I totally agree with your final thoughts. This little machine is a beast for video. 4K 60p 10-bit, with IBIS and dual card slot for only 1500USD? There's nothing like it anywhere. It has top notch autofocus and its APS-C with an RF-mount, which means you can basically adapt any lens you want to it. Imagine how much of your budget is left for great lenses, lights, mics, and more. The production value of this camera is insane.
I just got the R7 and after all my research, most of what I find is wildlife footage tips and tricks. I’m right there with you in wishing there were more cinematic footage example videos. I feel like the R7 is capable of much much more when it comes to professional looking video. Great video though!
I use the R7 and I dont shoot many birds. been using the camera since it came out. Im sticking with 4K Fine at 30fps, I do like 24 but I usually have my Rec 709 instead of cinema gamut, i dont have the correct conversion and ive noticed some problems grading it too.
This is an enthusiast tier camera body and having the incredible reach with a telephoto lens, it gives like a cropped equivalent of 85mp full frame body which is unmatched at this price point on a mirrorless body. For technical astrophotography and macro photography, the next best you can get is a 4-5 times more expensive 102mp fujifilm full frame. Which offers about 20% more pixel density. And it can shoot nice videos, if you set up the shutter speed of the 23.98 4k fine mode to 1/50, motion will look neutral unless you move the body or you're shooting a very fast moving subject, you won't have rolling shutter issues, For more motion blur effect you cen set the shutter speed to 1/25 and it'll create a nice artistic motion blur. For high detailed sharp videos in action, increase the shutter speed to 1/100 so the frames will be sharp but it'll feel jittery. I'd use a 1.8 or 1.4 35mm lens with IS and IBIS on for video and portrait & landscape photography.
So I’m really thinking about getting this camera. I mainly shoot music video type/dancing videos and am planning to move on from my 80 D. Any thoughts?
The line skipping Problem was an issue 13 years ago with the first EOS 7D what happend was kind of an anti aliasing problem. When i used magic lantern, a modifed firmware which made it possible to shoot in a cropped mode, the video was better.
Interesting thoughts. I have been entertaining the idea of getting an r7 as the b-cam to my r5, some days I feel like it's a great idea and some days I think it is a better idea to spend the extra cash and get an r6ii- or really going big and adding an r5c or r3 (in case I feel like remortgaging my house to pay for another camera lol). I have watched an endless amount of "reviews" on the r7 and you are the first I have come across that mentions the rolling shutter and issues grading 4k60. At the end of the day, I think all cameras have their idiosyncrasies. The r6ii only shoots in IPB (no ALL-I) and can only do 6k raw to an external recorder. The r3 is only 24 megapixels and $6000, while the r5c is $4500 and chews through batteries and spits them out like gum. When you look at all the options out there, I think the r7 is a really fantastic "bang for buck" camera, regardless of a few imperfections. I've learned there is no perfect camera, and never will be, because that is how companies get you to buy the next one. I think all you can do is get the best camera for your situation at any given time, and work with the good and bad of it- as long as you understand what you are getting and the limitations you will need to work with.
I been debating between r6II and r7 this has pushed me over to r6. To many games with the r7 interms of 4K not to mention speed boosting would throw another factor in.
hello my friend first congratulations for the video. i have a canon R 7 i love it .too. however a doubt I always have about the 8 bits and the 10 bits. and it's true that when we activate the HDR then yes we are in 10 bits. with it disabled do we record in 8 bits? if you can help us thank you. a big hug from BRAZIL . IT COST
Hey man, just got this camera and been watching videos about it. Stumbled across yours. I tested the 4K60p, in davinci it says the file is h.265 4:2:2 10 bit. So I guess it must be something else. Another thing I noticed is that it says the audio but depth is 32, but I can’t find anywhere online that says the R7 has 32 bit audio. So now I’m kinda thinking of davinci is reading the metadata right lol
The „normal“ 4K is oversampled. This is the normal 4K 25 and 4K 60. the cropped 4K 60 is regular 4K. 10 bit you just get when you are shooting C-Log 4K Fine. I have the R7 myself, just for UA-cam, no c-log at all and it’s alright for me. But maybe you should check out the Sony fx30 as it offers more flexibility for more professional stuff. Cheers Oh, autofocus: I shoot with studio light and have no issues but in low light it does struggle. By the way, I shoot like 90% video with it.
What ISO did you use? Because the footage has the most dynamic range at an ISO of 800 (when I remember correctly)... Maybe that made the difference in your color grading...
Canon did't put out a camera able to downsample 7k to 4k to let one shoot birds, but to let another on talk on camera about in camera recording modes to let me fool watch the whole thing :D

On my r7 binge watch stage. Trying to put a lid on my GAS addiction. Thanks for raising some interesting issues.

The Canon R7 is everything I wanted the Canon 90D and Canon 80D to be

R6ii all the way but the r7 isn’t bad . There’s just no contest between the two

Would you say the 4K 60 line skip mode is usable or should I be stressing about switching between that and the crop mode
It’s a bit noisy but in controlled lighting it should be good.

I think it has to do with how the camera does 4k60 in general. The R7 is really a 24/30p camera for video work.
I have R6 mark2, does it give similar results when shooting 4k 60fps video? can r7 shoot 4k 60fps without cropping?
Interesting analysis brochacho 🖖
Thanks bro!
This is not a dedicated video camera or a vlogging camera. The R7 is a crop sensor hybrid camera...
Good call
Great content man 👏🏻👏🏻 keep it up 👏🏻
Thanks you!
SO SHOULD I BUY R7
If it’s got the quality you need. It will definitely get the job done . It looks great

I’m doing my best to understand this comment. Good point.
