At some point, in the middle of the ring fest and--while you are still in your prime--you have to decide that I want to be able to show what I can do and be counted! The 49ers didn't care whether you were a HOFer in the heat of the moment, because what they were caring about then was winning as many rings as they could. That's the business aspect of pro sports. The difference between Craig and Faulk is that Faulk was soft and Craig was one of the most physical runners ever. Craig's weakness is that he was so physical that he didn't let the blocking develop and would just slam into defenders. Faulk was smoother, but his lack of power is lame.

The Steelers were a horrible matchup for the 49ers. It's too bad they couldn't get past Miami because they had a great chance at that 5th ring had they made it to the Super Bowl. Miami's receiver strength were easily matched by the 49er secondary. Miami had no ground game. They were one dimensional. The Steelers were as complete on both sides of the ball as the 9ers were. Chuck Nolls 2nd best coaching year ! Winning the division and a playoff game on the road at 13-3 Denver! 1989 being his finest with the Cinderella Steelers . Bubby Brister as QB who only threw 9tds that year and won another playoff game on the road ! But beating the 18-1 49ers in candle stick was the best highlight of the 80s for the Steelers .
Listen chump, the only reason Pittsburgh won was a fluke penalty call by a ref who was a back judge and wasn't even the closest ref to the play. Just in case you weren't certain about who the real team of the 1980's...it was the 49ers. We beat the shit out of the league, year in and year out from 1981-1990. 5 NFC title games, 4 superbowls and playoff appearences every year except 1980.
Really dumb statement. Montana and the offense did their job - getting the ball downfield in under 2 minutes (which took 6 minute drives most of the day). As JG mentions, after a very questionable DPI call on Eric Wright who made a marvelous leaping goal-line knock down. (That back ref had ZERO vision on the timing - unable to see the ball from where he was.) And making an insulting remark about Ray Wersching just demonstrates ignorance. Sure, it was a bad kick. But that's extremely rare for "Moe." He's one of the most reliable kickers in NFL history and in fact I think was rated that year and the prior year as the most reliable (highest %) FG kicker in the league. So, if you're going to have a kicker as your "final second hope" then it's not an LOL to choose him. NFC west a joke in the 80's??? The 9ers were THE team of the '80's. Duh. Just really silly statements. This was the 9ers ONE loss of the whole season - lost by a bad FG. Hats off to the Steelers who were scrappy and played with fire and hunger - above their actual skill level - the whole game. Probably Mark Malone's career best game.

The difference between Craig and Faulk is that Faulk was soft and Craig was one of the most physical runners ever. Craig's weakness is that he was so physical that he didn't let the blocking develop and would just slam into defenders. Faulk was smoother, but his lack of power is lame.
Niners just played bad in this game still should have won bad pass interference call
2:04:55 what an interception .. meanwhile you have guys who can't hold on when it's dropped right in their hands
Bad pass interference call or the 49ers win that game to should have been the only 19 and 0 team ever. Rig job
They really played bad though.
I would've loved them to go undefeated, especially after being ripped off three wins in '83
But if they had to loose a game in '84, I'm glad it was to Pittsburgh.
Lot of bad calls. The way it is. It’s football!!!
@@kenphillips2561 yeah rigged sonetimes
No rig job only salty fans
If it wasn't for Eric Wright's pass interference call on John Stallworth the 49ers would have been undefeated
that wasnt pass interference. a bad call

Awkward moment in stereo 10:35.
Poetic justice rules here. Everyone - the official, announcers, and evidently all who've watched this - missed that at ua-cam.com/video/Jq7Jbcjjdrw/v-deo.html, his entire body lands in the field of play. Why did the clock stop? Even though long before replay, no one could even raise a question of whether he remained in bounds. Nice to know some justice existed back then!
Frank Pollard should be hall of fame. Boy, the Steelers really destroyed the 48ers on this day..
1:27:49 first time I see a receiver catching a ball while kneeling lol
Only niners lost that year?
Yes their only lost while year
Great game !
The 84 Steelers were better than their record. They lost on a fluky final play at Indy and by only 2 points in the 4th quarter at Cincinnati. They were basically an 11-5 squad IMO. They were good enough to beat in the same season, the defending SB champ Raiders and the eventual SB champ 49ers and were the only team to to beat SF all year. They just couldn't matchup with a prime Marino in the reg or post season. Had they found a way to upset Miami in the AFC title game, you know, one of those fluky wins where you get tipped interceptions and special teams TDS etc. they would have had a chance against SF in the SB. Not because they had beaten them in the reg season, but because they just matched up with them well.
@@Serp_Entine lol what's worse was The Steelers almost drafted him. It was literally down to him and the D Lineman they selected that ended up paralyzed
@teddy boy Every team has a essential injury in every game played all season. Regardless of the missed kick, my point is The Steelers that season weren't a great team but they were one of those scrappy teams that matched up with SF and not Miami
@teddy boy Tunch Ilkin ALWAYS dominated Fred Dean.
Would've been a great Super Bowl.
Chuck Nolls 2nd best coaching year ! Winning the division and a playoff game on the road at 13-3 Denver! 1989 being his finest with the Cinderella Steelers . Bubby Brister as QB who only threw 9tds that year and won another playoff game on the road ! But beating the 18-1 49ers in candle stick was the best highlight of the 80s for the Steelers .
the great mark malone in his prime .. a treat to watch .. thanks for the upload ... jk lol
The 49ers only loss of the season.
the refs ruined the 19-0 season!
NFC west was a joke back in the 80s. This is what happens when a REAL team comes to town. Wershing as your final second hope LOL.
@@docgeri The Giants D had your number 85. 86, and 90
@@80steen44 and the 49ers had the giants number in 81,84 and 88 and 89, eagles did too most of the 80s
@@americanpatriot7233I'm not knocking SF, I personally think Montana is the goat but I'm a Steelers fan so I had to say something lol. Belichick as NYG Defensive Coordinator from 85-90 seemed to occasionally do a great job on the West Coast Offense, even in the 90 reg season loss. Do you think Walsh would have done what Seifert did in 89? We assume yes but I sometimes wonder cause there's a case to be made that 89 and 94 are their 2 best seasons and even 90 if not for the Joe injury in the NFC title game. Of course it all goes back to Walsh's concept but do you feel as a coach he gets the same results in those seasons? I know in 87 they looked that good too until the Vikings upset but 88 where they won it all they really weren't the best team that year in terms of being hot.
Montana blows the game with a costly interception with 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Perfect season gone.
Wershing blows it after missing 37 yd fg.
The refs blew it with a bogus PI call.
