chocolate with me. >_o
Thanks for the video Dave
Nice looking kit dave
ah the good old bic lighter, the backup for when all else fails.
I just got mine today... I purchased the XL one... love it
Unless someone steals my belt and my pants... I got a good laugh out of that one!
Maybe Iris is with him. LOL!
That's a fantastic kit Dave. I like that oil skin haversac and the rolled up oil skin rain jacket...those are items I could really use where I am! Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, I love the oilskin rain jacket myself, but they really need to expand the sizes they offer. lol
I like the kit Dave.
If you need more than that, you probably need more dirt time.
Good one Dave. I can't agree more.
Then I defo need more dirt time as I need my hip flask a note book & pen!
Sounds like you said " Swedish officer canteen " but it is really a Swiss army canteen :) Great vid!
swedish fish.
Very smart kit.
Thank you for your video. When are you getting more haversack kits for sale?
Great video dave. God bless
You grew your beard back since that comedic video Dave. NICE.
Keep up the good work Dave
Your the best Dave...thanks!!

Your name is pretty...creepy...change it.
I realize now that my haversack carries way too much. Thanks Dave for simplifying my life. LOL
thanks Dave

So? What do you carry in the haversack when you have your back pack?
What other videos have you talked about your net device? Where do you get a net like that?
where can i find canteen like it ?
Excellent video
I bet that would be an interesting story. Have you ever have gotten stuck out in the woods overnight before? Thanks!
Dave saw in your oil cloth watch coat videos you were wearing an extra large. For fitting comparison was curious how tall you are? Thank you for your videos.
where do you live it is so beautiful
when and how many 55 gal bags do you carry? You have repeatedly said to carry them.
Too true Dave, things are stolen before they are lost.
I swear that this channel has the most commercials of any channel I sub to. Is that an option that can be set by the user/channel?
hey Dave, can you do a review on the 4 in 1 zippo axe tool.
Outstanding

Just a little off topic will you be doing a fishing series again this summer
What video did you cover the net in?
excellent vid.
peeps use to pick on me for carrying haversack last year hunting . then 30-40mph winds with gust to 50+ hits and i covered with rain poncho to break wind and stayed almost warm ....
Dave are you going to make more blacksmithing videos any time soon

Last time you showed that canteen/cup set, you said it was Swiss... Which one is it?
It looks like the Swiss sets that I've seen. The Swedish army does not have anything like it unfortunately.

Is this the Pathfinder Haversack or the XL - Pathfinder Haversack?? also do you have the fire kit bag you carry in your store??

Actually, I believe they are now offering a 'kit' kit ;^).

How much does this weigh as shown? 5-6 lbs??? Thank you, nice video!
Do you guys sell those officer canteens at your store?
Hay Dave, I'm a big fan of your videos I've leaned a lot . I have a question, how would you pack for a 2 to 3 day trip in a more arid environment (desert) - container, pack weight? Thank you, Estle.

"you probably need more dirt time." Dave there's no such thing as too much dirt time.
is this the haversack xl 16"×18" version or the smaller one that's $39.95 I believe?

No first aid kit?

great video, you mentioned hygiene. a video on hygiene and sanitation would be very helpful, i looked at archives but it just seam to touch on the subject.
Dave talked about that in either the Yurt series or the Tipi series, I can't recall which one off the top of my head.
I wear a back up belt because I really don't want anyone stealing my pants.
Just to be clear, this gentleman´s first name by birth is "David", am i correct?
Sweet, a new video :)
thanks again
thx some good stuff as always
