      So true! Jefferson had a formula for dealing with that variety of scum. I believe he called it the tree of liberty.

    Wow - the aesthetic difference is immediate! I hope it helps over time with the actual algae accumulation.

    I’m going to try this. We’ve only had like 3-4 70° days and my pond floor algae is already growing in Iowa. I tried copper sulfate last year and it worked a little. I need to stock fish as well

    I regularly use Bioverse Natural Blast pond cleaner with great success but the final product was never the right “look.”
    Flash forward 14yrs and I’m dyeing my pond vivid blue tomorrow.
    Will report back.

    How cool, you have your own pond on your property. The dye is drinkable? Thinking about SHTF.

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Yes it's safe to drink. Part of the reason we did this was to develop this pond into a shtf emergency water supply. Reducing the algae/scum should make it easier to filter/boil/consume. At least that's the plan.

      @@TheHandsOnChannel Very good. It's a beautiful pond. I hope it doesn't come down to that, but you never know. You are very smart and resourceful.

    Beautiful pond. You are blessed. I have a small spring fed concrete pond. I have to keep it drained because of green algae. I don't think this will work since the water is continuously draining as the spring flows into it. It might if I added a little every week or so. Definitely will look into it. Thanks for the info.

      Thank you and depending on how fast your water is coming/going that might work. It's worth a try, good luck.

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  3 роки тому +1

      I had never heard of it either. He said it helps reduce weeds/algae blooms that will rob your pond of oxygen. Should help the fish population.

      @@TheHandsOnChannel Well if that works as good as he said it is great and i agree with you it would help the fish population.

      @@TheHandsOnChannel we had a big problem with algae blooms and the dye took care of it. my lake has a drain that keeps water level fairly constant unless there is a drought. i sometimes lose a little of the dye yes that way

    Alge bloom is natural. Cant imagine a quart of something works in that big of a pond. Might not be good for the aquatic if it does.

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  3 роки тому

      Out here algae can take over a pond in short order. I want to make it a clean as possible for future shtf drinking water supply and possible swimming hole. From my research it is beneficial to aquatic life because the algae consumes oxygen.
