I use half as much blue as directed then add a concentrated black dye. Looks a lot more natural.
That's a pretty good idea. May have to try that!
I can understand utilizing the dye for the purposes that it’s used for. I just want to make mention that there are options out there to do the same thing it just takes longer than it takes a little bit of hard work. Aquatic plants and trees have the ability to cool and keep the water clean, they can even help with the watershed depth. Bokashi balls, EM1, SLAB, are for the natural remedies of algae and clearing the water.
I sure liked swimming in it. Better than my crappy pond. Good info!
Come back any time! And I think you misspelled 'crappie' 🤣🤣. Yours will be on its way with the air!
Send some of that rain this way. Pond looks great
Thanks brother! Been crazy wet summer here. A cool 98 degrees today. Queue old boy band songs! Haha. Pond not coming up over there?
I think you have the best lake on UA-cam.
Wow! That's certainly a statement! I'm sure some may disagree, but I'll take it! Thank you!
Nice video. Does the dye affect your air system at all?
Thanks. No, it doesn't/hasn't.
Oh boy, science. As hot as it has been here in central Indiana, all I want to do is jump in and stay there. LOL.
It's definitely toasty!! Sad part is that this may be the last good opportunity for the year to get in! Going to drop off soon!
What dye you using to get that ocean blue look? I am using the FarmWorks (Tractor Supply) 2.5 gallon blue and it just turns an emerald green color. It looks good, but wanting more this Caribbean blue look.
Hey Jason, actually, that's exactly what I use! I have had great luck with it. How big/deep is your pond again? Two things to consider. 1. Do you have an aerator? It could be dropping to the bottom and not being mixed properly. 2. Is this your first treatment? May have to "load up". I typically dose about 3 times a year and it keeps it looking nice!
@@IndyFarmLife 2.5 acre and 20' at the deepest, I use (2) 2.5 gallon jugs when I treat it. Yes, have an aerator with two pads. Last year and this year just cannot get that blue color, depressing.
Yours is definitely bigger than ours. Have you had a lot of inflow/outflow? Ours doesn't have much inflow and zero outflow other than evaporation. If I remember from the live, you are down south right. PC.
Needs a bit of green to look more natural
Very pretty
I never liked the Blue color so much, as it clashed with the green of surrounding vegetation. This year I used blue-black and black (TSC) and the pond hasn't looked so natural since I moved here in 2001. 4 ac and avg depth of 5 or 6 ft. No inflow or outflow and two gallons of dye every April is just barely enough. With aeration now I pour in more bacteria, say 3 gal 2x/yr.. With lots of leaf litter I need to keep o'all fertility down. Yes, as said in the video use all three!
Where do you procure these dyes from?
We manufacture this here in India. Let me know if you need can offer at very good price
does it kill the fish that are already in it ?
Nope! It's perfectly safe for fish and all wildlife.
How deep is your pond?
About 25ft in the deepest spot when full. I would say 20ft avg
Does the blue dye turn green when the dye wears off
I will dilute out over time, but turning green is a sign of more algae. Gotta aerate and add bacteria to keep down o'all fertility, what algae feeds on.
I never knew pond dye was a thing until I saw it on your channel. Around here the water is too hot and swimming is risky with the brain eating amoeba.
Yea, it makes a huge difference! Nevermind the gators down there too! ha
@@IndyFarmLife Good point! If I had a pond with a gator in it, the kitchen would be its next home.
Haha dinners served!
@@IndyFarmLifeWe swim and wakeboard down here on Caddo lake with gators. Never had a issue with anyone getting eaten. But there is no feeling like the one when you fall off and sitting in the water waiting for the boat to swing back around.
What kind of fish do you have?
Bluefin
Largemouth bass, striped bass, blue gill, hybrid blue gill, red ear, channel cat, and some grass carp. Here is the video of when we stocked it.

Blue balls if you stand waist deep long enough.
Ha maybe! Was 85 degrees two weeks ago!
Try swimming in Lake Superior or at the Lake Michigan beach in Chicago. My limit in either is about knee deep and not for long. lol
Yeah it's look nice but the fish die if the pond dye
Not true. My fish are thriving!
yup, I just added 2 gallons.
Nice! Hopefully IN the pond and not ON you. ha
Exactly, I had that happen. @@IndyFarmLife
Adam, are you still using FarmWorks Blue? I was going to try that brand. @@IndyFarmLife
Murrica... Fake it till u make it. 🤢🤮
