Thanks so much for posting this one. Boy, the Steelers really pounded those guys, must have had over 200 yards rushing. I remember this game, and wanting to watch it, but couldn't (got stuck with the useless Chiefs-Chargers game that afternoon - didn't have the internet or NFL Redzone in 1984, so you were at the mercy of whenever NBC flashed scores on the screen to keep updated). When I saw Steelers were up 3-0 at halftime, I knew we were gonna win this game and make the playoffs. Beating the Raiders of that era in that place was a monumental accomplishment in those days, especially after the Raiders had killed them the year before in the playoffs. Like the win over SF in week 7, I always thought that this was one of the best non-SB wins in Steelers history.

      1. This win and the SF win.
      2. The SNF in Houston in 88.
      3. The "revenge game " in Cleveland in 1989 ( which imo led to the Baltimore Ravens).

The track around the football field in this key game was the setting earlier that year for Carl Lewis’ 100 yard dash victory and Mary Decker’s fall in the 3000. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in the 1984 Summer Olympics.

I been waiting for a long time to see this game again,37 years! The Steelers really stunned the football world with this upset.Nick Buoniconti on inside the NFL gave them no chance and the following weeks show was wearing a Steelers cap at beginning of show. And the Steelers pulled off another amazing win against the 13-3 Broncos in playoffs.I think the Raiders underestimated the Steelers and the letdown from this loss seemed to carry over into the wildcard against Seattle the next week and lost by the same score 13-7 if my memory is right

The Broncos loss to Pittsburgh in '84 upset me more than any other Bronco loss ever...and that's saying a lot. Marino was torching Elway in play and media coverage...I wanted a qb duel more than anything. Still bothers me

Probably true, the Raiders had the Dolphins' number throughout much of the late 70's and 80's. Raiders had beaten them in Miami already in 1984. Steelers were the opposite, able to beat Raiders, 49ers and Broncos on the road but could not handle Marino at home in regular season or on road in AFC title game. Strange how it was a triangle. Dolphins built to beat Steelers, Raiders built to beat Dolphins and Steelers built to beat Raiders.
