Finally watched Boogie Nights for the first time yesterday. Great video! PTA has quickly become one of my favorite modern directors if not my favorite.
I like the way he treats the 70s and 80s as characters in the film. Also how he shows the consequences of excess. In the 70s, there was an attitude of why should the party ever stop?
Boogie Nights like for a lot of people was my first PTA film and probably my favourite! It’s amazing how he went from this to really diverse and thought-provoking films like Magnolia, There Will Be Blood (his best film), The Master and so many others! Here he was riding his influences in Scorsese et. al but still made an all-time classic as he needed something familiar to launch himself and find his own voice in cinema which his later films have delivered on beautifully!
Boogie Nights is like a small colony of B list hustlers...Their world is sleazy and cruel ..Just the same you care about the characters and that is critical ......................................................................................................................
Great analysis of one of my favourite films. Now all we need is a 4K UHD release of this masterpiece
A good hangout movie, I like that.
