Ken , this is the best review of the UHQR’s thus far because you speak with a story teller’s sense of narrative about the compelling power of the music! The audiophile details are icing on the cake-
Hi Ken, great background and analysis, especially when it comes to the VV and Scott LaFaro. I'd add to the list his record with Hampton Hawes "For Real!", taht was also released after his death and contains an obituary on the back cover. I do agree on those UHQRs being almost of sonic perfection when it comes to other version. Chad is really setting the standards when it comes to the best audiophile reissues.
Great overview of two great records. The best part was you waxing lyrical about the overt lyricism of Bill Evans, Scott LaFaro, and Paul Motion. Your deep enthusiasm for jazz is greatly appreciated. Keep it up!
Earthy sound. You got that right. They had color. Tone. Focus. Clarity. No remaster of anything I have had sounds like it did before.record or CD. Old AAD CDs had color also.
A history lesson I believe we all needed to understand about these recordings. You've brought a huge introspective that lumes over these titles. You've opened up my awareness as much as Acoustic Sounds opened up the sound quality. Bravo 🎉
Bravo on an amazing video describing two of my favorite Bill Evans albums, Sir Ken! Your description of the musicianship between Bill, Scott and Paul is awesome, my friend!
I don't have a thing to add. Just want to express my appreciation for this Ken. This was a very thoughtful and well planned video composition. Two of my favorite records and you captured here a lot of why I love them. Keep it up please. You're a rock in the Jazz Vinyl world.
First time I have heard a vinyl collector / UA-cam presenter ever admit that a vinyl is actually “ condensed “. Woo I thought that was only used for a put down to CD users. Well done mate. Love your honesty. From a CD user.
Compared to a typical vinyl release, UHQR of the same title is more wide open, resolving and larger sounding. But CDs are dead and buried for a reason.
Nailed it again Ken..IVE LISTENED TO BOTH UHQR’s 2x now…so well done. What a trio…simple but so musical…I have both 80’s OJC’s …as well..not close!, Thanks for your historical review…very important….JG
Great review of these UHQRS! Very in-depth and informative! I didn’t purchase these because I bought the OJC versions last year and they sound wonderful on my system Figured I’d save 300 bucks
I picked up 'Sunday' just recently for a couple of dollars Australian at a huge book sale (on CD) and somehow I find it very odd to be listening to the applause from sixty years ago despite not having the same thoughts about the live recording as a whole. As for the UHQR version on good gear - "when the boat comes in"!
Ken , this was quite refreshing on a quiet jazz week in the city with all the saber rattling going on. I must say I feel the same. This is definitely another step up from the Box Set version by Chad and the new OJC offering from Kevin and craft..
Thanks for the super insightful video essay, Ken. Does anyone know of a comparison between these UHQRs and the recent Craft/OJC reissues of these records? Sure, the UHQRs will be better. But better enough to justify spending another $300?
@@hifitommy check out what? They interviews online with Bill Evans, where he pronounces it Modi-an. If you have a link to Paul pronouncing it differently post it.
Another outstanding review, Ken. I have the recently released OJC reissues of these classics and think they both sound fantastic. I was curious to hear your comparison of those LPs, but I had no doubt that the UHQR reissues would be top-tier. Cheers!
Great articulate and emotional review Ken! Two masterpieces for sure.🙏💞

I love how you talk about *musicians*, not just music.
Thanks, Ken. Unlike most of the VC, you actually know something about music. Great video!
HA HA HA . THANKS

Great review Ken! Good information, as always!

Thanks a lot
A wonderful review of some wonderful music Ken, thank you. 🙏.
Thanks for an amazing overview and album reviews , great as always
As others have said, this is the best review of these I’ve seen. Really appreciate the clarification on pronunciation of the names too.
Thanks very much Ken. Your reviews are incredible. I’m broke but I had to order these. I will now listen to this music with an increased appreciation.
Thanks for the review! “Sunday …” is my all time favorite.

Lovely video, thank you.
There’s a Paul Motion documentary on UA-cam. In it they speak to Paul and his last name is pronounced like the action MO-SHUN
Well, that’s what I always thought. But if Bill Evans who worked with him pronounces his name different, I’ll go with Bill Evans.

Thanks for listening
Nice review, as always.
I have never understood the enthusiasm for Bill Evans. No matter how many times I listen to his recordings they still feel flat. Soul-less.

Enjoy!

I have to hear the ojc
Nice overview.

Lemme get a UJC
It would be amazing to get your take on them.
love it!
how do they compare to AP box set titles? I tell you it is pretty close call I have both
ACTUALLY, Motian's name is pronounced as motion...AS PRONOUNCED by himself. Check it.

Pretzel Logic made no logic
Terribly closed off - no mids shrill top end

I should check those out. Thanks.
