    Just wanted to push back on some of how you describe historical women's wear. Most women were not upper class and were expected to work all throughout history. The idea that western historical women's clothing shape is influenced by their exclusion from the workplace is deeply flawed. Additionally, it is important to recognize that hating corsets was popularized by victorian men who obviously know very little about how comfortable they were. The idea of corsets as anti-woman was largely a marketing campaign (a very successful one) to push "the modern woman" toward the brassiere.

      Thank you for the insight, i’m reflecting now and realized it was really foolish and inconsiderate to do research on a topic like this through mainly fashion oriented sources, very sorry about that. And i appreciate you not being rude as well🖤

    IMPORTANT COMMENT: I was gonna talk about David Bowie for a bit but copyright made me have to trim out the section sadly. What i said was that David Bowie became a fashion icon due to his Glam Rock presentation. Him and Mr. Fish put together outfits that were very flamboyant and colorful and often times incorporated women’s pieces and elements like makeup and feminine jewelry, androgynous by nature as he’s wearing things with feminine connotations as a man, fusion! And that inspired Hedi, yeah. hope you enjoy !

    Eating beans and rice while watching this 🍚 loved hearing your perspective and analysis! I’m non-binary and have been experimenting with how fashion, style, and aesthetics can obscure traditional notions of gender in my wardrobe. I especially love oversized, flowy, drapey pieces to achieve a morphing/transmutation of the human form. Awesome video 👏🏼

      Ah i love this! I do think that’s usually how it turns out looking, kind of like presenting yourself as a mass instead of a distinguishable shape. I’m glad my thoughts resonated with you, thank you!

      @@Dolcejeanz yes exactly! I'd rather be a wEirD blob than a normal shape 😂 I'm drawn to pieces that obscure reality and outside assumption. I wear a lot of black for that reason too - it feels less gendered and more open to interpretation/imagination than colors/patterns, which can have a kinda annoying amount of cultural conventions and norms, esp within gender performance and identity. Just wanna be a wtf/whoaaa-inducing, genderless blob lmao

    10:11 I think you need to do a deep dive in historical fashion because sometimes women didn't wear historically large hats neither corsets but like only higher class women wore those but like common women I don't think so

    I kinda couldn't enjoy this after your stance on corsets or your assertion that 16-19th century women did not work or actively enjoy fashion. It's just not true. Bustles were a trend formed out of women's enjoyment of fashion, men hated them, look up bustle parody cartoons, there were men so pressed about women's fashion trends they were publishing parody cartoons and scaremongering about women burning to death due to their copious layers.
    The crinoline was revolutionary for working women, allowing them to wear the fashionable silhouettes of their eras and actively work, factory workers and royalty wore crinolines. They're also really nice to wear in warm weather as they produce a nice updraft.
    Corsets themselves are incredible support garments and improve your posture quite nicely, especially important if you're a factory worker.
    Also women loved big hats. Men also fear-mongered about the big hats. No one was forcing people to wear big hats. There was significant scaremongering about women stabbing men with hatpins to the point several US cities enacted city ordinances that restricted the length of hat pins because women were using them as self defense tools.
    also slightly a stickler on this one, but the fabric in peasants' clothing was not cheap, in fact clothing was usually the most expensive thing an average lower class person owned pre 18th century, because fabric manufacturing is a nightmare, and we are spoiled in the contemporary era. It was also more likely to be higher quality than the average high street shop is selling today, because these people loved their clothes and put 1,000s of hours into the creation of a single garment.

      I do realize now that my methods of research were really flawed and not optimal because they were from a fashion observer’s perspective , and not an actual women’s history background, i’m sorry about that. Thank you for all this insight, I’ll try to do better next time when speaking about fashion history and clothing in general🖤

    I’m curious about why you didn’t want to talk about Yohji in this video?

    • @Dolcejeanz
      @Dolcejeanz  3 дні тому +5

      I didn’t really wanna talk about too many of the common names in the androgyny conversation in fashion, i felt like it was too obvious to talk about rei and yohji, but i decided rei is more of a must have to be honest

    Do you always see the world through braids over your eyes ? And the video was very informative, especially since I hate androgynous/non binary fashion. I still do, but I understand it a bit better now.
