Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer, today on our 2024 Hyundai Tucson. We're gonna be showing you how to install the etrailer.com trailer hitch receiver. Before we do that though, let's just take a minute, check this out and make sure it's gonna be the right hitch for you. So when it comes to the Tucson, you know people will use these SUVs to do a lot of different things, pulling trailers around, using accessories, or even a little bit of both, and to help you get that done, that's where a trailer hitch like this one is going to come into play. Compared to some of the other hitches available, they're all gonna be extremely similar in terms of their functionality and what you're gonna be able to do with them. Even the appearance of all of 'em is gonna be pretty similar.
They're gonna sit in the same general area and really just be able to see the receiver tube opening. The main difference between 'em is gonna come down to the finish. So the etrailer one, this is probably my favorite. I like the matte black style finish. I think it looks a little more modern and more factory, really because it almost matches the plastic here on our bumper almost perfectly.
But that's just my opinion and my taste, the CURT hitch that's available, that has a full gloss black powder coat finish and the Draw-Tite is going to be somewhere in the middle there, almost a a semi-gloss finish. This is gonna have a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is a good thing 'cause that is a super common size. So a lot of stuff will work with it. It's going to use the standard 5/8th pin and clip. One doesn't come with the hitch.
If you need one, not a huge deal. You can always grab it here at etrailer. A lot of times too, if you end up buying a new accessory, they'll come with one. So something to look out for there. The safety chain openings are a loop style, and they're big enough to let us use pretty much any size hook that our trailer might have on it.
When it comes to the weight capacities, the hitch is gonna have a 525 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating. So that's the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch, and it's a pretty high number so you should be able to use just about any size bike rack or cargo carrier. To give you an example there. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 3,500 pounds or the amount of weight that is pulling on the hitch. So that is the weight of your trailer plus anything you might have enter on it. I do always like to recommend though it's always a good idea just to grab your SUV's owner's manual. That way you can check in there and make sure that your Hyundai can handle that much weight safely. We'll grab a couple measurements now, and these will help us figure out what type of accessories are gonna work best. If you go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, that's gonna be about 15 and a half inches. So pretty good ground clearance. And for those of you that are pulling a trailer, probably use a ball mount that has a straight shank or maybe even one with a slight rise in it, inch or so will probably work well in most scenarios. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about five inches, and you can use that to help figure out exactly if any of those folding style accessories you might have can be stored in that upright position without hitting the back of your Tucson. We do get some people wondering if this hitch is gonna be compatible with the hybrid models, and the answer is yes. Perfect example today, we've got the hybrid, went up just fine. It'll also worked with the standard gas models as well, so should be in pretty good shape there. But other than that, at the end of the day, if it we inchesre me, this would be the hitch I would go with. I just like the finish. I think it looks the best, and I've had good experience with these etrailer hitches continuing to look good even after years of use. So I really can't ask for too much more. As far as the installation goes on this, it's really not too bad at all. You have a couple of small plastic panels you drop down, not a big deal. And more or less a hitch just bolts right up into place so shouldn't really take up a bunch of your time or give you too many issues. With that in mind though, I get, life is busy, and you might not have time to mess around with this and install it yourself or just not want to even bother with it at all, and that's definitely understandable. So if that's what you're th

    The washers are belleville washers

Good call. They are a type of Belleville washer, only the ones used to install the hitch have teeth on on them to prevent them from spinning while being tightened.
