I like those three car electric sets, rode around Perth on them when I was last there, done a couple of video on them nifty little numbers they are. That crossing noise gets on your goat after a couple of minutes, hit the "mute" icon. Nice little video WATS.
I've had this spot on the WATS location shoots agenda for a while now!☺ Yep a true railway history here, being the site of the former Midland Railway Company's depot.
@@westernaustraliatrainscene5689 , i think the mrco station was opposite the stockman pub. traces of the pedestrian overpass remained until recently. one of their lines ran along the crescent. the line from their station peeled off and ran up lloyd st. i think the government station was near where you are before being moved to the soon to be removed location. the mrco had sheds in the crescent. there used to be a sunday market there about 30 years ago. i havent been up that way on a sunday morning for decades. fyi, i scored 2 cupboards made of jarrah with mrco initials on the doors. they were probably made by the chippys that fitted out their rolling stock.
That'll would've been a big difference, on the electric suburbans, then out bush on the IP. Thanks for sharing that. And yeah the A series railcars, now 32 years old.
this will be history soon, ( maybe from 2025 ), the PTA wont have any standard gauge into East Perth, prospector service will start/stop from midland, I.P,,, well.....should be going to Fremantle, but guess who doesn't want any trains, of any sort in Fremantle...nice council ...., The world class I.P will be leaving from a Freight terminal, and that's because Pacific National has been good enough to help out. As for people complaining about dirty locos, this is a freight company, most of the time the locos for this are washed, but anything can happen when coming so far, locos get changed around for lots of different reasons, and sometimes missed getting cleaned, if they had there own locomotives it would be different, but its cheaper to contract it out.
Thank you for commenting. Appreciate your article, and yes, it was discussed some years ago. About Fremantle being a terminus for the Indian Pacific. Right next door to Victora Quay's Passenger Terminal. I think at that time, the business proposal was knocked back, as East Perth Terminal was the established standard gauge terminal.
Yes, being there to see both trains at Midland. Perhaps it was to do with suburban train timetable. Seeing that at Baydwater Station, an Airport Line train would also be connecting.
the ip needs to travel at low speed as it approaches east perth. it is a juggernaut that must adopt a speed to ensure there will be no risk of overshooting the station (just in case wayward children have spread grease or banana skins on the tracks) and it is more than a kilometre in length. the ip would have to crawl along in the suburbs even if it arrived at 0300 in the morning
Hi. Thanks for sharing that information with us. Yeah, it's a sad time ahead for the Indian Pacific passenger train in 2025. It will no longer operate to East Perth Rail Terminal, via the suburban lines. PacNat's Kewdale Freight Terminal will be the arrival and departure point for passengers. Apparently, it will conflict even more with the suburban trains scheduling. When the new Ellenbrook line trains start running end of this year. The PTA Operations Controllers will be happy about that. There's no free land space available to build a dedicated third line for the IP and Transwa railcar services, from East Perth Terminal to Midland. Welcome to Western Australia!
@@westernaustraliatrainscene5689 , well the ip wont fit at perth station. seriously, perth station is so small. i wonder just where at kewdale. there's spare land to the south of the mainline there. but how are passengers going to get away from or to the place? there might be space to the west of the forrestfield train station
WHEN I WORKED FOR WESTRAIL, WE DROVE THE GREEN AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL LOCOS, WE ALWAYS MADE SURE THE LOCOS WAS WASHED AND CLEAN BEFORE LEAVING ON EVERY TRIP.

Yeah those A series railcar sets, will eventually be withdrawn. As we've been told, when the all the new C series are in traffic.
Good to see a video from this location. Midland Terminal will soon be consigned to history.

Drove both. EMU’s when they were almost brand new 1991. Then the IP as a NRC driver at Kalgoorlie.

@@westernaustraliatrainscene5689 Fremantle Station is also way too short to handle the IP.
Why did pta not let the Indian pacific train go first then it would not be going so slow to get to East Perth terminal too just wondering

Great footage!
Thank you, and good spotting with the shopping trolley,!

Hi, this is at Midland. Terminus for the suburban line out from Perth City. Thanks for watching.
@@westernaustraliatrainscene5689 Thanks for the heads up, & you're welcome. I have content. Love from here 👍
As an ex Sydney Trains driver all I can say is if that had happened in NSW the Area Controller (Signaller) would have had some explaining to do.

Australia's most iconic passenger train and the locomotive looks like crap. How about having it look clean and immaculate! Seriously WTF?
Now and then, you'd get a clean looking or brand new repainted NR class loco up front of the I.P.

Would have to be longest passenger train in Australia 26 carriages plus 1 car carriage.😲
There up to 34 coaching set now, without the motorail wagon. Holiday peak season longer consist.
