At 40, as an engineer, I still choose not to have a LinkedIn profile. I prefer to keep my name completely off the internet, maintaining personal connections as I did 20 years ago. We live in a LinkedIn-driven era focused on fame, networking, and money, but that's not real life, it's just business. The façade, the online profile vs reality.
The problem is: are you really learning anything and retaining knowledge from watching a video? As opposed to doing some type of hands on learning or homework?
LinkedIn has gone the way of Facebook. Political arguments, never-ending narcissistic behavior from people just self-promoting how great they are, people just coping and pasting the same (usually horrible click bait) posts to get attention and you can't express actual opinions because people can't handle differing opinions, so like all social media and their algorithms; it's just an echo chamber.
LinkedIn might be the only social media site more cringe than Facebook. And it’s nowhere near as good of a job seeking tool as it used to be. I did have premium during my last job search, and being able to DM hiring managers got me some interviews. Funny enough, none of those worked out and the job that did was based on a personal recommendation and LinkedIn was zero part of the application process.
I had LI premium for over a year and didn’t get a single job prospect. Did not help me connect with anyone. Just a badge to tell everyone else I’m a fool. Absolutely zero value. Also, just read a report that over half of all job postings are fakes. Not real jobs that could lead to hiring. So it’s really a shitty value.
@@kenmorrisproducer yup same indeed got me job interviews. LinkedIn ZERO interviews same resume . LinkedIn is trash only for snooping on people who’s interviewing you
Have to disagree here. They jacked LinkedIn up from $148 a year to a whopping $239. In the year I was a member, while I enjoyed the AI tools it was not cost effective. 2 interviews out of 100s of resumes for jobs I am more than qualified is not a good batting average for LinkedIn. And yes, Bryan I did buy your resume writer package and tailored my resumes for each job submission. No LinkedIn isn’t worth it. All in all it’s a huge fail.
I know personally 3 people who got jobs by the old way... actually mailing the resume to the direct hiring manager, walking in and asking if their hiring and using an employee's referral benefit. Electronic communications have become over loaded.

I see your point and it's good advice, but I will say that my observation is that LinkedIn has only made it harder to get a job over the years. In tech, if you are applying for a role in Ireland (population of 5 mil), you have 100 to 1000 other applicants from all over the world for every posting. ATS is going to put you at the bottom of the list because a lot of those applicants are probably not being entirely truthful about their skills and experience. I don't look for work on LinkedIn anymore as the primary tool. So I definitely wouldn't pay for it for that reason. Instead, I would recommend applying to more local job sites if they're available to you. If they don't exist then yeah, linkedin is a lottery ticket.
I tried Premium a long time ago during a job search and Premium was no more useful than not having it. In fact I have received more recruiter reach outs not having Premium than when I had Premium.
Recruiters can still message you and then you can talk freely. You can still be seen. You can still apply for jobs. You can't directly talk with anyone you're not connected to. That's how it's always been from my memory.
I keep LinkedIn, just in case someone wants to message me. For example, lost wallet or something. Usually we changed phone numbers and cut off contacts with old work, when we changed jobs. Now its a 180 degree turn, you still mess around with old coworkers. Networking...
