- Contact us here www.backcountr... if you want to fish with us. Jim and Dan fish for fun at a spot we don't identify. This place has big brown trout. We video ,teach, and guide but only where anyone can go, not private water. Don't expect anything fancy, we fly fish like the "cable guy", that is: "gitter done". We usually fish nymphs deep with a bounce rig because that often works best. That said, if there's a hatch, we switch to dry flies really fast. In this video I mention why some western streams grow such good sized fish because of abundant aquatic insects, scuds, and sow bugs. These aquatic species need the right materials for their shells, (skins if you will). Waters that are somewhat alkaline favor this, in contrast, streams from Eastern U.S. forests are often somewhat acidic and aren't as favorable for insect growth.
Special place - caught my personal best trout here. 24 inch brown. Flows are critical here.
