I don't know why, but your videos are the only ones I can watch entirely without getting bored (and I have quite a short attention span), they're interesting and super entertaining! I'm so glad I found your channel :)
Holy crap, every time I watch any of your videos, I just get SO inspired! I've always been discouraged about my art, and have signed off on thinking I could do a lot of things (such as digital painting) because I just had no idea where to even begin but you make it seem extremely doable On top of that, you always have an insane amount of great tips and advice for improving our art, needless to say I'm very grateful for your videos :)
Hey, Boro. I just want to thank you for all the tutorials that you have put out. It has really helped me with my art and I have improved tremendously, using your tips. You are truly a star in the art community. In stead of asking money on Skillshare etc for your teachings, you are soooo generous and have put it out for free on UA-cam, where people like me (Who can't spend a lot money) can access it and learn. I am 16 and thanks to you, my art is almost on a professional level and you have inspired me to follow art as a career. You have changed my life in a way that nobody else has and I am truly thankful! BTW: No-silhouette master race! Heil Boro!
That color abstraction Boro talks about, is really just what artists do to express themselves, you don't need a program with color dynamics to achieve something close to that! You just need to keep in mind to have overall the same brightness in the color, but you can really go crazy with it. Even having some spots of green, blue, purple and whatever you want on a red cube. I suggest you to also look up Marco bucci to learn more about how traditional artists go about their drawings, and follow both borodante's and bucci's lessons!
Hi Borodante! Thank you! Thank You! Thank you! As a traditional artist making the leap into digital art, and being frustrated by my "non-artistic" results, your tutorials are re-aligning my thoughts and workflow back to making art.
The initial brush with the color variation is very good-looking. You're right; it's good-looking just with a few strokes. What separates impressionism from naturalism? What would you call the two paintings (of girls), stylistically?
Both are realism, though, the lady in the grass, at least the grass is a bit impressionistic. The painter is trying to capture the subject for sure, which is realism, whereas the impressionist is trying to capture the mood. Photorealism is something I've never liked. Someone said painterly, and yes, but Rembrandt and John Singer Sargent painted realism, yet that form of realism can also be classified as painterly. I don't think painterly is really a movement like realism and impressionism.
Your videos are so cool, they help me to understand how painting works and other things and I just wanted to say thank you (English is not my mother tongue, but I can understand everything you say and it makes me happy hahahh)
I love your videos! I always feel unmotivated to draw, but now I think I'll just play your videos in front of me and draw while watching you. It's like listening to podcast, some people can't work without listening to someone speak. Keep drawing and speaking! :D
Your videos are my new addiction, very helpful and even more entertaining. And from this point I can say: yes, I am not defining what I don't know yet ;)
I'm really glad that you didn't come old way of showing how to simplify reality by showing works of Zorn or Sargent and found another magnificent artist instead. Keep it that way! :-)
OMG... You"re a god, and you scare me a little bit. (I had this questions about defining, grass and all what you tell in this video, like 24 hours ago) That's huge, it will make my environnement paintings waaaaay better, thanks Boro ! Bye =)
So, I searched a bit and couldn't find this. Can you upload a screenshot somewhere of what your brush settings panel looks like? I'm getting started on Paintstorm Studio and there's just a lot of small tweaks you can do to it, so having a good starting point would be nice. :) Continue with the good work btw Boro, you're awesome.
Boro can you do a tutorial on how to make a painting less flat? As in how to give a painting interesting perspective and angles to add more depth to it.
Hey there! (TUTORIAL FOR THIS COLOR DIVERSITY EFFECT THING) For every one who wants to know how this thing works, here a lil tutorial: -select a brush -open the color tab -there are some bars with a H, S and B next to it You can edit this values by clicking on the number on the right side next to the bar Borodante uses this values: -H: 6.63 -S: 4 -B: 2 -the final step: click on the button next to H, in default options there is a square click on it and activate random with a range of 100, selecr rand stroke and diselect rand points. Repeat this for S and B. done! You can set your Bristle diversity on 2.16 if you like, Borodante is using this value in the video too. ~Tom
You should use the other camera as main camera and the current main camera as back camera, that camera you keep for back shots looks much better to me.
Hi Boro! This is gold! Pure gold! Do you think the idea of roughly defining shapes that are not focal points of the image also applies to drawing and sketching, or is this just applicable to painting? Also, I made a comment on one of your last videos, don't think you saw it... was about a japanese art program called Open Canvas. Have you tried it before?
Hi Boro... so in a nutshell what you are describing is an impressionistic approach to painting. I've always said you were a "Painter", especially someone who works in just a few layers building the painting as you go. Back in the late 70's when I started to get serious about my painting I tried to be more photo-realistic in style, as I was painting traditionally with an airbrush. Some of that work can be seen here: johncolladoart.com . That style of painting was done differently from how an impressionist would paint, as I would work in transparent layers utilizing my lights and highlights from the actual canvas surface. I painted many years that way until I entered the digital age, and even then I would continue with that process when I worked. For the past few years , as with most artists, I've tried to improve and learn new ways... which brings me to your videos and today's subject. I have been watching your videos for over a year now and have been picking up new ways to paint (in your style), specifically in what you described today. And what I like about your videos is your way of teaching that actually makes me understand your process. I watch a lot of other artist's videos here on youtube, and a few of them honestly do not know how to teach, or make the process understandable. Like most artists, I'm constantly learning and your painterly style has been an enjoyable addition to that process. Back in the day I never considered myself a painter, just a copy machine that painted what he saw. I'd like to think today that I'm evolving and becoming more of a painter, just like you described today. Definitely a good video and I hope other artists grasp the information that you offered today. Looking forward to your next video.
Hey man! Thank you for the work you're doing. It's awesome. I like the canvas style brushes you're using here. Do you know anything of this sorts for procreate? Thank you advance for your reply.
I agree that sometimes you do have to use a more impressionistic style to imply something when all you're really doing is providing a basis for the viewer to fill in with their imagination. And this is a easier method to use if you're not exactly sure how to paint something. But if you completely rely on this method you'll have a harder time improving on form and composition. Even in impressionism the artists still used composition and form to convey the image they wanted the viewer to see. If you don't your piece will probably come out looking jumbled and/or unbalanced in the end. And of course this style of doing art can be combined with other styles as well. If you look at paintings by such artist as Boris Vallejo you'll see that the key figure is well defined while the backgrounds are more impressionistic in composition. This is done even more so in such works as those done by Frank Frazetta, one of my idols. So, imop, you can achieve some very interesting effects when you combine styles and techniques, such as the one you described ;-)
With each tutorial, with each explanation I get more and more close to buying a tablet. I need to calm down, otherwise guess who's not eating for a couple weeks to get one?
Uh Yes check out wacom mobilestudio pro. you better grab firmly onto your wallet before it tries to rip its way out of your backpocket and flee someplace else where nobody is gonna try to spend its content so brutally. 😂
This channel is my mental support
Same for me.
I wish I can retweet this😭

what if i want to paint *something*
Well two days ago he made a video that you have to "learn to paint before learning to paint SOMETHING" so ua-cam.com/video/NHRKPyGfO30/v-deo.html lmao
@Borodante your sarcasm is so sincere!
can you make a tutorial of painting a human face (especially a child) ?
That color abstraction Boro talks about, is really just what artists do to express themselves, you don't need a program with color dynamics to achieve something close to that! Hi Borodante! Thank you! Thank You! Thank you! As a traditional artist making the leap into digital art, and being frustrated by my "non-artistic" results, your tutorials are re-aligning my thoughts and workflow back to making art.
New drinking game: Take a shot every time boro says what-not, abstraction, and stroke
excellent vid, such a great way to show such a important aspect of painting
Really interesting and unconventional tutorial. Really needed something like that in my life :D
The initial brush with the color variation is very good-looking. You're right; it's good-looking just with a few strokes. What separates impressionism from naturalism? What would you call the two paintings (of girls), stylistically?

"The viewer knows what the things shouldn't look like and that's the moment when you fail..." Borodante 2017 -
Really nice video.
I love your videos! I always feel unmotivated to draw, but now I think I'll just play your videos in front of me and draw while watching you. It's like listening to podcast, some people can't work without listening to someone speak. Keep drawing and speaking! :D
Wow I Learned more in this video than I did in one 4 hour art class! Sweet, thanks dude!
this is your best and most helpful tutorial so far ... for me at least

I would also appreciate that. I was looking for his brush set up, but couldn't see anything select on the panel lol
Boro can you do a tutorial on how to make a painting less flat? As in how to give a painting interesting perspective and angles to add more depth to it.
Hey there! (TUTORIAL FOR THIS COLOR DIVERSITY EFFECT THING)
For every one who wants to know how this thing works, here a lil tutorial:
-select a brush
-open the color tab
-there are some bars with a H, S and B next to it
You can edit this values by clicking on the number on the right side next to the bar
Borodante uses this values:
-H: 6.63
-S: 4
-B: 2
-the final step: click on the button next to H, in default options there is a square
click on it and activate random with a range of 100, selecr rand stroke and diselect rand points.
Repeat this for S and B.
done! You can set your Bristle diversity on 2.16 if you like, Borodante is using this value in the video too.

Are you planning on making more silent sessions I really enjoyed them.
Painting nothing is really easy, just select the eraser and go at it.
razvy bighiu Your comment made me lol!

Hey Boro, could you make a tutorial about your brush settings in paintstorm please? I would appreciate that. Thanks, man
Hey man! Thank you for the work you're doing. It's awesome. I like the canvas style brushes you're using here. Do you know anything of this sorts for procreate?
Thank you advance for your reply.
This was a real gud tip. Thanks
Could you do a video of painting something with actual paint?
Chroma Spark he's talked about how he doesn't create traditional art so that may be unlikely.

I love all your videos! ♥♥♥
Hey Borodante, do you have any "simple" tricks, methods to make steel look more steel-ish, glass more glass-ish and water more water-ish?
I have returned after about 7 months and there is a new mic. :0 Things have changed.
"Don't define what you don't know!"
Thank you.

wow really good advice! thank you :)
You're a fucking genius
How do you start blurring things without changing to a blur brush?
What do you think the best digital program is for an old anime style is? (Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Trigun etc.)
With each tutorial, with each explanation I get more and more close to buying a tablet.
I need to calm down, otherwise guess who's not eating for a couple weeks to get one?
Do you mind sharing your brush settings in paintstorm studio?? its not in your patreon page ^_^
Borodante is the Alton Brown of digital painting.
It's a minecraft carrot :D
Where did you purchase that tablet I heckin want that tablet man it's great
Uh Yes check out wacom mobilestudio pro.
you better grab firmly onto your wallet before it tries to rip its way out of your backpocket and flee someplace else where nobody is gonna try to spend its content so brutally. 😂
We suppose not define what we don't know, so what if we are using a reference to paint?
Did he ever did an tutorial on the colour dynamics? x.x
man you're funny.Meaning smart.
It's so weird thinking that a painting is nothing but a bunch of paint splotches, and yet our brain perceives life, and emotion.
gawd, I just read BROSCHOOL :D
anyway, love this school-thing (bro or boro). Visualizing your epic mental images is like the hardest thing ever :'D
ok but how DO you get that random color every now and then in the brush. what is the magic setting in paintbrush :'(
which tablet monitor are you using here please @BoroCG
Thanks for the video! .. what's the software you're using?
4:05 Paintstorm Studio
That was excellent. Thank you!
What's the name of this brush you used and can it be created in Medibang Paint for Android?
Cro in the background ?
Totally looks like a super square carrot as soon as that grass was added.
ha I love the 2 finger glove! can you moonwalk too! lol
You should check out Marco Bucci , you will love his work. Awesome video btw :3
So you're an impressionist!
You should do a collab with Marco Bucci
can you do something like that with scp some day?
You should have shown Velasquez he is the best example of creating a lot with very little amount of strokes and possibly the best painter in history
Your internal memory is expanding
were those paintings done digitally?
this was SO USEFUL. :O
hey BORODANTE. How do you import your brushes in paintstorm.
Chris Wilson you are able to just drag the files onto the photoshop window
No i cant.
Ok, define what I don't know, got it.
how do you get the dynamic colour thing?
Same question here, what are the setting of your brush ?
You should put tags on your videos so more people have a chance of seeing them
for some reason it the idea of drawing nothing but something kinda reminds me of scp-055
boro is very based.
If I understand well: Colours win on shapes! I'm learning.
Hey, i just bought paintstorm and am loving it but does anyone know how to switch into fullscreen? o:
Breadass try f11 (most programs go into full screen when pressing f11)
Cheffin Ciles already tried that :s can't find anything in the keybinds either
"Because it doesn't matter!"
