wow you're a genius. This fix explains the bug more. I think the summoning circle event only has one script telling Avenus to move to the circle and it doesn't repeat. Because the pathing in this game is pretty bad it just gets messed up 9 times out of 10. Similar to when you tell a melee companion to attack something far away and it just stands there after you order it to move. By moving away from Avenus you remove the cluttered pathing of your party of companions and therefore he can walk freely.
I also have never commented on a UA-cam video, but this one deserves it. Thank you so much for the fix. This bug is so neglected within the community and no other fix has been worked for me except for this one.
@@kimmycheyenne No, Aragon is saying you get an infinite loop cutscene that you can't break out of. The uploader didn't get it, for some reason, but I was certainly getting it (with Possessed Dryden though).
2024. Wow… I must be really unlucky. This didn’t work for me. 😭 The quest icon doesn’t show up on the NPC I allied with, regardless of who it is, and running the opposite direction doesn’t work. Guess I’ll try going about the quest differently, maybe that will help. 😣 Edit: Since writing the above I chose the following options and this method finally worked. Kill Sofia then go speak to Avernus and he closes the veil. On PC. Thank you!

I was having real big problems with this quest right from the beginning; the quest-giver wasn't appearing, so I eventually had to use the dev console to "warp" my party to Soldier's Peak. After getting that far, it was very frustrating to then come across this summoning circle bug! I tried a lot of suggestions and your solution was the only thing that worked. And now SP even appears on the map. Cheers!

Just found this workaround thanks to the bug section on the quests's Dragon Age Wiki page and thanks for this since I never thought doing something so simple and well odd would fix this. This bug has never happened to me before now and I've played through Dragon Age at-least a good five times.

This was one of the more tedious bugs i couldnt seem to figuire out, so even in 2024, you have my thanks for such a simple and straightforward tutorial. Thank you!
This did not help me.......THIS DID NOT WORK!!! IT DID NOT WORK AT ALL!!!! I gave up and finally just started using the other tip which was an AOE spell/attack and had Shale chuck rocks at him until Avernus WAS TOSSED INTO THE FUCKING START POINT!!!
Another fix is to limit your FPS to 60, although sometimes a frame limit below 90 can resolve this area also but I have found it hit and miss where as 60fps works all the time.
2024 and this fix still doesn't work for some of us. Me included. Neither does reloading from a previous save, leaving to camp and returning, or saving right before he stops walking then loading that. Can't believe none of the patches fixed this bug.
It blows my mind that they patched the Duncan/exp exploit, but couldn't bother to fix this one. Way to screw us on both ends. Anyways, this worked and saved me from having to go a long long way back. Thank you very much!!!

yeah it replays, you go through the cutscene, and when it ends you run away from the old guy, and he'll go where is supposed to go

Didn't work for me, but if you have fireball, any knockback honestly, (or use respec mod) you can knock Avernus into the summoning spot.

I found you must also be in the closeup mode for this fix to work, trying this tactic from birdseye view doesnt work
