When I purchased my plane in 2021 I paid 174k. After a new engine install and few upgrades I had it re appraised at 259k. For a 24 year old 4 seat single engine.
Prices are nuts, I've wanted to get my PPL and have my own airplane all my life. I'm now at a place financially where I thought it would be easy. What a shocker when I started looking at prices lately after not looking for several years.
I agree even for people that have money i can’t wait till they come out with a personal vtol with long range and hardly zero maintenance so that everyone in this world can travel inexpensive
@@AC-jk8wq they need to to use the two electric motors up front to to be running while charging the rear motors and when those two are charged use those two rear motors to run vehicle while charging the front motors …back and fourth back and fourth …we are getting close but not quite there yet…how else do you think ALIENS get here by propetrual motion continuously never run out of fuel ever
eVTOLs are coming, but there is no inexpensive in aviation. Electric planes are coming to flight training due to their far lower cost per operating hour.
I'll post this in the hope that someone can give an idea here. This really hits to the points I have. 2 fold. Cost of training (very many places will NOT train sport license) is huge barrier. Also why hasn't there been a ford or Nissan or whatever of aircraft? AKA a low price mass produced? LSA would be a sweet spot for this.
You aren’t kidding about the costs going sky high for GA. I’m going the rotorcraft route - no interest in fixed wing ownership. I’ll rent if I want to fly planes. ;)
@@AC-jk8wq Well, I’m buying a brand new Hill HX50 and it’s approaching $700k with all the options I want. But to answer your question - helicopters have gone up in price but not as much as GA fixed wing. It’s really the low-end that’s getting hammered, not so much the over $500k aircraft.
Hang out at the local grass strip and make friends with all of the guys that no longer fly. There are gems hiding in those hangars that don’t open anymore, and they can be had for not a lot of money. Like everything in life, success comes from who you know.
You can do everything you said and still there will be surprises. Count on a learning curve. Count on your first annual with your local shop costing more than you thought possible. This is inevitable as each A&P has their own particular set of specific things they focus on which are unlikely to be what the previous mechanics did, and even the pre-buy shop. This is especially true with older airplanes. However you end up with a safer, better maintained plane. It's just that it can be a lot of money so be prepared and have a good communications relationship with your mechanic. Count on your mechanic as if your life depends on it, because it does.
Prices have gotten ridiculous but Carbon Design offered me a brand new factory built FM250 Vampire II for 83700€ including ballistic parachute. Good looking pretty fast plane although only 912 engine but still 3x cheaper than bristell or VL-3. If Carbon design has far more reasonable prices then everyone should support them instead of getting robbed by other brands. There is zero reason they should be that expensive.
It has to. I would like to buy my first plane at a reasonable price and afford to maintain it. The current rate of appreciation is untenable. Depreciation may hit hard. Airline pilot hiring remains stronger than pre-2022, but there has been a recent trend of slowing down. As a plane owner that just finished a panel upgrade and an annual. My suggestion to new pilots is to stay in the rental game. Let the flight school or club carry the burden of the maintenance and annual expenses. As the renter you show up and fly. As the owner you pay and cry.
As a renter you are at the mercy of the flight school or club for availability. There is nothing like being able to fly whenever I need to, for business or pleasure. If you can find a situation which you're happy with for renting, go for it, but in busy areas it's extremely challenging, especially on holiday weekends.
@@flyer617 When I rented i booked the planes three times a week months in advance for over two years, and was very satisfied with the planes and the flight school that I received my PPL from. I love my Mooney and am very happy now. But have been grounded for months while it was in maintenance and avionics upgrades. If you are just getting started I stand by finding a reputable flight school or club to fly with. And not be burdened with the cost and complexity of ownership.
A wise man once told me whatever your budget double it and you might get lucky and be close to that number . Covid really ruined the market for the buyer
I’m sorry to hear that. There are hundreds of flying videos on the channel you can watch. Life is happening and I’m busy getting other people in the cockpit as Pilots. When the time permits I get to fly and I’ll certainly have it on video. Appreciate the support so far!
@@mojogrip I won’t dc this page in no small part that you took the time to respond. Your channel in some small part was helping me see how ludicrous my feelings are. I guess I was worried about losing that. I meant no disrespect and appreciate what you are doing. I fly with my wife more than alone and I've had friends along too. Less so for the rear two seats but I use them enough to have a couple extra headsets back there.
Yeah. Everyone want to go flying until you say “hey, I’m a pilot.” They’re like “Do you serve liqueur on this plane?” You say “No.” They like “forget about it.” The world is full of fearful drunks.
Prices are falling. This video could have been made a year ago. 2 years ago there were 54 cirrus sr 22 on the market just on controller, today 367. Interests rates are high and people are broke and those people that think they are rich are about to realize they aren’t. Only us who own real estate will still be standing as long as debt is low.
Almost all loans are fixed rate so higher interest rates don't affect sellers nearly as much as buyers. If I had to sell, I would consider underwriting the loan myself at ever so slightly under today's bank rates due to them being high enough to give me a nice rate of return. Then have the buyer have me on the insurance policy as a lienholder etc.
@@flyer617 done that and just did that on a commercial property to a veterinarian. Regardless shit is hitting the fan and the harder the better for all.
@@YamGarage that is why I said as long as debt is low…100% of my properties were bought pre 2015 and most bought before the 2008 crash. I’ll be fine, I’ll be buying, I’ll be giggling and I’ll be picking up cheap airplanes.

It's strange that the few airplanes you mention wouldnt be my first choice for a first airplane. An Icon A5? Bristell?

There isn’t a low price mass produced aircraft per se because of all the regulations and certifications required which drive up costs.

I bought my 2007 LSA in 2013 expecting to never see that money again. The plane has more than doubled in value since then which is just crazy.
If you buy a light sport make sure it has a parachute or you’ll be f up. Parachutes sell planes more everyday because they are proving their value.
They’ve dropped some in turbines and jet categories. Single engine market is still crazy
