I'd trade anything for the hash brown MRE , then traid a first strike bare for tortillas. I was feasting in the field. And side story through out all of ITB "infantry training battalion" I knew a guy that would collect all the Cheese spread from everyone, and by the end of the cycle he had 2 foot lockers packed with cheese spread. The day before graduation we had to field day the house... He took all his 200 + cheese spreads and threw them away. Our combat instructor walked in . Saw the spreads and said "at ease..... Where tf did all this cheese come from?"

we had a family day and we let the kids try MRE's. my daughter who was 3 at the time said; " daddy this is yucky, I'll buy you donalds, but can I have the toy? " was the sweetest thing ever.

Whenever people say they are going to eat 'pasta' or 'spaghetti' without calling the dish by it's name. It's going to be bad. There are so many variations, that if you reduce the meal to its base ingredient. Then you aren't very good at making that meal. Students in my city love the spaghetti "Bolo" (bolognese), if I hear people my age say this, I know I'm getting a factory made saus with precut veggies and a little cheese. Then there is one in four that also has to add that they are decent cooks.
And then there is me, actually able to prepare meals from scratch.
I've had a roommate once who was incredibly proud he finally baked an egg, after living here for 6 months already. Don't ask how he avoided cooking diner, it's as disappointing as his cooking skills. Then he started to train himself and he got quite mad that I didn't think his 2,50 euro meals had any flavor. We ended up never cooking food for each other after 4 (!) years, simply because he thought his food tasted great... and I was eating rice (separately prepared) veggies (separately served) and meat, baked separately. Then he mixed everything at the end. He had a meal.
I learned to cook, because my mother is just as horrible at cooking as that roommate, but she tosses an entire salade on top of that bare-bones meal as well. Dressing and all.
It should me mandatory to know how good of a cook you really are.

I didn't have my friends,my father,my mother,brothers and sisters. I was all alone

MREs are really underrated. Some are incredibly good. I pack them when I go camping and I honestly really enjoy them.
@Gas Pack The only MREs I like to use the heater on are ones that are kind of liquidy like chili or stew. I’ll still gladly eat them without it, but I just prefer them warm. Other than that I prefer to eat pretty much any MRE cold. Still tastes just as good.

Not sure if they changed something in Basic or she had some special extra training or something. But back when I was in the Air Force we at 1, yes ONE MRE the whole time we were in basic traning. That was the same day we ran the obstacle course. Every other meal was at a chow hall.

This was a really great episode. I send so much gratitude and respect to all members of our American military.
I also love how the kids don't take their lives for granted. Some of their parents said they're about to be deployed, but they understand the importance of the situation.
Lastly, Celine is so adorable.
nintenmetro Are all the American servicemen like these kids parents will also be deployed in dangerous places like in Syria or Iraq? Or they will just be deployed in some overseas military bases like in Japan or Korea
alex zaldivar Honestly I'm not sure, but I've met people with different stories. I won't disclose much, but some get sent to divisions where troops and supplies are running low. Of course, said individuals need to have what it takes to fill those gaps.
alex zaldivar My parents get deployed a lot. Two years ago they were in Romania and this year they were in south korea march-april and from april-june my mom is in australia and my dad is in guam. They get sent overseas mainly so i think where you are sent depends on your branch
Them not mentioning the poppy seed cake the chili Mac MRE comes with is criminal. Tom is a real hero for sacrificing that.
