I am a Jazz guitar player, when Jazz musicians/former Jazz musicians ...whatever, talks about Jazz, I always agree. When these "Jazz Experts" on UA-cam talk about Jazz, I often disagree. Great as always Ken, love your channel.

Kind of Blue. You are absolutely right. That is a Bill Evans album. No doubt! Granted, it’s the entire sextet, but, it’s the genius of Evans that makes it.

Well... some of the Paul Motian stuff is borderline too abstract/free for my taste, but the stuff where he's playing more recognizable tunes, particularly the Monk in Motian album. I kind of feel that Motian made a change like a realist painter going to a totally abstract, non-figurative approach... and I think both eras are brilliant. I feel like on this album and others Motian and his group strikes a great balance between the melodic/lyrical and the abstract...

5:48 - I know about Bill Evan's authorship of 'Blue In Green' (which he later spoke about) and also know that 'Flamenco Sketches' is essentially a reworking of Bill's own 'Peace Piece' and 'Some Other Time' , both originally released on his 1958 album 'Everybody Digs Bill Evans'. Now thinking about why you said, I can also see how he might've also come up w/ the basic concepts for 'So What' and 'All Blues', I don't think it's all that impossible at all...Another tune Bill pointed out to be his, but which was also appropriated by and credited to Miles, is 'Nardis'.

Cant see Evans writing the sparse bass line/intro of So What. Too brash for his vision.

@@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455I don't now if he wrote the intro and line, but you find it 'too brash For Bill? OK w/ all due respect, I beg to differ, I hear quite the opposite, to my ears that intro is not really brash at all, but you first said, rather sparse and rather understated and as such totally in tune w/ Bill's writing and playing style. But let's agree to disagree! Peace.

Great choices there for drummers, and I would like to add Billy Cobham, Roy Haynes, Jack Dejohnette and Steve Gadd to the mix. Jack Dejohnette wasn’t as explosive as Cobham and Roy Haynes, but he is a magnificent musician that plays piano as well as he plays the drums as evident on the extremely hard to find album Return.

I not sure I think it's a "Bill Evans album" thats a bit subjective if someone says they have heard that and don't give sources. He's only co-credited with two songs on the album. Miles had an idea and Bill Evans was part of that idea?

Why are you calling them vinyls like all the young dilettantes? You’re a highly knowledgeable expert and an adult, they’re records.
