I'm a big Data East fan but that probably won't be a surprise you because there's plenty of jank to be had here ;-) I still think it's a fun cart and there's enough here to justify the purchase. If you've just got yourself a shiny new Alpha, then this cart will get your game count off to a running start. Keep up the awesome work!
I knew since the announcement of this cart that I would hold off and wait to see some reviews first before even considering buying it. I'm so glad that I did.
I think sometimes we demand too much. Here there are 12 games on a physical cartridge for 18 or 19 euros. That's a little more than 1 euro per game. In digital stores like Steam or PlayStation Store they sell (rent) retro games for 8 or 9 euros, and they are never going to be yours. There are very good titles on this cartridge, like Edward Randy, Joe & Mac Returns, Midnight Resistance or Super Burger TIme, and some classic like Express Raider. Yes, the games could be better, but being a physical cartridge at that price, just for those 3 or 4 games it's worth it. I'm going to buy it, along with Toaplan Arcade 3 and 4.
It's crazy that we still don't have dip switches. Two years after they were reported to release. I genuinely don't think they can implement it, or else, why wouldn't they? I so want to be wrong. Like you say many of the arcade games across all collections are just a tedious struggle. No fun to be had. But toned down, incredibly fun.
I had a multi cartridge on my NES as a kid and one of the games was the Famicom version of B-Wings, it was one of my favourite games on the cart and I personally feel it is better than the arcade version. It is one of those games that needs you to learn every little detail and strategy that each wing type offers, once you got that it can be fun but in the arcade you don't really get the time to fully learn all of it's little quirks.
Thanks for the video! Love catching up on latest releases. I used to collect every cart. Had around 40 and bailed. Sold the lot and bought a steam deck (made decent ££ as many carts were no longer available). Never looked back as SD is ace but like to keep an eye on what’s new. This one looks v mediocre. Thing is, I would have bought it regardless as completions in me had to! Evercade know this. Those little numbers on the spine are marketing genius.
Yeah it's very mixed. I managed to play through most of midnight resistance, but it's one of those games I've beaten a lot over the years on numerous systems. wasn't keen on the controls. Ice cream factory SUUUUUCCCKS come back beast wrestler all is forgiven.
The thing with the evercade carts is that there is usually one or two games on each cart that you want. So you end up buying them all and now and then find a hidden gem. I have to say the emulation is pretty good. They sure seem to get the emulation right, let’s hope they start getting the hardware right 😆
Joe & Mac is more Tumblepop goodness, Last Mission gets us some Time Pilot esque shooting action finally, Edward Randy is Sly Spy type cinematic spectacle writ even larger, B-Wings has a cool mechanic rarely seen outside of Slap Fight, Shoot Out is full of fun details and easter eggs, and Trio the Punch is legendary among certain people. Those are the ones I am most excited for. A better looking and smoother running rerun of Two Crude Dudes is cool, especially once we get dipswitches, but Midnight Resistance was better suited for Evercade in the home version. SRD and Express Raider have neat ideas but aren't very fun. The Burgertime sequels were ill advised overall and aren't a patch on the original. (Your favorite Burgertime, I guarantee, will be Deluxe, which I hope we get on DE Console 2 in the near future.)
This collection is worth it for Edward Randy alone. That is an absolute classic, and a rare title. Sadly I cannot comment on the collection as Amazon fucked me over and don't have any stock to fulfill my pre order.
I really only bought this one for Last Mission because I had it on the C64. I've been playing it on the Arc D and it loads in full screen. It plays very well in that ratio imo so not really necessary to play it in TATE. I didn't find it too frustrating.
I bought the older Data East Collection 1 cartridge over this, and I think that one is really good! 👍. From the look of your review. I think I made the wright decision! 🤔. But that Edward Randy game looks crazy good! 😊. Still not sure that ONE great game is worth buying an average collection for though?! 🤔
From what I gather it’s the mega drive version? Or is that in another cart 🤔 as this is the arcade cart series Sometimes I wish they would specify exactly which versions come on all the carts but I wonder if there is some reason they don’t.
@JediSlayerLord OK, probably shouldn't be too bad. Though older games can look more blockier when played on larger tvs. Ideally you want to play on smaller TV or monitor. The quality will vary depending on which game you play too.
@@CrazyBurger Yeah,it can be hard to do,I leave it till the last millisecond to jump. That way you can even avoid the machine gun fire from the cars. It's a solid game thats for sure but with many little secrets you can use to gain extra points and kill the baddies.
It very easy to dismiss games you're rubbish at and not learning how to play properly as frustrating and rubbish. In your world something like Ghosts n'Goblins (one of the best ever) is probably a nightmare for you.
I'm looking forward to this one. Love midnight resistance and 2 crude dudes

This is a great point. There are easily five games worth four dollars a piece here for almost any game lover.
It looks like this could have used some more playtime before the review. There were a number of games you didn't seem to have figured out.

Ever add really needs to allow you to access the dip switches.
Did I see the game Super BurgerTime? What about Crazy Burger Time?😁
Lol coming soon!
Can I just ask, how you display your game? When I use Vs seem more pixelated yours are smooth graphics , doesn't matter what filter on Vs I use?

Shame evercade don't use RetroArch as emulator filters are awesome for retro games.

I can not understand why they make the arcade games so difficult
They don’t make them.. they are difficult because that’s the difficulty when they port them. And arcade games were made to eat your coins 😂
