I sang this arrangement in my high school acapella choir, and hearing this arrangement brings tears to my eyes. It's beautiful and you sing it beautifully.
@@maddiemauch8265 I'm sorry i had a different experience my teach scared the hell out of us because it was gifted choir, but she had great taste in music and we sung this and the music always brings me joy weirdly lol
In every heart there is a room A sanctuary safe and strong To heal the wounds from lovers past Until a new one comes along I spoke to you in cautious tones You answered me with no pretense And still I feel I said too much My silence is my self defense And every time I've held a rose It seems I only felt the thorns And so it goes, and so it goes And so will you soon I suppose But if my silence made you leave Then that would be my worst mistake So I will share this room with you And you can have this heart to break And this is why my eyes are closed It's just as well for all I've seen And so it goes, and so it goes And you're the only one who knows So I would choose to be with you That's if the choice were mine to make But you can make decisions too And you can have this heart to break And so it goes, and so it goes And you're the only one who knows
I was dropped out of choir. Neither me or the director wanted that, we both cried that day :( Thankfully, the director still allowed me to perform with them. However, I was going to have to learn the songs myself. I did actually have a friend who helped me the first time (back then we had musical together so we had time to practice; now we don’t ). I do have a couple days where I can get out of my classes to rehearse but for now it’s just me. That’s why I’m here trying to get a sense of parts. IM AN ALTO BTW, and yes I can’t screw in the light bulb.
Me and the rest of the seniors in my school’s show choir are singing this arrangement at our graduation ceremony this weekend. It’s bittersweet, but it truly encapsulates all the emotions that come with leaving behind the family we worked so hard to create. Thank you Bob Chilcott for this beautiful piece of music :)
Bob Chilcott strikes again. What a fantastic arrangement! His Shepherds Carol is one of my all-time favourites. He's come a long way since he recorded Pie Jesu from the Faure Requiem as a boy chorister with King's College Choir, Cambridge. I think this recording of Billy's piece does it justice. Congratulations to all involved.
Have listened to all the choral versions and think this is the best. Had the privilege of attendimg a workshop with Bob Chillcott, such a kind and warm and wonderful person. ,
I heard this song for the first time today, and it took my breath away. What a poignant and beautifully haunting song! Coincidentally, the reason I looked it up is because I heard the last phrase of the song at the end of an episode of Boston Legal, starring...William Shatner.
As far as I understand, it is about somebody, who fell in love, after (s)he recovered from a previous relationship. the person is very cautious and shy, because (s)he doesn't want to hurt or be hurt. On the other hand the person fears that (s)he didn't open up enough and left a cold and unemotional impression. He or she wants to be with the new found love, but at the same time knows, that it's not his/her choice to make, yet she or he gives her heart gladly. To me it seems like a very gentle commitment to love itself, eventhough or rather BECAUSE it is such a fragile thing, without knowing if it will be fulfilled. So while the end of the story is rather unclear, the message of the song is - in my opinion - very positive. In ev'ry heart there is a room, a sanctuary safe and strong. To heal the wounds from lovers past, until a new one comes along. I spoke to you in cautious tones; you answered me with no pretense. And still I feel I said too much. My silence is my selfdefence. And ev'rytime I've held a rose it seems I only felt the thorns. And so it goes and so it goes and so will you soon I suppose. But if my silence made you leave, then that would be my worst mistake. So I will share this room with you. And you can have this heart to break. And this is why my eyes are closed, it's just as well for all I've seen. And so it goes and so it goes and you're the only one who knows. So I would choose to be with you. That's if the choice were mine to make. But you can make desicions too. And you can have this heart to break. And so it goes and so it goes and you're the only one who knows.
I like the arrangement, but am slightly disappointed at the size of the choir doing the piece, as it could be detrimental to the musicality of the song with so many people singing it.

Beautiful performance, very sensitive and disciplined, of a lovely arrangement of this song. Shame it was just a still picture.
I love the tempo, just the right pace

Anticipating the piano but it never showed up. 🎹

big sad
This type of song works better with a quartet, but this is still very good
can somone tell me the story of thia song or the meaning? good end?

Kein Problem. Gerne!
You should ask Billy Joel! ;)

I like the arrangement, but am slightly disappointed at the size of the choir doing the piece, as it could be detrimental to the musicality of the song with so many people singing it.
I agree. I think this song works well with 8 singers
Especially when they're all doing vibrato.
Well, I think they make a beautiful job of it!
Stephen Estall Me too. There’s 25 in our choir & we’ll do it lovely. Kings Singers would be pleased with that I’m sure.
I was told this arrangement of this song was made for big choirs. I sang this at my honor choir and we had 103 people and it sounded amazing
They sing it so beatifully, but they don't articulate properly. I only hear every other word, such a pity!
