    Normally similiar tutorials in "real life" cost money (and not little) and you are making it for free, in way that viewer has the impression that you are speaking directly to him/her. It's very valuable, thanks.

      I think its more like Borodante teaching us all he knows but also learning or in this case reviewing his working progress for his own benefit as well. After all, the great ones usually always say they learn every day. :)

    Oh my. I've been digital painting for a while but constantly get bogged down in the details and have been wanting to learn how to loosen up and become more painterly. Watched tons of tutorials, but this is the first one I've seen where something clicked in my brain. Now to try it out :). Thank you Borodante

    I've been thinking about this video regularly since i first saw it when it came out. Probably the most important tutorial i've seen in my art journey, to this day.

    LOL! (at myself!) I've been doing 3d for over two decades. I "doodle" in 2d for roughing out ideas and just giving my brain a rest (zoning out). As you were describing it, it hit me; this is the 2D equivalent of "blocking out" a 3D model. Simple primitives to define shape and composition/location. Now that my feeble brain has made the connection, I'm going to go try it out on this homework you've given us.
    Thanks Boro! Thanks to those who suggested Boro do a "beginner tutorial" series... see what I did there, Daniel? ..."series"... ;)

    I really liked this idea of giving your audience "homework" and reviewing it and sharing another tool in another video. I would try but dont have money for a digital art tablet. I have a touchscreen on my laptop and a stylist but its not a precise stylist, just a generic one. i guess i could do mouse but that seems like... a bad habit. Ill still watch and see what otherpeople come up with :)

    Interesting way of going about teaching how to concept. I was traditionally taught in high school so I've never had any teacher as far as digital painting goes. I've watched you for a while and I notice you talk about lighting quite a bit. This video is a nice change from the usual and I feel like you did a really good job putting it into perspective; I will definitely be using this in the future :)

    Well Borodante, you are an artist first, and your teaching is the way your brain works as the artist you are. If Picasso would be doing this video, we all be shock by the way he teach us how to paint. So artist first, and second you are an art philosopher. LOVE that! I see that in each one of your videos. Excellent!

    This is a genius idea. Not many people can put together something like this that is so primitive yet still really helpful to a more experienced artist. You have a real gift for instruction.

  • @Kittenbombs
    @Kittenbombs 6 років тому +1

    Very helpful. I think my painting process is going to slightly change now. In the beginning of starting a project I will limit myself to only large brushes, then once I'm happy with the placement, color and values I will switch over to a smaller brush. After digitally painting for 4 years now, you would think this would have sunk in by now, but It's all to easy to grab that fine liner and start adding in the fun stuff like, air particle and stray hairs. But I guess I been told to use a large brush so many times, I never really had a homework assignment that forced me to apply it. So well done, this was more helpful than initially I realized.

    I think you could also add how long it took you to finish the "final" painting, because something that scares a lot of begginers, hell even some advanced painters is how long it took them to finish something, makes them thing it's not worth the time they spent.
    Most people know that time is not that important, but i think it will be reassuring for everyone with this problem.

  • @JayFolipurba
    @JayFolipurba 6 років тому +1

    this was quite awesome. the way you're doing it here is how I always wanted to do it, but I didn't because I guess I needed instructions as clear as yours.
    I'm also put off by the fact that my computer renders on it's CPU because the GPU is so weak, that I can't use large image sizes in PS. But now I'm definitely gonna try this!

    • @tymondabrowski9922
      @tymondabrowski9922 6 років тому

      Krita doesn't use GPU to compute nearly anything, because the computations needed are very simple. The problem you described would be (in that program, not PS, I don't know how PS is made... but I guess it is similar) that you have too little RAM to handle bigger canvases.

    Hey nice video Boro, even for non beginners it's really good, i think my biggest problem in my digital painting is that i add too much little strokes that would not be possible in a real painting with a real brush, the question is, how can we know what would be possible or not with a real brush when you never did real painting ? that's why i recently bought some acrylic and charcoal to figure this out and make my digital painting more "artistic" and less digital. Didn't try it yet but i should do it in a few days.

    Hey Boro, how do I add your ArtStudio Pro brushes to my iPad? When I open it in Safari, it's just a bunch of ASCII and I can't seem to save it to my User Resources -> Presets -> Brushes folder in Artstudio Pro.
    It seems I can put your Photoshop brush on ArtStudio Pro, but I'm concerned that it won't have the same configuration as you have it on your copy of ArtStudio.

    Would you be open to making more tutorials like this with homework attached, like once every 1 or 2 weeks? I give $5 on Patreon every month, but I would definitely pay $10 or more every month if you had special content and homework to share that could teach me more about drawing and painting. I want to learn more about drawing accurately from imagination. Like building shapes and 3D forms and how that process works. Its super complicated, but with your help I know I could learn. I'm also really interested in learning how to translate skills of drawing from sight into drawing from imagination. What is the connection between these things?
    Anyway, I'm so glad you finally made this amazing video. I'd hate to ask for more, because you already give so much, but I can't resist because you are the most amazing artist AND the best art teacher I know, which is why I'm so desperate to learn from you. Anyway, I'll definitely be turning in my homework later this week. Thank you so much. I could just die.
