  • In this video I put my Hioki IR4057 Insulation Resistance Instrument to task by measuring low resistance resistors. As you know, its main purpose was to test insulation resistance up to 4,000 Mega-Ohm. But it has a lesser known ability to measure low resistance with a resolution of 0.01Ω. It's not a dedicated, high precision, low resistance meter. But it may be useful in certain cases where high accuracy isn't essential. I appreciate your support by subscribing. Thanks for watching. Keep safe!

How to check IR Value 1phase and 3phase.

If you mean feeder or branch circuits, the basic principles are the same. The circuits should be completely de-energized and all loads disconnected before testing their insulation resistance. But there's a lot more than this. So if you wish to know more I suggest further reading, or better yet training for safety and proper implementation.

Thanks for your comments. I think you were asking where low resistance testing can be used? I believe it can be important in testing for contact resistance, for example, of switches, connectors, breakers, & relays. High resistance in these devices may indicate oxidation and poor contact, which can lead to heat. It can also be used to check for conductivity of wiring conductors- the lower the resistance the better. I'm sure there are other applications for it.
While you can do these tasks using the Ohmmeter function of a general purpose digital multimeter, their Ohmmeter often cannot go below 1 Ohm. You cannot also calibrate their test leads to start at zero Ohms. So, if you want below 1Ω value, & you need to eliminate test leads' resistance, you need something else.
Although the IR4057 not a dedicated low resistance meter, it has a relatively good resolution (0.01Ω), 200mA testing current, & zero ohm adjuster (0.00Ω). So it can quickly test for low resistance (below 1Ω) when very high accuracy and precision aren't critical.

@@narayanaya5519 Thanks for watching my videos. I share what I can & I also learn from others. Congratulations on your new IR4056-20👍! It has a low resistance function also. It is made in Japan & I am sure it will serve you well as an AC technician & in your other electrical projects, too. Good luck!
