The big trout are deep and the water is cold but bounce rigs with sow bugs get them at a high desert river in the mountain west. We aren't naming this place but it's public water if you can find it. Dan and I only fish public places, streams you can access for free, just be sure you have the state fishing license. Some people say we fish the bounce too much but the reality is, trout that aren't rising during a hatch in big streams are reluctant to come to the top for dry flies. Euro nymphing works for deep fish but it's a more subtle technique than it appears to be. I'm not a tournament fisherman, used to fish for bass that way. We fish for fun and the total outdoor experience. Do we fish technical methods? Yes , sometimes, but our focus has been to help and entertain people who watch our videos. We keep it simple for you but that doesn't mean we can't deal with complexity. In the future I intend to present some ways to deal with more difficult situations and will present some fine points of matching the hatch, casting, approach, etc. Let's say we've presented a fly fishing 101 course, now it's time to help you up your game with some new techniques and perspectives.

I never bother with a net. I just bring them into the shallows and trap them before removing the barbless hook.

Whatever is easiest on the fish... I am am ready to go barb-less, but have to admit barbs help beginning students.
