No fire proof gloves. Takes one small fire and you're screwed for life. Don't skimp on fire safety.

As a driver, I can understand why he didn't have gloves on. I never liked running them, but I did. Never could drive as good with them on, but still ran with them on. When I moved up the late models, I was surprised that window nets weren't mandatory and no one ran them. HANS type devices were optional, with like a 50 or 100 pound weight break if you had one. The thing of it is, who is going to police having it hooked up correctly once you get on the track? There was a driver got killed at Eldora this year that had a HANS, but didn't have the tethers hooked up. At the end of the day, drivers tend to do what's comfortable, with the "it won't happen to me" mentality. Times I wish I was still running, but most of the time I thank God I got out of it with the only thing it costing me was money. Stay safe drivers.

Some tracks allow arm restraints instead of window nets. As for the gloves. I couldn't feel my tear offs so I hated them....til I got hit in the fingers by a few good size rocks. Then I learned to deal them
Fold the tab of your tear off forward, then cover it with the next one. That way there is only 1 tab to grab.

@@bulfn7338 what track was this?when I lived near Maryville I used to go to Atomic whe it was open.and my ex father in law lived about 5 miles from Smokey Mtn.was to 411 once.and qhat was that big ass 5/8 or so that was just to damn big for everyone?down by Sweetwater. Was there once but they ran the inside track

I knew a guy that didn't wear gloves, until he got an oil leak one race and burnt his hands so bad that he was in hospital for two days and couldn't work for TWO months and three surgeries later! He wears gloves now!
Out of this whole video you guys are worried about gloves!
Helluva ride
I always cringe when I see videos like this, as I myself am a dirt track racer. But the crazy thing that I always seem to see is that the driver may not have a neck restraint or even a pair of gloves. I know in many parts of the country these things are uncommon for guys to use but it's such a scary situation to put yourself in. Glad to see the driver is okay as that crash could have been a lot worse.
My dad use to work on a racetrack when i was 7 i had a clone motor in my car i also had a late model mini I have been on 2 wheels in them cars and broke my arm I was 5 when i flipped some 12 year old

im with you on that. here in Bakersfield its mandatory that you have gloves and some kind of neck restraint
I'm from upstate New York and a neck restraint isn't mandatory which is sad. But a lot of our racers venture to New Jersey for big races and in jersey the police control the safety at race tracks which make a HANS device or something equivalent totally mandatory.

Good to see the cage did it's job allowing the driver to walk away. Hate to see tore up race cars though, innumerable hours & $$$ invested just to get to the track. Hope he's back in the seat!!
On those garden sheds a visit to the local sheet alloy store will fix most of it. Though R/Rs should never come off though it seemed the hub broke.
As for gloves and HANS? Gloves are mandatory everywhere but HANS is something many series are inflicting on compeitors.In that roll over a neck brace would have helped but HANS would have done NOTHING. A HANS is an advantage only in straight on crashes. And the simple foam neckbrace is quite good in that as well.
Window nets occasionally help but those webbing ones really annoy in your periphial vision. And arm restraints worn 'properly' are pure dangerous. As they get tangled in your arms when you cross hands.
And I drive both ovals and road race.

It's I-75 Not Wartburg and this driver is a small guy his hands are really small with gloves on it's real hard for him to unlatch his harness so it's kind of safer without him because he can get out of the car faster. plus alot of ppl go without gloves. if he doesnt affect u. then stop whining ppl.
