that person probably doesnt know different places hold chopsticks differently. mostly because different places have different chopsticks. Some are heavier or metal or have squared edges. Different etiquette for placing chopsticks too. I just fold a napkin and use that to rest the end of my chopstick to keep it off the table.

I think the most common method is to hold one like a pencil and then lay one between your ring finger and thumb. If its right, you should be able to pick things up just by shifting the pencil holding part up and down. But I've seen people hold it in many different ways that work just as, if not better.
Think of all the opportunitys that you wouldnt even have to work for tho! Youd be getting checks in the mail for not working, schools would have special programs to get you in easier. Id trade seasoned food for that

They may have had some native american in them though, which depending on whether you agree with the scientific consensus or not (most native americans don't agree with scientific consensus) are technically asian. The one thing that i'm grateful for as a south-east asian, is that in my country we don't use chopsticks, i know how to but, in public settings where there are a lot of people, it's great to not have everyone stare at you for not knowing how to use two sticks to eat food
