Learnt a new word from Laura in this video - “mindless “ 😊. Just retired under a year ago. I am enjoying housework and hobbies like gardening. All mindless activities.. enjoying them all. Making everyday chores delightful.
Writing thru tears seeing your heirloom mums. Have some from my mother's garden. She passed peacefully this Christmas Eve at 94. Ironically, she was born & grew up fishing in Spruce Creek, PA...aka as our beloved President Jimmy Carter's favorite fishing creek.
Thinking that I’m not the only one that was so hoping you’d have a bouquet of mums to take in at the end of the cleanup! What a gift to enjoy this pop of color in early January! 💐
Russell is sooooooooo cute! He loves to be loved! He even came ALL THE WAY from the heated green house, out to the unheated green house, just to be with Laura!❤❤❤
Nothing more heartwarming than the unconditional love the kitties show you especially Russell! Leaving one cozy place going out into the cold to be with his mom❤️❤️❤️
Laura always manages to create a hunger in me for new houseplants! Too bad I can’t get out today because of snow and ice here in south central Virginia! So we shall continue taking down Christmas, and get the house looking fresh and organized! She’s such an inspiration!
With those small paws Russel made it down to the high tunnel in the cold to follow you how sweet is that cat . Wow to still have flowers to cut in January wonderful. Those house plants are beautiful.
Staghorn Ferns are Epiphytes ...Orchid bark and cactus soil: A good choice for growing staghorn ferns in pots. (An epiphyte is a plant that grows on top of another plant or surface, obtaining nutrients and water from the air, rain, and debris. The term comes from the Greek words epi-, meaning "upon", and -phyte, meaning "plant)..i used to collect Staghorns :)
This ferns are SOOOOO GORGEOUS ‼️💕💥😍💥And love the boxes Paul made to keep the plants upright when in those lightweight things. Was happy to see you keep some of those flowers cut flowers ! They were still very beautiful. ✨✨✨
She posted on FB that there would not be a Sunday recap because they got behind. Not sure if they will post last week's recap this week or combine two recaps into one for this upcoming Sunday.
Missed my Sunday evening with you guys. Hope you had a great day and welcome to 2025. Thanks for the tutorial on planting house plants. Love the maiden hair fern!
Those heirloom mums are spectacular ! Worked on taking my Christmas decor down also. I hate taking the lights down wish I just left them up for a little cheer thru these drab months. There is just something so warm and cheerful about them !
Couldn't help but laugh outloud as you were jumping up to reach ornaments at the top of the tree outside... at 5'1", I can sooo relate!! The green house looks so cozy and pretty with the added furniture and beautiful potted plants. Very welcoming. (Your vintage ornaments are so beautiful)
Having a good tidy up is always satisfying. Here in UK we have snow and ice so Im going to take this opportunity to clean and sharpen my garden tools and look forward to spring.
I really wish you could or would put that Staghorn Fern in a sheet moss lined hanging basket. It would multiply well and would circle the pot eventually. In summer, it could live hanging under one of the trees. They really make conversation pieces. Think about it!!
My 6 year old said “She’s the best garden-.. she’s the second best gardener in the world, and you’re the first!” Kids are so funny, she caught herself quickly! #mamasgirl
The past few years I have been wrapping my 6ft and under Christmas trees in cling wrap for storage, only removing special ornaments. I use liquid nail to keep the sections together for easier handling. The next year, I unwrap and fluff! I’ve found this saves time even if I change the theme. Ordering some mums this year for sure!
Just to note: for those who may not know! You can control the size of specifically potted house plants if you prune the roots, no more than a 1/3. That way you can keep them in a more manageable size pot, and they’ll love it.
Always enjoy your channel! Thought of you today. We got 10” of ice and snow in our Kansas City suburb yesterday. Went out to start clearing everything off today and found my little angel wrapped in a snow stole. 😇 She was beautiful! My hydrangeas were gorgeous, too! Thank you for inspiring us to look for the beauty in winter.
Was there not a weekly recap for last week? :-( I don't always have time to watch the daily videos and the weekly recap is the one "TV show" that I watch every week. It keeps me caught up. I understand you needing to take time off, and I always appreciate when you post a photo and a message saying a video won't be posted. Best to you and your family. ❤❤
Good morning Laura. I tuck the plant tags down inside the pot after writing the date I repotted them on the tag. Even though I tell myself I will remember when I did it....I won't. I then know when it might be time to repot in fresh soil.
What a beautiful bouquet of mums and in January!!! Took down my Christmas decorations and tree ornaments yesterday. We have been having lake effect snow and now frigid temps in the teens. A good morning to watch your projects! Love how Russell and Douglas find you!!! ❤❤❤
💙Oh my heart. I so envy your Blue Star fern. Doesn’t look like you’re struggling with THAT fern! 😮 I’m working on killing my fourth. 😂 I water it twice a week with distilled water, from the bottom. Mist it once per week. Help, fellow gardeners, what magic do you cast to keep these beautiful buggers alive and thriving?!?!
Hello from Ontario, Canada! The only colour I see here is the blue sky against the snowy landscape. It was so nice to see plants in bloom! I love your videos this time of the year when you do "a little of this and that"!
I'm just north of Hamilton & are looking at grey skies & minimal snow. It's time to do some housework. 😢Christmas came down over the weekend inside. I will tackle the outside later this week when it's a little warmer out.🥶
Love your tip of creating the soil form around the other pot. I’m not so patient and by the grace of God haven’t mutilated too many plants upon repotting.
9:24 philodendron don’t like to sit in moist soil for too long they like to be watered but the water to drain right through . With that large of pot I would suggest mixing 1 part perlight and some lava rocks into the soil so it dries faster . Especially that type of philodendron (slow growing) ring of fires are susceptible to root rot
Hey Laura! It is one of the highlights of my day to be able to sit down and enjoy a garden answer video. Can you tell us more about the mums? Where did you get them? Are they perennials? Etc.
I'm chuckling this morning as Laura is potting up house plants. Asparagus and staghorn ferns growing outside here in Florida. I have two huge staghorns hanging in oak trees. Both are over 4 feet wide. I've never put them in a pot, but mount them on a beard using stagnum moss or peat. An entirely different growing zone. So interesting.
Great video as always! I love your plant content! My local garden center recommended planting staghorn ferns in sphagnum moss or orchid bark instead of potting soil, as they’re epiphytes and prefer a medium that mimics their natural environment. Potting soil can hold too much moisture and might lead to root rot. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Wonderful houseplants, I love all of them and they make an area look so lush. The mums were happy to have the break from the weight of the canopy of leaves I bet, and they look so much better. I know you are happy to be getting the trees down inside. What a wonderful video to start the week. Thank you. Have a blessed day everyone.
Oh, I've been waiting for the mums to get cleaned up. I knew it was going to be satisfying Being in Minnesota, we don't have much gardening going on now. Thank you for sharing your day.
Hi Laura, I’ve been watching your videos for years but I noticed two big potting “no nos” in this video. First, philodendrons do not like oversized pots and they rot very easily. I would add supplemental perlite since you’re using such a large plastic pot. I agree it looks better in the larger pot, but I’ve killed many philodendrons making the same mistake. Second, the staghorn ferns do not have true roots and they should be potted in an orchid mix or moss. They are similar to an orchid and use those roots for support so they need to have lots of access to oxygen/ventilation.
Spent a weekend with my team clearing Christmas decorations, just before the Epiphany, from our bosses' houses and replaced with silver urns and china plates. Sweet!
ahhh, clean up and out... love it... love those ferns!! i've never seen a staghorn planted in dirt, lol.. they sell them down here on boards wrapped in moss...but i like the idea of planting them in dirt, would keep the roots happier longer i think... ferns are just beautiful but some can be so fickle, lol... those mums are beautiful!!! any word on when the raised beds will be built in the high tunnel? and taking down the trees.. always so satisfying to see things back to normal and cleaned out... the stag pots are going to look great on the mantle! Russell and Douglas are such good friends, too... looks like a productive afternoon!!! 🥰❤thanks for the video!! 🥰❤
Asparagus fern is highly invasive in Australia. It is a constant pain to keep removing the runners. My neighbours put one in the ground years ago which affects every house in the street and beyond. Bind weed has nothing on asparagus fern. We have lost whole hedges to it. I am guessing it is not a problem where you live Laura. My heart sunk when I saw those roots.
Laura I love your channel. I’ve been watching you for about a year. I did way more gardening this past year just because of your ideas and inspiration. Thank you. Question what has happened to Cheddar? Please keep up great job.
and just like that the trees go bare! I took mine down and the house feels so empty. I really like the silver cups on the mantle and can't wait to see how you put plants into them.
What beautiful chrysanthemums! We all have a cold here. Seems like all my extended family has one. Peppermint tea and honey and lemon and clear soups help. Hope yall are escaping it!
Hi Laura, you do have a stand that you took out of the Hartley and you put into the the barn you could use that to put the plants on in the high tunnel xx❤
Good morning from Missouri! I simply love watching you clean up your flowers. I don’t get nearly as tired when I just watch you do it!🤣😂😀 Love all your videos! Happy New Year!! 17:04
I have the asparagus fern plant mine right now is full size!I keep it outside all summer and bring it in when the temperature is get too cold . I will tell you that the lower branches do turn a bronze color from sitting inside all winter but as soon as you put it back outside it will lighten up again.
Good Morning! ☃️ January is a good time for repotting! The mums are still putting on a beautiful show! I am also working on taking down Christmas! 🎄🪴✂️
Laura those mums are absolutely gorgeous! Enjoy their beauty as long as you can. I too just put away the last of my Christmas decorations yesterday…what a chore! I too have Shiny Bright ornaments and I absolutely love them. Hard to find them now but are worth it when you can. Have a good evening. ❤
Very productive day! The mums look great and even got a bouquet out of the cleaning! I hope your mums will come back every year for you. I don't have that luck anymore. Your house plants look happy in their new pots and can't wait to see where they go in your home! All my decorations are down just have the lights to take down off the tree and put the tree away! Yes, it always feels good to put up Christmas decorations and then to take them down!💚
Love that you add houseplants when Christmas decor comes down- I’m getting that urge too-per your inspiration. Q- when do the all those outdoor lights come down?
So nice, I have been wanting to pant my garlic for almost 2 months but since I don't have good stability on my feet right now I don't go by myself in the garden. There's so much to be done, so many plants and trees that I had to throw away, is so sad but it seems that no one cares to help me, I have to tell them to....😢 Keep healthy so you can go in the garden until old age! Thank you Laura! Blessings 🙏🏻💞💞
The mums look so nice after the trimming! Question - do you have them sitting on the ground to keep them warmer? I was thinking if they were on a table the job would be easier on your back. It’s a little extravagant but I think I’d have a kneeler and maybe clippers stored in each tunnel. 😊
Good morning, Laura and GA family, it was so satisfying watching the cleanup and repotting and taking down the Christmas trees. I've been slowly taking down mine as well. I have a question; I know poinsettias are usually tossed after Christmas, but I have 4 that are so pretty, what can I do to give them the best chance of survival? I do try every year but not much luck, any tips would be great. lol❤
I usually keep mine in bright light until summer than I sit it on my screened porch. I have gotten them to rebloom the next winter but the bracts were really tiny so it’s not worth all the effort.
I use moss sheets to place on top of the soil to help make it more attractive and hold moisture. I anchor the moss with hair pins (NOT Bobby pins) from the beauty supply.
Hey Arron-Hey Laura! Question for Aaron today… have you seen any odd looking drones in your air space lately? Since you are such a drone dude I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask and get your thoughts on this subject- Thanks! 🛸😳

Sympathy to you on your loss. May her flowers live on for many years as a precious reminder of what she loved.

I absolutely Love your vintage Shiny Brite ornaments!!!!
Love the way your cats always follow you around!!!!
I think the fact that you leave your Christmas trees lit while you undressing them helps you see all of the ornaments rather than unplugging.
I love watching you do chores and futzing with the plants. And, I LOVE those sweet kitties. Russell is such a special little guy. He loves Laura.
Love your word, futzing"!

I have never seen you wear your wedding rings before! And your nails are polished! Very pretty!
Missed your Sunday morning recap...I stoped and said a prayer that all was well with you.🙏
You need to place a kneeling pad in each location of your property Lol! 😁
Missed you this morning 🥺❄️⛄️💚🙃 I LOVE the banter between Laura and Aaron. ❤️❄️⛄️💚🙃
I love how Russell always finds you no matter where you are in the garden.
Watching this as the first snow is falling here in central Kentucky! Have a wonderful week GA Team!

I had to leave a few snowmen down for a little longer!
Love seeing the vintage tree bulbs just like the ones I grew up with I'm 67 and remember them very well!
When you are potting the plants, and especially when you’re trimming the mums, I can smell them!

Laura, you need to keep a kneeling pad in all the places that you work on plants. That way you don’t have to remember to get one before your project.
Great idea!
Such a beautiful bouquet with spent flowers.

Thank you for your very useful instructions on how to plant and care for flowers and ornamental plants. I wish you health and success.
Wow, what a difference the way the plants look. They are beautiful and look happy!!
❤Rejoice in the LORD always!!!
I love Christmas trees and lights! But taking them down and putting away is not my jam. It’s work😂 I can’t even imagine taking down 6
