The "B" series Audi has always been my favorite. From the beast of B5(S4) all the way to the B8.5. The one I didn't care for much was the B7. Thank you for making this video for the people who need to know not only to inform themselves about a possible purchase, but as you mention, to help the current owners know/make better decisions about their repairs(Be it DIY, or specialty shops).

Interesting. In Finland the base trim is business trim. It has folding rear seats, LEDs/xenon's, front and rear parking sensors , Bluetooth, and heated seats standard. It does not have leather seats (cloth seats which are actually quite good), no sun roof, no automatic seat adjustments and no rear seat climate vents (that's silly). A bit different trim compared to that premium.

Great video guys. I plan on picking up an 09 a4 tomorrow. Looks like it's had quite a bit of work done already. Hoping I don't have to put new piston rings in it 🤞🏼
Really great information, and an honest review, as a tech have you ever come across any information as to why Audi runs there thermostats at 88C and results in actual car operation of 96-100C under normal city driving 94C on that highway (although the temp gauge shows a steady 90C between 88-108C). After opening the top end of older Audis its clear that almost all rubber oring and gaskets have failed by hardening. Including the infamous timing chain tensioner failures which is really the plastic guides disintegrating. Are there any thermostat options like 75-80C? because these engines are literally cooking them selves.

Thank you for this! I drive a B8 S5 special edition. I'm looking to upgrade my MMI, I have 3Gx but with the older screen. How much should it cost to upgrade?
Glad you enjoyed the video! Some of the key things that did/didnt change from B8 to B8.5 are...Oil Consumption issues were addressed on B8.5 (they went with a tighter clearance on the cylinders, and upgraded to thicker rods my 2mm), but the waterpump and tstat still leak, and the control arms still get torn bushings. Most of the updates were based on the actual facelift/aesthetics of the car.
FCP Euro thanks for clarifying, disappointing they kept the plastic water pump in the 8.5. Thought that was just a serious design flaw that could be easily remedied with a higher quality part.
Awesome video. A must see for the potential B8 buyers. I recommend not to buy an Audi at all. They break to often and they will eventually turn into a nightmare. My B8 was a real money pit. Greetings from Germany
Hi Zay, for the best upgrade potential we would recommend you buy the S4. The A4 uses a 2.0T engine which is mildly upgradable, but the S4 has a ton more potential. The diesel on the other hand is also mildly upgradable but has less potential than both the TDI and the A4 2.0T.

We checked and dont see any TSB's for your engine code whether its CCTA or CETA. So hopefully nothing to fear... However, if you feel like you are experiencing oil consumption. Check your basics such as looking for oil leaks or look into updating your vehicles breather
Excellent video. PLEASE PLEASE MAKE ONE ON VW CC VR6(VeryRare6) is what I have named me 2013 Fontana Red executive. And the 2.0T, had the 2011 black luxury also.
Very informative review. But unless I missed something there was no information about the V6 engine of the S4/S5 so very big omission making this video.
Hey Ben, we decided to focus on the A4 variants for this video but plan to dig deeper into the S4/S5 and the correlating engines and problems associated with them in the near future!
I have 2009 A4 Audi replaced all pistons at 92000 km in 2015 as it was burning 1.23 L of oil for 500 km, they did this for free, now in 2024 the oil consumption is to spec.
I've read that the B8 S5 V8 should have problems with its timing chain aswel, and also the chain guides. Is this true? I'm looking to buy an S5 v8, but this is the ONLY factor, that might stop me from buying it.
I’m from México and I have a 2013 A4 B8.5 and this video is great 👍🏼 all the things you said are true. The control arms are totally a piece of sh#%%* I would like to replace them for a better ones but in Mexico it’s pretty difficult to find a good quality in replacements parts.

We have a video planned specifically for the 4.2 engine.
@@fcpeuro Oh super. When's that supposed to drop? I'm looking to get a B8 S5 here pretty soon
@@therealjoshtodd we are literally shooting the S4/S5 Buyers guide and supporting content next Monday! So be on the lookout. That being said a lot of the suspension stuff discussed in this video does carry over.
@@fcpeuro Ah. Well it'll drop just in time for me to find out all the stuff I need to know about the S5 I already bought. haha I'm buying it some day this week
@@fcpeuro Haven't seen you guys drop that video yet!
So if I have 2013 Audi TT, the oil consumption related issue should be addressed? I mean, you said that 2013 model year A4 has some kind of improvements over up to 2011 made engines? Does a TT follow A4 with its 2.0T engine?
Thanks.
We checked and dont see any TSB's for your engine code whether its CCTA or CETA. So hopefully nothing to fear... However, if you feel like you are experiencing oil consumption. Check your basics such as looking for oil leaks or look into updating your vehicles breather
I thought the B8s came with a ZF8, not a 7 speed automatic?
Great review
Thanks! Glad you liked the video!
your transmission info seems off as they have an 8 speed transmission automatic with gears not cvt on quattro model
he said CVT on FWD only.
Excellent video. PLEASE PLEASE MAKE ONE ON VW CC VR6(VeryRare6) is what I have named me 2013 Fontana Red executive. And the 2.0T, had the 2011 black luxury also.
Please same video on A6 4G!
Lovely cars bar the oil consumption issue Audi tried covering up
Very informative review. But unless I missed something there was no information about the V6 engine of the S4/S5 so very big omission making this video.
Hey Ben, we decided to focus on the A4 variants for this video but plan to dig deeper into the S4/S5 and the correlating engines and problems associated with them in the near future!
Great, thank you. Looking forward watching it!
2013 Audi A4 2.0T a good option?
I have a 2009 B8 Avant 2.0T quattro automatic and it is a 6-speed auto.
I have 2009 A4 Audi replaced all pistons at 92000 km in 2015 as it was burning 1.23 L of oil for 500 km, they did this for free, now in 2024 the oil consumption is to spec.
The seats fold down in every trim of the B8, except the base model "premium".
Man this and that $5000 sensor fix issue makes me just want to go with a B8.5
I've read that the B8 S5 V8 should have problems with its timing chain aswel, and also the chain guides.
Is this true? I'm looking to buy an S5 v8, but this is the ONLY factor, that might stop me from buying it.
The B7 and B8 have updated timing chain guides.
@@fcpeuro I'm certain the B7 have the bad chain guides.
I’m from México and I have a 2013 A4 B8.5 and this video is great 👍🏼 all the things you said are true. The control arms are totally a piece of sh#%%* I would like to replace them for a better ones but in Mexico it’s pretty difficult to find a good quality in replacements parts.
I have a B8.5 S5, APR stage 2 with almost 80K miles. It's been rock solid and I've spent 0 bucks on repairs so far.
That's awesome, Shuo! Audi did make a number of updates with the B8.5, so they do have fewer issues. I'd still find some wood to knock on, haha!
Why you didn't cover any diesel engines?
kan i ikke lave en video om Volvo 2,9 t6, fuld service og hvad jeg skal være opmærksom på i købet af dette bil år 1998 til 2004.
Man dedicated his life for audi and VW. Even the founder doesn't
Does A4 B8 have a sport differential? Or its only in S4?
A4 will not have a sport differential, at least in the North American Market. Other markets it may have been an option.
Milwaukee tools for the win!
What rims are on the allroad?
Those are RS5 Rotors
Where's the love for the diesels?
This vid was shot in the states. Unfortunately we never got the diesels for the B8 here
