Sky News missed to mention how this hydrigen is produced. The idea is to use mostly wind power ( and hydro) , and then electrolysis

even if this is gray or blue hydrogen still way more than using coal
They built nuclear
@@robindumpleton3742 In the mid 80s. But this idea is not based on those plants of which many are shut down.
Electric Power sources in Sweden are Nuclear, Wind and hydro.
This is just fantastic. Well done all! Science and hard work pay off again. Now to replicate across the world:)
No, its political and an very bad idea.
@@matsv201 if it works, and doesn’t emit carbon dioxide… it’s an improvement! Global warming is real, just ask the oil companies, they know better than anyone.
@@AmerBoyo no, its not an improvment because it uses more energy in a grid that have not coal and gas, so the CO2 is as an effect hgiher. Its also unrrsonably expensive, not only that, it also drives up the cost of Electric power.
@@matsv201 isnt that how all mayor industries develop, inefficient at first but getting cheaper the more the industry and infastructure around it develops?
also since a lot of costs like polution, damage to human health and emissions are externalized (as in the producers/facturies dont have to pay for them society does) its not that simple of a calculation in cost.

This looks awesome
Lots of plans for making green hydrogen up here in Scotland.
Hydrogen’s the answer I’ve being saying it for years.
Except producing hydrogen is very environmentally unfriendly…
@@Helium_Hunter In this case the source is wind power, not natural gas

Where do they get the hydrogen from
Super 👍🏻
All change comes with struggle to see the light 💡
Great work Sweden, less reliance on Russian gas and coal 🙂
Anybody heard of that new invention the electric arc furnace. It was invented about 100 years ago. Hmmmm
Hydrogen has always been the answer!
It's not a power source.
@@TurinTuramber nope, but it could definitely replace the current fuel used in combustion engines with zero emissions.

They make steel not to sell but to keep warm.

Just my thought. Who want msg in their food. Years ago I just buy without looking at the food package to see if there is any MSG ir now. Nowaday, it is a must for me to make sure the food I am buying has a label "No MSG".

All made with clean electricity.
I wonder how the electricity is produced.
Hydroelectric power plant and nuclear power plants 👍🏻
This must be breaking Sky News's heart.
At Cop26 what was decided was that money is more important than anything else
Why is the hydrogen steel more expensive.
good morning
Russia does not produce much Hydrogen... about the same as Europe.
So we could use that istead of coal.
TBH prices of things..especially from China are too cheap. It all ends up in waste disposal.
Hydrogen burns turns to water 💦
Some people don't seem to realize what a great project this will be for EU
1) No need to import any coal from outside EU
2) Electricity needed can be produced inside the EU with renewables
3) The money used to buy coal from abroad stays inside the EU
4) Whilst a bit more expensive than dirty Chinese poor quality steel, the whole purchase amount for the EU made steel stays inside the EU. We are talking about billions of euros of capital injection into EU economies.
5) In this new geopolitical climate, it is significantly important to retain domestic steel production that is not at the whims of any potentially hostile nation outside the EU
What I dont get is how blasting burning rocket fuel drying everything setting trees on fire out is good for the environment.
Sweden
This war will be won from two parts of which military is an old book, but economy and green power is a modern book.
Sounds like a scam.... how do they get the steel ore....
Dig it out of the ground?
They literally said they eliminated the most polluting part of steel production, not that the entire production process was suddenly environmentally friendly.
From Europe's largest iron ore mine "next door" in Kiruna, using Sandvik electrical mining machinery.
@@oskich where does the electric come from
@@anonymousone6075 No one knows, maybe from God himself, we hope.
not new still carbon needed otherwise steel never be steel
Of course it will cost more. Everything made from quality ingredients and parts does. Want cheap? Get Chinese plastic and tin... And have fun! Wuling mini is already sweeping the world doing just that!
Just as long as its energy efficient as doesn't horribly off-gas PM 2.5 like fossil fuels we'd all be better off!
More need for Russia
Russia does not produce much hydrogen... leaders are China, Middle East and the USA.
the best way is injecting water in a controlled way into blast furnece.
Good way to make a big explosion
How are they producing the Hydrogen tho…. This is the issue!
Hydrogen in this plant is made from water and electricity from the big river close by
How are they getting the hydrogen? … people need to pay attention in school.
From water or natural gas?
People should have to pass an exam to be declared adults. But here we are.
That whole mill was and is created by the very thing they are arguing against. Even the reporter reporting misses the fact that EVERYTHING indirectly and directly comes from the production of steel. It's not about paying a little bit more for a car, it will mean paying HUGE sums for everything. They also kindly omitted the amount of steel they produce each year as well. I'm currently a steelworker for the past 24yrs. There was a lot not spoken about in this video...conveniently

hydrogen is not green.
Hydrogen in this plant is made from water and electricity from the big river close by.
Hydrogen is greener than Electric.
First there are several different ways if making Hydrogen and one of hem are "Green Hydrogen" and that is the most expensive one. Second, not even farts are totally green. So do google the different ways of making Hydrogen.
Depends on the electricity used. In this case it is.
It can be. As in this case. By wind power.
This is a horribly bad idea.
The issue is that it way less efficent, and due to swedish grid is conected ro Finland, lithuania, poland, germany and Danmark, all burning coal, the net effect is that more coal is used in reality.
Hydrogen is not a green fuel. It is primarily produced by using natural gas (a fossil fuel). Yes Hydrogen can be made by electrolysis and solar panels, but is takes WAY to long to create enough hydrogen to power a forge or a car.
By electrolysis using using hydro power, therefore making it green aswell.
Wind and tidal power make green electricity on a commercial scale already and companies are queuing up to invest in them up here in Scotland.
Or we can use coal and drown our cities.
@Jay Dee yes, and this plant and similar plant and test facilities are located close to hydro plants and are building more windmills in the area
