This video was shot October 23, 2019 on the Middle Provo River in Utah. Utah Division of Wildlife biologists needed to know how many trout are in the river and their condition.
The project was scheduled for three days, in order to sample three different sections of the river. Volunteers were recruited and many came , enthusiastic, ready, and happy to be part of really finding out what's in the Provo. A special boat with a generator provides an electrical charge to wire nets with long handles; shock stuns fish so workers can collect them in nets. Many, many, brown trout are captured and placed in holding barrels for later measurement and weighing. A careful record is recorded by hand for later analysis. The fish are then released back into the river.
