I just recently bought the 12v as my first impact driver and I love it. I can't keep my hands off of it. It just fits in my hands. I'm constantly looking for loose screw around the house to tighten. Now I'm searching for what available attachments I can add in both drilling and driving. 😁
I converted to Skil slowly from DeWalt and Milwaukee (my pockets thank me)I still got them but the 12v line just fits my needs I don't need a ton of power I do cabinets and it's plenty
I just recently bought a 12 volt impacter kit and a 12 volt drill kit. I like them both. I bought them as backups for light duty use. We have a koul tool for pushing fittings into ridgid tubes. 30x at a time. Not hard work just repetitive and would suck without a drill....
Thats the new 12v and the old 20v. New 20v has the same ring light the 12v does plus the quick insert collet. I'm sure it's probably more powerful as well
@@UnbeatenPath1 The last time I visited my local Lowe's was about 6 weeks ago and I don't recall seeing the newer 20V tools either, however I just saw online and it says I can local pickup one of these from Nov 1st so maybe they've started shipping these out to some Lowe's or they're only handling these by online orders. Quite strange since these were launched early this year
Nice head to head. And the runtime test checks out as the 12V battery provides 24Wh so it achieved 18 holes or about 1.33Wh for each one while the 20V battery has 40Wh and achieved 31 holes or about 1.3Wh for each.
I have 12V DeWalt Impact already.. but alas, I did not know Skil 12V was this good when pulling the trigger at the time. I have Skil 12V circular saw (comes with 4Ah battery) and a multi tool which are mostly overkill for me. If I were to establish a new tool lineup from scratch again, I'll hop into Skil, especially 12V, without remorse.
Thanks for the review. Would be nice if the 20 volt had the flash light feature. I'm sure after using it all day, the 12 volt would have less strain on your hand. But the 20 volt might get the job done faster...
@leestoolreview It's probably a corporate decision. Like Walmart, they probably buy items to sell at a certain price point and at that level, the consumer might not get all the options you could have gotten if you have bought from Skils or one of their dealers website. For instance, my wife bought a carpet shampooer from Walmart. The model Walmart sold, only had one beater bar. The one on Amazon had two and didn't offer a one bar version.
Skil has a 20v model that is basically the same design as that 12v with a halo light, one handed collet, etc. It's also a compact mode which probably matches the size of the 12v better, too. My local Menards sells both the older and newer versions.
As far as the hex driver, I think I'd go with the Power 12. I much prefer the Halo light on the 12v, especially if I can get a 4Ah battery for it. If SKIL should reconsider the work-light placement of the 20v, I would be more inclined to go with the 20v.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE SKIL AND THEIR PIONEERING CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION WITH DESIGN WITH WEIGHT BUT ESP WITH THE HALO LIGHTS LIGHTS IN GEN....AND THEIR SUPER LW BATT... HOW COOL THEY KEEP THE TOOLS BATTS....AND HOW THEY DO THE USB ON THE BATTS AND CHARGERS!! I mean SKIL ABSOLUTELY changed tools and batts tool design lighting esp!!! And weight! And WTH EVERY DAMNED TOOL MAKER ON THE MARKET DID NOT IMMEDIATELY FOLLOW ALL THESE IS BEYOND ME!!! ALL OF THESE THINGS SHOULD BE MANDITORY ON TOOLS!! Just like the halo lights! The collet! WTH WOULD ALL TOOLS NOT DO OR WANT TO DO BE DOING THIS!!?? Who doesn't want to be able to just pop the bit in!!?? But then SKIL goes and drops the ball on this shit with this new 20V Impact etc... WTH WOULD U NOTTT DO WITH THE 20 WHAT U DID SO BRILLANTLY WITH THE 12!!?? And FOR GODS SAKE SKIL WTH CANT U MAKE BAGS BOXES TO PUT UR BRILLIANT TOOLS IN? I MEAN U MAKE THIS GREAT SHIT AT LEAST ON SOME??? OF UR TOOLS INSTEAD OF ALL!!?? CONFUSED THERE!? AND U DONT PUT ANY CASES WITH UR KITS TO FREAKIN STORE UR SHIT IN!? So I gotta buy those from HF! BAUER ESP BEING SAME COLOR WORKS GREAT!! But u need to put some SKIL bags cases boxes etc out with ur tools!! Jesus already!! Personally I think SKIL is making the best falned bang for the best damned buck!! But Ryboi even HART has cases boxes bags! For now Bauer bags and tool boxes r great well blt and as they r my big line rt now giving this bus to them works out fine great!! But still ud think ud want that bus and want ur tools to be well protected! And PLEASE DO WITH UR BIG LINE WHAT U HAVE DONE WITH UR 12 LINE!! ESP THE IMPACT!! HALO LIGHTING IS THE BEST DAMNED THING TO HIT THE MARKET! I NEED TO SEE WHAT AND WHERE IM WORKING!! AND NOTHING BEATS THE HALO LIGHTING!! INCLUDE THIS OR THE BEST LIGHTING ON ALLLL UR TOOLS! WTH WOULD U NOT PUT IT ON THE 20V! I have the new 12v pair and they r like half the size of the ones b4!! Look a ton better perform a ton better esp that Impact!!! And r just the best out there!! And for 49.99 on the 1 and 59.99 on the other and on the OSMT rt now! And finally a damned sale on the 12 circ saw!! Just can't be beat!! Tho I would day ur little circ needs a lot more power! But it does make nice cuts! Anyways I'm with u! That 12 wins!! Just better features!! And ya it feels damned good in ur hand!! Hell u make things up to do just so u can use a good tool like this!😊😂🎉
There’s a 12V Skil & 20V Craftman both on sale for the same price. Which would ya’ll choose. I mainly want a smaller compact one so I’m leaning 12V Skil
I like the 12v version as well. 2 battery platforms likely breaks down into 2 engineering teams, and their target is everyone else. I have several Ryobi 18v, all brushed😕, one of them optioned without a light at all, and the "it takes 2 freak'n hands collet, which should be cast out of the industry! Period.!!!(I bought it used for $15.00, and it came with 4Ah HP battery, so...I do plan to get rid of it eventually, along a bunch Ryobi stuff I don't use a anymore.) It seems the 12v team got everything right. It's not as small as my 3rd Gen M12 FUEL hex driver, but my hand is too large for just the tool without a battery in it. I like the new 2.5Ah battery, and I the 5Ah Milwaukee just came out with. I like the 4Ah and above batteries, because they make grip fit my hand, and they enable the tool to stand up on the battery like every other power tool I'm used to.
Again, the light on the base is.... better than no-light-at-all, but it's the least ideal placement. Users don't like it, if compared to other styles of 'Halo', 'Tri-LED', 'Dual-LED', 'Under-Barrel/Over-Trigger'. I mean, for crying out loud, you can use the 12v as work light for the 20v.😕 And I hate the 2 handed collet so much, I have to bitch about it just one more time. SKIL, y'all fix that on Gen 3, or 4... well, I haven't been paying that much attention to SKIL's battery powered tools until just recently.

@@leestoolreview I haven't seen it there either. I've only seen it on Amazon

Well apparently the new 20V does have more options. My local Lowes apparently doesn't like getting new tools in.

Are the batteries interchangeable?
No, 12v and 18/20v are not interchangeable.
In my opinion 12v tools are a waste of money. You either want power or not.
