@NATALIE.HERNANDEZ 102153 ok so another theory of mine is that if you have a lot of hybrids pending (like you are breeding way too many flowers at the same time like I am) there's a lesser chance of them spawning. So I suggest breeding in small amounts When I mean 'too many hybrids pending' I'm referring to different color hybrids since every hybrid has a different chance of spawning
@Scp 939 Scorpions are in season right now for a few months Once scorpions are out of season the tarantulas will come back Tarantulas and scorpions only spawn once it's 7 PM
I'm pretty new to animal crossing so i had no idea hybrids existed, so i was super confused when pink hyacinths and blue pansies started growing. Then i learned what they were and got super determined for black roses and other cool hybrids! I love your videos!
I believe there's some dominant/recessive shenanigans with flower breeding. The hybrid island flowers have the optimal traits to produce the next level of hybrids. A bunch of pink roses I stole from a hybrid island just produced a purple rose. Blue hyacinth from hybrid island also produced a purple hyacinth. I'm now moving my flowers around to a checkerboard pattern for each type/color to see what happens next.
Bought red rose seeds from my friends island, grew them and they bred both black and pink roses. Then when I had the one black rose sitting next to my red ones, watered with a gold can and next day golden roses sprouted, I think it’s just luck.
What if it's like real flowers o.o idk much about em but how pollen travels from different places to fertalize. So flowers from different island and city's have a higher spawn rate??? If i had the game is test by giving friend flowers from my isle.
It's fun to have something you need to experiment with that there isn't a fool proof guide for yet, but at the same time I just want some flippin nice looking flowers.
You know ... I don't even try. I just plant the flowers randomly with a few spaces among them and keep watering daily. Eventually different colors will appear. Then I rearrange the flowers again and keep watering them. I go for simple luck.
I may be a bit late to respond here, but I believe that the flowers in Animal Crossing are related to Mendelevian Genetics (at least I think it's Mendelev? To REALLY dumb it down, here are my findings: - Each seed purchased from the shop is a purebred colored flower, meaning that they only have the color genes that they have (i.e: Red is only 4 Red genes, White is only 4 White genes, Yellow is only 4 yellow genes and Orange Windflowers have 4 Orange Genes. You'll see why I'm using 4 later to make this easier) - Each flower gotten from the Hybrid Flower island is a purebred colored flower (i.e: Orange have 4 Orange genes, and Blue have 4 Blue genes) - Genes can be dominant or recessive, similar to how real life genes work. Think eye colors and how some are more rare than others. Some have to have a mix of genes to achieve said color. With that being said, you can use our trusty Punnett Square in order to figure out what each flower is when you breed it. From my experiments of breeding flowers, I have made the following findings: - Red Purebred and White Purebred can make Red Flowers, Pink Flowers, or rarely White Flowers (RR, Rw, ww) - Red Purebred and Yellow Purebred can make Red Flowers, Orange Flowers, and rarely Yellow Flowers (RR, Ry, yy) - Orange Windflowers plus any other color windflower seems to produce solely Orange Windflowers, but more testing is needed. This may hint that Orange could be supremely dominant alongside Red and White Flowers. With this, that means most people who want hybrids need to keep track of what each flower they have's genes are, which is honestly a chore for most people. In an example of a Red Purebred Tulip x Yellow Purebred Tulip, let's say you get an Orange Tulip. That Orange Tulip's Genes in sets must have the following: - At least 1 Ry gene - No more than 4 yy genes. - No RR genes. By cross-pollinating the Orange Tulip with a Yellow Purebred Tulip, you will get the following results: - Orange Tulips with fewer Ry genes and more yy genes. This is less likely to happen. - Yellow Tulips with only yy genes as y is recessive compared to the dominant R. But what about those Tier 2 plants? Sure Tier 1 plants are easy to get but Tier 2 is a pain right? Well, kinda. Purebred Tier 1 plants, like those found on the Mystery Island are purebred, which means in your example, you have the following going on: - Orange Purebred Pansies (Ry, Ry, Ry, Ry) - Blue Purebred Pansies (bb, bb, bb, bb) - Blue will be treated as recessive because I need to do further testing. When they are cross-pollinated, theoretically, you should only get Purple Pansies, UNLESS Blue Purebred Pansies have another letter in their genepool. This is why you get Purple Pansies quickly, because their genepool is now Ryb, Ryb, Ryb, Ryb. With this logic, you should only be getting Purple Pansies, but that doesn't make sense because Red and White Purebred Flowers produce themselves sometimes. Which ultimately means that each "Purebred" Flower may have a recessive trait already included, and the ones that are recessive are Purebred. Red Purebred may have a hidden Ry component, meaning that they can create a Pink Flower or Orange Flower with the right flower choice. Once again, more testing is needed as I'm playing the game with no time travel, and I'm remaking my island with terraforming to create what will be an experiment site for flowers. I know this is a lot of information, but I hope this helps explain how this works. I also see a lot of mis-information, so I want to help clear this up as much as I can.
My red roses are bought from the shop as seeds and planted together (no other roses or other flowers nearby) and produce pink roses. So this theory isn't how they base whatever their hybrid rules on.
@@SohiHien Mmmm, I think it's not that my theory is incorrect in what you're stating, moreso that there's more factors. What you're describing happening is a mutation, where one gene of a flower switches on it's own. Also can be seen in real life but that's not the point for that. It would make sense if Red Roses x Red Roses that are pure can make Pink Roses, cause that means a mutation occurred by breeding with the same roses. Since I'm remaking my entire garden to help with the hybrid theory efforts, I'll test out what you did with other flowers as well and see what happens. Still I appreciate the information as to what you discovered by breeding store-bought red roses together to get pink. I still believe it to be a mutation because that makes the most sense, but you never know when it comes to flower breeding.
Where red and white sometimes produce themselves, just wondering if this was with just one of each colour (one white, one red) in an area? I’m sure that’s a stupid question to ask and I’m sure you checked that. But just in case if it was the cross pollination method (4 reds, one white in the middle/ vice versa) the red flowers could then pollinate eachother I think without touching? That’s the only logical explanation I can think of anyways as to why with your theory? Or it could just be the probabilities were generally higher on the tier one flowers with the punnet squares? Not terribly sure, honestly. My god my GCSE knowledge isn’t going to waste after all! 😂
@@nicolestewart8181 Originally I tried in the whole grid method, but I realized that doing that grid method causes way too many problems when trying to determine what colors create what. Red and Red could cross pollinate each other and make Red, however I've had recently changed my flower setup to isolate other variables other than 2 flowers being next to each other. Based on another reply to my comment as well as viewers discussing on my own streams, it's strongly believed that two flowers of the same color that are cross-pollinating from seed purebred status can mutate into a different color. Since my flowers are having to grow all over again to start with a clean sweep, it will take some time before I have any further answers. Overall though, I would not be surprised to see 2 purebred Red Flowers make a Yellow Flower, or something similar, especially if mutations are in this game. ... Have I mentioned how insane New Horizons is with flowers now? We've gone from simple color + color = hybrid to now flower genetics, when this is a game about talking animals and you getting out of debt. What a wild trip.
@@Kitathi I don't think 2 purebred reds could make a yellow, they can however make pink (for roses). It is actually faster to get pinks from 2 reds then in is for red and white in their case. There is an amazing document that gets deeply into the specific genetics involved with flower breeding in this game that is based on people data mining and testing breeding pairs.
I literally don’t even bother with my flowers, the rain and my animals water them for me and then I’ve ended up with tons of random hybrids and my friends asking how I got them and I’m just like idk???? lmaooo
So looking through some Japanese guides, they classify the following as "tier 2 hybrids": Purple windflowers, purple pansies, green mums, and blue roses. Listed the combos below, but have no clue whether they work or not. Trying them, but since I'm not TTing, the results are...slow lol. Purple windflower: Pink + Blue = hybrid pink Hybrid pink + Hybrid pink = Purple Windflower Purple Pansy: Blue + Red = Hybrid Red Hybrid Red + Hybrid Red = Purple Pansy Green Mum: Red + Yellow = Hybrid Yellow Hybrid Yellow + Hybrid Yellow = Green Mum Blue Rose: Purple + Orange = Hybrid Red Hybrid Red + Hybrid Red = Blue Rose
I think this is a reasonable explanation for why flowers from mystery island have a better chance for getting tier 2 hybrids. They already are in the "hybrid" state. Meanwhile, tier 1 hybrids you breed from primary are not in "hybrid" state. I have gotten purple wildflowers from hybrid blue + hybrid blue, hybrid pink + hybrid pink, and even hybrid blue + hybrid pink However, I've never gotten a purple from regular blues and pinks I got from primary flowers.
You're surprisingly pleasant to listen to and also finally a video that admits - " nobody, including me, really knows what they're doing." Thanks from the Netherlands and subscribed! :D
When I realized hybrid flowers were a thing I was dead set on filling y island with black roses. Lo and behold, my island is not covered in black roses, the one exception being my park which is filled with fink flowers of all kinds.
Best video I’ve seen on hybrids. Here’s my experience. Before I saw this, I spent a 4-5 days irl doing them myself, focused on roses. Time traveled for about 6-8 hours a day, just watering. Don’t know exactly how long it took in game, but Ive also never been to hybrid island. All my flowers were originally seeds from the shop. Used probably every method you had listed here because of the confusion around the community. My island was almost completely filled with flower beds before it finally worked. But, finally got 1 blue rose from my orange roses and another blue rose from a random pink and a black rose that I was not even testing. (Happened during rain). Side note: Blue roses also appear to be the only hybrid rose to always reproduce the same color. They always make more blue, as far as I’ve seen, as I’ve made a massive garden of them since my success.
this is the first video of yours that ive seen (it popped up on my recommended), but i just want to say i thoroughly enjoyed it. the voiceover was not only relaxing and informative, but you narrated the video in such a story-like way that kept me invested and interested until the end. i look forward to browsing more of your videos! hope youre staying happy and healthy during this crazy time!
Omg finally a video where we don't assume we know how breeding work in this game! You made serious point, hope you'll make more video if you got more info!
I’m fairly sure there was a data mine that exposed more complex genes in flowers, like dominant and recessive genes, high school punnet square stuff. So the reason that you couldn’t get 2nd tier hybrids from your personally bred hybrids, was because they had all kinds of various genes from their chaotic lineage, but with the rare hybrid island, you got Purebreds, and they had more opportunities for their recessive genes to come out on top to create a 2nd tier hybrid. It’s still based on chance, but there is a science to it now too.
ACNH was my first AC game, and I was super confused when the red tulip patch I was tending to suddenly spawned black ones. I was raking my mind thinking what I'd done to get them coz they looked so cool. Then I found this video. I didnt know hybrids were a thing. Thanks!
I know exactly how the flowers work. Plant, water, and have a smol chance of getting some of the cool stuff. I just plant a ton of flowers, water every day, and watch. No guides are trustworthy guides. Love your videos, keep inspiring me during these tough times.
Pro time travel tip if you don't want to travel in one day increments; time travel to 4:58 AM of the same day you are in, get the morning announcements, and boom, everything on the island is reset, and this does count for flower growth, I have tested it extensively. The game registers this as a new day, so you will get new fossil spawns, weed, rock and tree branch spawns and message in a bottle spawns. Also, if you have any special characters such as gulliver, celeste or Redd, this keeps the character in loop on your island and your are able to acquire new items each time. Hope this helps!
This is a theory i read while playing new leaf. Apparently, having naturally spawned flowers (that come on your island, not bred from other flowers) or flowers you bought are more likely to produce hybrids. Lets call these flowers 'originals.' Versus having primary flowers that you bred. E.g. you have red and white cosmos trying to produce pink cosmos, instead the original red and white cosmos have produced another white cosmos. This newly produced white cosmos will be less likely to produce hybrids or any other flowers. Therefore you need to stick to 'original' flowers, not ones that have been bred. Lets call these newly spawned flowers 'babies.' Which are essentially just tier 1 flowers but in a primary colour. I know this is just a theory but it seems pretty concrete for 3 reasons: 1. Teir 2 hybrids are harder to spawn as they're bred from tier 1 hybrids or 'babies.' These teir 1 hyprids are not 'originals' as they spawned from another flower making teir 2 harder to spawn. 2. There are teir 1 flowers found on nook miles islands, but, they weren't bred from other flowers, does this mean they're 'originals?' Is that why tier 2 flowers are more easilly bred from these flowers? That would basically mean these tier 1 'originals' will spawn a teir 2 'baby' just as easilly as primary flowers will spawn a teir 1 hybrid. 3. A few years ago in new leaf, I was breeding red and white lillies, my yeilds were plentiful at first. I would often get red or white lillies spawn instead of the pink, but i got plenty of pink as well. (Between 1-3 per day i think, i remember almost always getting atleast 1 per day and getting none was a rare occurance) When i got red or white lillies spawning i would add them to my ever growing breeding feild, because more primarys that i have to water means more hybrid spawns right? I guess not, cause after getting the 'originals' and the 'babies' mixed up i very rarely got pink lily spawns. (Only 1 every few days) After reading this theory i trashed my whole lily breeding field and made a new field with only flowers i bought from nooks or 'originals.' And i started getting plenty of pink lily spawns as i did at the start. I hope that makes sense! I'm very tired while typing this! I read this many years ago and cant remember the original source. It's also interesting that it relates to new horizons with the addition of the flowers found on nook miles islands. Seeing as this is the only time we've ever been able to get naturally spawned tier 1 flowers and people have had more luck breeding from them apparently.
Lol I loved this video. You share my frustration OMG haha. So I've been trying to get a green mum for almost a month with the mums in my island and it took forever! I religiously watered them and followed all the online guides and nothing until one day finally I got one. It was so amazing! Now I'm trying to get the second one and no luck so far but I least I have one
I think the basic conclusion is... hybrids make no sense in this game. xD I found a hybrid cosmos island last week full of only orange and pink cosmos. Seeing this mystery island theory going around, I brought back a bunch and placed them into their own plot hoping to get a black cosmos. As of now (almost a week later), no black cosmos, just a single orange cosmos spawned. I've had more luck from the cosmos bought from my own island :/ I appreciated your take on the hybrids tho! Too many vids of various hybrid combos lol
Did you know: Isabelle gets her name from the shape of her head. The little topknot on her head complimented by her round yellow head merely ressembled bells; the in game currency. So the Nintendo team decided to name this Shi-tzu Isabelle, a play on words of Is-A-bell.
This video was posted a year ago, I’m aware but I have bred all the way to blue roses starting with roses I planted from seeds. There’s at least five ways I’ve seen that people bred blue roses from the guides. I tried all of them, and had seven patches of hybrid reds by the end of it. It took me time traveling four-five months in the future to get it. It led me to this conclusion: I think there’s a set number of days the flower must have either been aged or watered before it will produce a hybrid flower, even more so for what you’ve called a tier 2 and tier 3. I’m not a data miner, these are just my thoughts since after they made one they just kept pumping them out every few days. Getting that first one was terrible but after that they reproduced like crazy. Surely no one will see this since this video is quite old but if you do see it, it’s possible to breed seeds all the way to the end! Just don’t give up :)
0:12 Actually, this is the guide I've been following, and so far it's worked. It's a relatively slow process, often taking several days for what you want to show up, but this guide has gotten me green mums, black roses, and several other hybrids, including hybrid primaries, and I started playing after hybrid island got removed (wasn't even aware it was a thing that existed or that it got removed until I saw this video and some of the comments). Looking forward to blue rose and purple hyacinths.
Your video brings up something super interesting! So based on ninjis data-mine we know that hybrids work like actual genetic which you can chart the probability in a punnet square, making hybrids blooming from primary's 1/4 chance bc of the recessive gene. When you're cross breeding hybrids my guess is you have a 1/16 chance naturally of getting tier 2 but my guess is the hybrid island gives you stage 1 hybrids that are full fledged pedigree recessive trait carriers making the chance of blooming a stage 2 hybrid out of them back to 1/4 or even maybe 1/2
I'm not even at a point where I feel like I can worry about hybrid flowers, but your videos are so fun to watch I just have to watch 'em all! You remind me of an Animal Crossing/Nintendo version of Swtorista. You both got that really nice, calming voice. New Horizons is my first Animal Crossing game (didn't own a GameCube, never saw a copy of City Folk and New Leaf was sold out everywhere when I went to buy it), and I've been loving every minute of it! I got your "Turnips for Dummies" video in my Recommendations yesterday, and I've been hooked on your videos since. They're just so... I don't know, cute, funny, entertaining. I love your style, editing, humour, everything!
Flowers have genes and alleles, so that’s why you need hybrid red roses for blue roses and also why hybrids from mystery islands make tier 2 hybrids more often or are required to make tier 2 hybrids (they have the needed alleles). There’s a whole google doc about it (you can find the link in a reddit post by googling “ACNH advanced flower genetics”)
I just got told a pretty simple way of doing it. Breed tier 1 red and yellow mums, when they make yellow hybrids, put those next to each other. Either it will grow the purples then needed to get greens or there is a small change of getting green from the yellow hybrids. The purples bred from 2 whites or purples found on a hybrid flower island will not make a green mum
It’s pretty funny watching the frustration of early 2020 flower breeding, especially since it took ppl so long to realise that 2 specific flowers ‘mate for life’, and that the flowers genes matters…. Like it breads differently if it’s from another island/seed packet/ur own island
I Got Hybrid Flowers Without Even Trying, i was just putting Random Flowers In Random Spots and i got Hybrid Flowers, like Black Tulips and pink windflowers, without even looking up help guides.
For SOME REASON i decided it would be a good idea for my first flower breeding project tp be PURPLE WINDFLOWERS. For those of you who dont know, the recipe for it i found was two whites into blue that blue with red untill it spawns a red, and those two reds into a MAYBE purple. Im doing all of this no time travel, help me.
Almost everyone: struggling to get a certain hybrid Me: *laughs in flowers overpopulated on my island because I took a long break and now I have like a thousand of hybrids that I don’t need*
apart from my tier 1 hybrid hyacinths (which i got from a hybrid flower island) i’m proud to say i’ve bred almost every flower in animal crossing from the seed packets to the tiers!! a tip i have for y’all (if u don’t already know this) is to get 4 of ur friends (or in my case 4 strangers from an ac discord server) and fly them to ur island to water ur flowers. i used to water them by myself and time skip but damn it was so long and ineffective whereas after time skipping with 5 lots of people watering them, the amount of flowers u get is incredible!! i get 25 new flowers a day now (from just 1 watering session) from this method and it rlly helped me to get my hybrid numbers up :) also if anyone has any tips for getting blue roses or purple pansies/tulips then pleaseee let me know because i’m struggling pahahah
I don't know who needs to hear this but orange windflowers do absolutely nothing in breeding except make orange windflowers. Get them out of your patterns now.
I left a part of my island alone for like a week, and the next thing i knew i was looking for orange roses for a DIY recipe and i happened to find these things: -an abundance of weeds - a black rose -A purple rose -an orange rose (😃) -a bunch of pink roses And yeah. I have alot of primary color roses-
Just found your channel and I'm extremely glad I did. I thank you for all the hard work u put into your videos. Very informational and entertaining. 👌🏼😁
Just started playing animal crossing during the summer as there wasn't rally much else to do ! So despite working 2 jobs I've been really trying to develop my island love these video have actually bred some by accident !
Hiii! i know why the flowers from hybrid island worked. There's been data mining and we know a lot more! For some reason Nintendo gave each flower a dominant and recessive gene. Flowers on hybrid island most likely have both genes dominant hybrid, while others are recessive. This also explains the crazy combinations that people have been getting lately. I hope you see this and it helps! I loved the video!
*_*SUPER AWESOME TIP:*_* _If you see that it's raining on your island, _*_write down the date and time!_* You can actually time travel back to that exact date and time, and it will rain again! So, hypothetically, you could plant a ton of flowers, time travel for a couple of wasted days if they need to grow, then (when you're ready to water the whole lot in one go, to try for hybrids) just time travel back to that exact date and time, run around once to make sure all the flowers get exposed to the rain, then save and quit and time travel to the next day! This is extremely useful if you're trying to water *_huge_* batches of hybrid flowers, which is absolutely the best way to get them if you're really serious about it. 😎 (Also, plant your crossbreeding flowers in a long diagonal line, alternating as you go. That's the most efficient use of space, and you can have a different pair running next to them, and so on and so on. So, you could have a red rose, then down and to the left have a white rose, then down and to the left have a red rose, etc. As long as you leave enough growable spots for each line of hybrids to potentially grow on either the right or the left, you will get an absolutely ridiculous amount of hybrids growing, every single day! 😁)
People: *Struggling with hybrid flowers* Me letting flowers grow while I do other things and they spread massively to the point I got hybrids without looking for them: :D
Hybrid flowers drive me absolutely insane. They are probably one of my favorite things to go for in Animal Crossing (hence why I haven't just up and bought some stems on Nookazon), but sometimes my luck is just terrible. After 4 weeks I finally got 2 Hybrid Purple Mums, then like 5 days later I got a green mum. But then I have cases like my tulips. It took me maybe a week into the game to get two orange tulips. I just got purple tulips 4 days ago. The only hybrid I have left to get is blue roses. This is going to take awhile.
In a random area I just planted flowers because Isabelle told me to and when they were fully grown I was time traveling and when I was back to my original time I had hybrid lilies some were black, pink, and orange! The only colors I planted were Red,White, and yellow!
This is very interesting, and like that you've gone so far as to experiment with several types of grow patterns and even went time traveling! I've never heard of this "hybrid island", but i do know that some islands people create have their own experiences. My sister started her island with cherries and mums, and I started with peaches and cosmos, respectively. She's also been getting new flowers out the butt, but she planted hers in straight lines and I just followed the 5x5 guide that I was linked to. I think everyone just has different experiences depending on their respective account, which is super frustrating! It could also be the seasons? I'm not sure. I have an idea that's sure to at least help: make friends. Very stupid, or at least cliche, but hear me out. My sister finally got Animal Crossing for her switch, and my first instinct is to help her out, cus sometimes its frustrating to do certain things at the beginning. I didn't give her tools, but I gave her a bunch of primary flowers and, when they bred, she gave me a couple secondaries, and I'm trying to return the favor, but my island seems to not like the idea of doing what it's told. Basically what I'm saying is this - if you luck out and get a flower color that someone else doesn't have, maybe give them one, and vice versa? At least everyone wins that way.
I got a hybrid flower island from my first save file, i got about 5 black roses, 5 purple roses, and 3 pink roses (and I’m planting more variety and coloured flowers, eg: pansies, hyacinths, roses, mums, wind-flowers and lilies (they’re the only ones i currently have around my island, I only had roses at the start which I’m not sure if it’s a hybrid island depending on colours but yeah) hope that helps with finding out if you have a hybrid island
Dumb luck has been working fine for me, I tried for months to breed a purple tulip, and then it spawned next to another random bunch of tulips that I wasn't even watering
So there is actually someone who data mined the stuff about flowers and it turns out that flower breeding uses dominant and recessive gene's, just like actual living things, and that some flowers are made through recessive gene's and the only flower that carry them are from hybrid island. There's a whole post about it online somewhere but it is EXTREMELY complicated
Im almost positive its the rate at which the hybrid spawns have to do with how many flowers you plant. once you go to a mystery island with hybrids you instantly have significantly more hybrids to breed then you did before so the spawn rates the next tier of hybrids spawn would be significantly more. the hybrid island that I got was for tulips, and while after that I had no problem harvesting hybrid tulips, once I bred an ungodly amount of hybrid roses, I had no problem harvesting hybrid roses
My friend just got New Horizons a bit ago so i visited her island. She does not know what flower hybrids are, so I asked for her orange cosmos, *politely*, and took it to my town as a sacrifice to Merengue. :3
Not too long after I got the game, I ran into a hybrid island with pink and purple mums. I loaded up on them, and planted a garden. A rainy day or two later, I had more green mums than I knew what to do with. -For the past few MONTHS I have been attempting to get purple hyacinths. It was decently easy to get blue and orange hyacinths, but day after day of watering them? I only now get purple. I have two purple and they haven’t really been growing any more when I water them. Animal Crossing hybrids are a cruel mistress, I assure you.
I set up this really elaborate flower bed for breeding hybrids. I invited some people over to water my flowers because this increases your chances and makes the whole process go faster. So, I don’t know if they thought they were being helpful or what but, one of them planted flowers in all my empty spaces and it took me an hour to use my original plan and remove the extra flowers.
I got purple mums from a hybrid island, planted them on mine, watered them, & next day there was a green mum growing, same with the windflowers with the blues making a purple from the hybrid island. I did visit my friend & gave him some blue windflowers from the island because he's collecting all purple flowers & I wanted to help him out with getting the purple windflower faster, I should ask him if it bred a purple one.
I have every flower in the game I got them all in about 4 months (no time travel). From experience I think that ANY flowers have a really really small chance of creating any color of the same species. Somehow I got my first purple rose from two pinks but I have not found a single guide saying that you can do that! I also got blue roses from primary flowers. ;w;
idk if anyone is interested but I started ACNH back in July and now (end of February/beginning of March) bred all hybrids there are from normal seed flowers (the last ones being purple pansies :') ). but I have to say that I only started proper breeding for the blue/purple variants in December since those just didn't want to pop up before. cosmos and lilies were the easiest to breed imo but maybe that's also because these were my native/sister flowers? but they also don't have many colour variants so there's that too^^ (hybrid island is still disabled btw) the guide in the Blue Roses video is top notch, that's how I bred my blue roses and everything else that I missed.
I've only just started the flower breeding process. So far there has been no huge problems. Right now I have bred one single pink tulip, and my hyacinths are still blooming. Hoping to get to tier two hybrids in the next weeks!
It’s related to the genetics of the flowers. It follows the Mendelian trait inheriting pattern. It’s biology stuff and punnet square stuff. That’s why people are doing like 10 steps to get blue roses, it makes it easier when your flowers have perfect genetics. Great, school in my video game.
I believe there's some sort of whichcraft involved. I grew a patch of mainly red and yellow roses for orange, got orange and pink. Then someone gave me a black tulip and pink tulip. I planted them somewhere together and a few days later they gave me an orange tulip. I keep putting red and white pansies together, that I grew from seeds, and they have given me absolutely no other colors. Just more white and red. I took blue and oranges someone gave me to put near them to maybe cause something different and nope. More white and red. Also blue windflowers are impossible for me and I've given up I'm drowning in white windflowers
a i got a purple tulip by placing a red and yellow one next to each other. it was in that moment that I realized that the new horizons flower breeding process was something i could never comprehend.
My secret to breeding flowers is not trying to get anything. Just watering flowers and whatever I get is what I get. Have no goals and just play the game. That's the best way to breed flowers. Stress free and you have more fun doing anything but trying to get rare flowers.

@NATALIE.HERNANDEZ 102153 ok so another theory of mine is that if you have a lot of hybrids pending (like you are breeding way too many flowers at the same time like I am) there's a lesser chance of them spawning. So I suggest breeding in small amounts
When I mean 'too many hybrids pending' I'm referring to different color hybrids since every hybrid has a different chance of spawning

I'm pretty new to animal crossing so i had no idea hybrids existed, so i was super confused when pink hyacinths and blue pansies started growing. Then i learned what they were and got super determined for black roses and other cool hybrids!
I love your videos!
I got black roses for accident because i planted some roses in front of my house and in a few days i got the black roses

It is, this has been confirmed a long time ago. There is a Google Doc on it.
Where can I find this google doc?
B This is the google doc: docs.google.com/document/d/1ARIQCUc5YVEd01D7jtJT9EEJF45m07NXhAm4fOpNvCs/mobilebasic
Rebecca M. Well then how come no one’s been talking about it..?
Bought red rose seeds from my friends island, grew them and they bred both black and pink roses. Then when I had the one black rose sitting next to my red ones, watered with a gold can and next day golden roses sprouted, I think it’s just luck.
What if it's like real flowers o.o idk much about em but how pollen travels from different places to fertalize. So flowers from different island and city's have a higher spawn rate??? If i had the game is test by giving friend flowers from my isle.
It's genetics, some flowers have "better" genes then others which you can call luck if you get the colors that you want
Gold watering cans turn flowers or just roses gold.
From everything I've read, you can only get gold roses from watering black roses with the gold watering can, so that checks out I guess
I need your luck on my island
It's fun to have something you need to experiment with that there isn't a fool proof guide for yet, but at the same time I just want some flippin nice looking flowers.
You know ... I don't even try. I just plant the flowers randomly with a few spaces among them and keep watering daily. Eventually different colors will appear. Then I rearrange the flowers again and keep watering them. I go for simple luck.
I may be a bit late to respond here, but I believe that the flowers in Animal Crossing are related to Mendelevian Genetics (at least I think it's Mendelev?
To REALLY dumb it down, here are my findings:
- Each seed purchased from the shop is a purebred colored flower, meaning that they only have the color genes that they have (i.e: Red is only 4 Red genes, White is only 4 White genes, Yellow is only 4 yellow genes and Orange Windflowers have 4 Orange Genes. You'll see why I'm using 4 later to make this easier)
- Each flower gotten from the Hybrid Flower island is a purebred colored flower (i.e: Orange have 4 Orange genes, and Blue have 4 Blue genes)
- Genes can be dominant or recessive, similar to how real life genes work. Think eye colors and how some are more rare than others. Some have to have a mix of genes to achieve said color.
With that being said, you can use our trusty Punnett Square in order to figure out what each flower is when you breed it.
From my experiments of breeding flowers, I have made the following findings:
- Red Purebred and White Purebred can make Red Flowers, Pink Flowers, or rarely White Flowers (RR, Rw, ww)
- Red Purebred and Yellow Purebred can make Red Flowers, Orange Flowers, and rarely Yellow Flowers (RR, Ry, yy)
- Orange Windflowers plus any other color windflower seems to produce solely Orange Windflowers, but more testing is needed.
That Orange Tulip's Genes in sets must have the following:
- At least 1 Ry gene
- No more than 4 yy genes.
- No RR genes.
By cross-pollinating the Orange Tulip with a Yellow Purebred Tulip, you will get the following results:
- Orange Tulips with fewer Ry genes and more yy genes. This is less likely to happen.
- Yellow Tulips with only yy genes as y is recessive compared to the dominant R.
But what about those Tier 2 plants? Sure Tier 1 plants are easy to get but Tier 2 is a pain right? Well, kinda. Purebred Tier 1 plants, like those found on the Mystery Island are purebred, which means in your example, you have the following going on:
- Orange Purebred Pansies (Ry, Ry, Ry, Ry)
- Blue Purebred Pansies (bb, bb, bb, bb)
- Blue will be treated as recessive because I need to do further testing.

Purple windflower:
Pink + Blue = hybrid pink
Hybrid pink + Hybrid pink = Purple Windflower
Purple Pansy:
Blue + Red = Hybrid Red
Hybrid Red + Hybrid Red = Purple Pansy
Green Mum:
Red + Yellow = Hybrid Yellow
Hybrid Yellow + Hybrid Yellow = Green Mum
Blue Rose:
Purple + Orange = Hybrid Red
Hybrid Red + Hybrid Red = Blue Rose
I think this is a reasonable explanation for why flowers from mystery island have a better chance for getting tier 2 hybrids. They already are in the "hybrid" state. Meanwhile, tier 1 hybrids you breed from primary are not in "hybrid" state.
I have gotten purple wildflowers from hybrid blue + hybrid blue, hybrid pink + hybrid pink, and even hybrid blue + hybrid pink
However, I've never gotten a purple from regular blues and pinks I got from primary flowers.
I swear to god blue roses are impossible to get
You're surprisingly pleasant to listen to and also finally a video that admits - " nobody, including me, really knows what they're doing."

Every Friday and Saturday, hybrid flowers show up more frequently. I think thats why you got more Hybrids when you got back from the hybrid island
Damn balloons with their clay and their eggs!!!
When I realized hybrid flowers were a thing I was dead set on filling y island with black roses. Lo and behold, my island is not covered in black roses, the one exception being my park which is filled with fink flowers of all kinds.
i literally just filled an area on my island with pink flowers of different species today! i'm missing lilies and mums though :/
Imo they really over complicated flower genetics for this game. Makes hybrids not so much fun to get fjfjdnnsnfnf
Me in New Horizons:
"I didn't get hybrid flowers. I have no idea why"
"I got hybrid flowers. I have no oidea why"
Hope this helps!
this stressed me out in ways i cannot put into words
I've seen the different charts, read countless posts, watched several videos.. and this is the one that makes the most sense.
I know this is just a theory but it seems pretty concrete for 3 reasons:
(Between 1-3 per day i think, i remember almost always getting atleast 1 per day and getting none was a rare occurance)
When i got red or white lillies spawning i would add them to my ever growing breeding feild, because more primarys that i have to water means more hybrid spawns right?
I guess not, cause after getting the 'originals' and the 'babies' mixed up i very rarely got pink lily spawns. (Only 1 every few days)
After reading this theory i trashed my whole lily breeding field and made a new field with only flowers i bought from nooks or 'originals.' And i started getting plenty of pink lily spawns as i did at the start.
I think the basic conclusion is... hybrids make no sense in this game. xD
I found a hybrid cosmos island last week full of only orange and pink cosmos. Seeing this mystery island theory going around, I brought back a bunch and placed them into their own plot hoping to get a black cosmos. As of now (almost a week later), no black cosmos, just a single orange cosmos spawned. I've had more luck from the cosmos bought from my own island :/
I appreciated your take on the hybrids tho! Too many vids of various hybrid combos lol
It's awesome you found hybrid island and sad you couldn't get any black ones. Good to know hybrid island flowers aren't always the answer
Did you know: Isabelle gets her name from the shape of her head. The little topknot on her head complimented by her round yellow head merely ressembled bells; the in game currency. So the Nintendo team decided to name this Shi-tzu Isabelle, a play on words of Is-A-bell.
I got a hybrid flower island once and I didn't realise they where hybrids so I left all the flowers there
This video was posted a year ago, I’m aware but I have bred all the way to blue roses starting with roses I planted from seeds.
Love this video! It’s really helpful, thanks!

I’m such a noob! Didn’t even know this was a thing. Pretty impressive really. Now I have to make a flower garden 🤔
KORA have you check you flowers ACTUALLY breed irl???
Lets go all punnet Square on dem flowers
Flowers have genes and alleles, so that’s why you need hybrid red roses for blue roses and also why hybrids from mystery islands make tier 2 hybrids more often or are required to make tier 2 hybrids (they have the needed alleles). There’s a whole google doc about it (you can find the link in a reddit post by googling “ACNH advanced flower genetics”)
I've been trying to get a green mum for two weeks at this point. At least that's what it feels like. I am withering out here.
@@Annie-hb8ob YEAH I've just recently discovered I've been doing it wrong. I've got a different set up now and have one thing of hybrid yellows!
It’s pretty funny watching the frustration of early 2020 flower breeding, especially since it took ppl so long to realise that 2 specific flowers ‘mate for life’, and that the flowers genes matters…. Like it breads differently if it’s from another island/seed packet/ur own island

apart from my tier 1 hybrid hyacinths (which i got from a hybrid flower island) i’m proud to say i’ve bred almost every flower in animal crossing from the seed packets to the tiers!! a tip i have for y’all (if u don’t already know this) is to get 4 of ur friends (or in my case 4 strangers from an ac discord server) and fly them to ur island to water ur flowers. i used to water them by myself and time skip but damn it was so long and ineffective whereas after time skipping with 5 lots of people watering them, the amount of flowers u get is incredible!! i get 25 new flowers a day now (from just 1 watering session) from this method and it rlly helped me to get my hybrid numbers up :) also if anyone has any tips for getting blue roses or purple pansies/tulips then pleaseee let me know because i’m struggling pahahah
I don't know who needs to hear this but orange windflowers do absolutely nothing in breeding except make orange windflowers. Get them out of your patterns now.

- a black rose
-A purple rose
-an orange rose (😃)
-a bunch of pink roses
And yeah.
I really admire your content and I could go on forever explaining but I'm just saying I really thank you, and keep up the good work :D
Hiii! i know why the flowers from hybrid island worked.
*_*SUPER AWESOME TIP:*_*
_If you see that it's raining on your island, _*_write down the date and time!_*
You can actually time travel back to that exact date and time, and it will rain again!
(Also, plant your crossbreeding flowers in a long diagonal line, alternating as you go. 😁)
Purple Tulips took me forever until I started drowning in them
People: *Struggling with hybrid flowers*
Me letting flowers grow while I do other things and they spread massively to the point I got hybrids without looking for them: :D
6:35 "I time-traveled countless days to try to get these naturally" LOL
I didn’t actually know how to breed flowers until this video
Hybrid flowers drive me absolutely insane. They are probably one of my favorite things to go for in Animal Crossing (hence why I haven't just up and bought some stems on Nookazon), but sometimes my luck is just terrible. After 4 weeks I finally got 2 Hybrid Purple Mums, then like 5 days later I got a green mum. But then I have cases like my tulips. It took me maybe a week into the game to get two orange tulips. I just got purple tulips 4 days ago.
The only hybrid I have left to get is blue roses. This is going to take awhile.
I’m absolutely in love with EVERY SINGLE COSMOS and also yellow tulips, and black roses!
IM SO MAD THAT HYBRID ISLAND IS GONE
I love your videos so much I didn't know I needed these in my life
In a random area I just planted flowers because Isabelle told me to and when they were fully grown I was time traveling and when I was back to my original time I had hybrid lilies some were black, pink, and orange! The only colors I planted were Red,White, and yellow!
You can also make a transparent custom design to put around flowers if you don’t want them do spread!
0:47 that tarantula statue freaked me out
5:11 he do be chilling though
Got my first blue rose a few days ago, and they clone like crazy!
All i know is that breeding flowers in animal crossing new horizons is much more complicated than my calculus
This video is extremely underrated and useful. Thank you.
This is a long shot, but what if your airport color also determines the chances of you getting certain hybrid flowers?
So there is actually someone who data mined the stuff about flowers and it turns out that flower breeding uses dominant and recessive gene's, just like actual living things, and that some flowers are made through recessive gene's and the only flower that carry them are from hybrid island. There's a whole post about it online somewhere but it is EXTREMELY complicated
Im almost positive its the rate at which the hybrid spawns have to do with how many flowers you plant. once you go to a mystery island with hybrids you instantly have significantly more hybrids to breed then you did before so the spawn rates the next tier of hybrids spawn would be significantly more.
the hybrid island that I got was for tulips, and while after that I had no problem harvesting hybrid tulips, once I bred an ungodly amount of hybrid roses, I had no problem harvesting hybrid roses
thank god for the new animal crossing guide- it has an official and accurate breeding charts
So I’ve COVERED my island in every flower aaannnddd no luck... how can the most chilled game in the world be so stressful
Idk if this flower is rare or not but..
If you want blue windflowers, just put White windflowers next to White pansies 👁👄👁
Me: i wonder what other flowers grow on my island?
Purple pansies: it’s showtime
I love how Kora dosen't clickbait, i mean whatever she says in the title and thumbnail she will 100% do it in the video!
7:30 catch the god damn emperor butterfly
*laughs in i accidentally breed some black roses by throwing all of my flowers right next to eachother no matter what type of flower*
I have every flower in the game I got them all in about 4 months (no time travel). From experience I think that ANY flowers have a really really small chance of creating any color of the same species. Somehow I got my first purple rose from two pinks but I have not found a single guide saying that you can do that! I also got blue roses from primary flowers. ;w;
idk if anyone is interested but I started ACNH back in July and now (end of February/beginning of March) bred all hybrids there are from normal seed flowers (the last ones being purple pansies :') ). but I have to say that I only started proper breeding for the blue/purple variants in December since those just didn't want to pop up before. cosmos and lilies were the easiest to breed imo but maybe that's also because these were my native/sister flowers? but they also don't have many colour variants so there's that too^^ (hybrid island is still disabled btw)
the guide in the Blue Roses video is top notch, that's how I bred my blue roses and everything else that I missed.
I've only just started the flower breeding process. So far there has been no huge problems. Right now I have bred one single pink tulip, and my hyacinths are still blooming. Hoping to get to tier two hybrids in the next weeks!
Finnaly got the golden watering can
It’s related to the genetics of the flowers.
I have almost all of the flowers and I have been following a flower breeding guid and it’s been working!
a i got a purple tulip by placing a red and yellow one next to each other. it was in that moment that I realized that the new horizons flower breeding process was something i could never comprehend.
My secret to breeding flowers is not trying to get anything. Just watering flowers and whatever I get is what I get. Have no goals and just play the game. That's the best way to breed flowers. Stress free and you have more fun doing anything but trying to get rare flowers.
