As someone who used to have the same exact job I literally did the same thing watching shows as an employee including Taylor Swift I was just fortunate enough to not get fired.
Damn! Dude got in trouble just for singing along and basically not even breaking the rules by having complete strangers film him with their own phones. That security company is just mad they were outsmarted.
A security guard was concerned about getting videos of himself by complete strangers during his job. I feel like that is the definition of breaking the rules.
It's called being a professional on the job and not violating the spirit of the company's policy. But young people think they're smarter and insist on finding loopholes.
@@intellectualsmokeI mean makes sense. He went out of his way to break rules, deliberately knowing the consequences. And after posting the videos I presume, this just made it seem like a fan can become a security guard to simply get into a concert for free. So I understand why he would be fired. Could you though explain like the actual reason or like a written reason for him being let go. Like it makes sense but I wonder what the written reason is.
Passing notes, singing, worrying about getting photo opportunities.... he was clearly distracted from performing an important front line security role and they could easily replace him with someone who could do the job better, so not really surprising he got fired. I bet they caught him doing the same thing at the sheeran concert a month later and that's why they fired him on the spot.
That's honestly so stupid 🙄. He didn't even take a picture of himself behind Taylor Swift. The company probably needs to be worried about other things than that

I feel for him. If you were ..him, I fully guess you'd do those gestures to get all the memories. He likes the singer, he is a FAN too, you will definitely know how he felt the entire 3hrs time having his favourite superstar just mere meters behind him.
him being a fan is exactly why he shouldnt have been given these gigs as security detail. 1) Hes clearly entirely distracted from his task, he is asking fans to take photos for him and hes singing the lyrics with his eyes closed. 2) Him being a fan is a conflict of interest, his job is to watch the crowd, not imagine what Taylor looks like behind him the entire time. Its clearly a dude who just wanted to get close to musical acts by being hired to work security. From the looks of it this dude couldnt secure a velcro strap but anyway.
to me the job would be more important, than posting selfies of me and the singer...Why do people allways have to have their own face in every photo? I much rather see pics of singers without my or my friends faces in it!!!!
If that's all he did, I don't feel it's worth being terminated for. Not even close. Compared to all the thugs I've seen working security, he's an aberration, and is a quality person, but they let him go. If his employer had issues, just give him a 15 minute talk, and at worse, a warning.
I don't think what he did was "wrong" morally but I get why a policy like that exists. You don't want security guards annoying the clients by fanboying out or, worse even, behaving like quasi paparazzi.
As a security officer that’s done event security His company was completely right to fire him How you a guard and put a sign to record or take pictures of me Everyone defending him don’t realize if it was your business you whouldnt like this guy risking potential 6 figure pay day for your company
Well, he has plenty of video of how serious he takes his job, keeping his eyes on the crowd and ensuring their wellbeing the whole time, which for a Swiftie with Taylor right there behind him, would be ridiculously hard. Given past history, if TS becomes aware of this story, there'll be a persoally-made basket of thank-you goodies heading his way, along with a hand written note appreciating his work. She treats her fans better then most compaines treat employees.
None of that is happening! Taylor has better things to do than follow a story in MN. This story is from 2 weeks ago and T-Swizzle is overseas on the European leg of her tour. HE DIDN'T DO HIS JOB!!!! Idky that is so hard for folks to grasp. So, if the daycare employee left your sleeping baby alone in a crib w/a baby video monitor watching you would be okay bc the video was attached the employee's cell phone? That employee was still doing his job by watching your baby.
@@CC-si3crbut he DID do his job. He wasn’t allowed to turn around or use his phone. He did neither. Him singing mindlessly to songs he can unconsciously remember the words to has little to no bearing - in fact it would likely be more distracting for him to try not to sing.
@@itsmaebtw I don't CC knows about how often Taylor watches and comments on her fans live streams. If any are discussing this story, she knows about it, regardless of where she is. :)
He should actually be applauded for not only adhering to rules of his position but also for being creative at getting a once in a lifetime images. It doesn't seem like he broke any rules.
@@jaywholoveseveryone1721 what rule was that? Please state the rule. He didn't turn around to watch the show or look at TS. There is plenty of photos and videos of him doing his duty to show in his defense. Would it even be on the news if it were a simple case of a justified firing? Someone getting fired for breaking a known rule is not really a Newsworthy event.

I see sooo many videos of other security always singing along, dancing, engaging with the fans etc. and he gets fired for standing in one spot and having a pic taken?… wild lmao 😂
It's because he handed out the note requesting it. Tbh if he had asked fans in the front row either before or during, vocally, not with a note, he wouldn't have any proof. Don't give companies an opportunity to come back at you. I'd like to note that I feel this company is shitty as well. @@antoniogalio4960 well you can get that moment without the liability lol. As much as I understand what he wanted, there are risks no matter how he wouldve approached the scenario. Not using note would deceased the risk but not completely.
He wasn't fired for singing along or engaging with the fans. he was fired for violating the rule against security people having their photo taken with the client. This is in virtually all venue contracts. Had they not fired him the security company could have lost their next contract.
I used to be a security supervisor years ago, and you are expected to watch the crowd and not the act. That's your job, that's why you are there and the only reason you are that close. You decided to sacrifice your job to act like a fan, ok, deal with the consequences of your decision.
Im not a swiftie myself but i totally get why this guy would do this, Taylors an icon. Jobs come and go through life but he may never have a moment like this again!
Not sure why he was fired for this. He seemed to be doing his job, and just wanted a photo of the biggest star on the planet. Unless he did something again, at the next concert he worked on, after he was spoken too, then they should have just looked the other way. People are human, and this wasn't really that big a deal.
i think it was more about the security concerns for the artists and performers. Yeah HE was a good guy, but now that people know "if you cant get tickets, become a security gaurd for the person you want to go see" there becomes a safety concern for the artist and those performing or even attending. imagine your singing and a stalker whose dangerous gets by your security backstage because he or she was a vetted guard? He exploited a loophole he should have kept for himself because now if i was this security company, id be worried about my integrity of letting something like this happen. it is a business after all
In the grand scheme of things, you’re right, it probably doesn’t matter. While it was unfortunate that he got fired, we also have to understand that from the company’s perspective, seeing an employee deliberately finding a loophole to guidelines, could have been a concern as it could have a snowball effect for other employees who may end up thinking the same way in the next events they handle.
@@Krobra91You’re reaching. The video already stated he was background checked and Taylor’s team did additional security screening. I highly doubt these companies just hire one time security personnel. They probably have a roster of folks who work multiple gigs, like a catering company that hires servers. Also, this isn’t a new concept. People work as ushers for plays and musicals so they can attend the show too. I’ve volunteered for big galas so I can attend the parties. I’m sure he’s not the first guy to work at a sports arena or concert venue simply for the perk of attending. However, this news story now promotes it by broadcasting this idea.
@@SL-lz9jrRight, but he proved himself to be potentially dangerous. You cannot be too safe if you’re a security company, one crazy guard will ruin your business. They did all the background checks, but there’s absolutely no way to be sure of what someone will do in the future.
He wanted a photo with a human being who has the exact same as him: in this world and a human. We are all so for celebs but forget that they are just the same as us
I was a supervisor with a different security company and honestly I'm a little impressed. I was once yelled at by an artists security team because I glanced over my shoulder as a reaction to the audience's reaction to what was happening on stage. It was my favorite band, and yes, I sang along to every song. There's a fine line between being a good security guard and being professional. The way I see it, if a guard is paying attention to his surroundings, is protecting the artists, the audience, the crew and other staff, all the equipment and the venue... then who really cares if they're singing along while they do it? I've seen guards hand their phones to random strangers before to get their photos, and I've seen them give out their info to receive other people's photos... the only thing I see inappropriate here is the fact that he handed out those cards and left a paper trail. Artists have their own undercover security detail planted in the front at every show, next concert you go to look for them, they'll be up front watching security or looking around instead of watching the show. And understand that it's not hard at all to get a job doing event security, I heard another kid got hired in California just so he could go to her concert and then broke a bunch of rules and either got fired or quit. I've found abandoned polos in bathrooms and porta pots from people that just wanted to get into concerts, and female artists have way more than their fair share of stalkers so I imagine TS's security detail has had to crack down and be extra strict about things. Still doesn't change the fact that it looks like they let go of a decent, effective guard over some silly policy when a write up or 2 week suspension would've been enough, they clearly made an example out of him as a threat to future guards.
Good as they should. That grown man was acting like a child. He admitted on his TikTok to getting the job just cuz he wanted to run events and specifically Taylor swifts this news story isn’t 100% accurate

Because the videos shown in this video, showed him literally singing with his head turned away from the audience and it almost looks like his eyes were closed. Having time to pass notes, again, is another distraction. He was there to guard Taylor but he was also there acting like a fan. I, personally, wouldn’t of fired him. That might be right but there was a big distance and barrier between Taylor and the audience unlike the times other celebrities got attacked or had someone get too close on stage, she even looked pretty far away from him so it's unlikely that she'd be in immediate danger of someone attacking her.
Agreed on this. People don't get it. I worked for a couple of years as a bouncer in a bar and you can't be socializing or distracted, or you'll miss what you're being paid to catch. It is a serious problem when your security is distracted by anything. He should not be working there as it seems he is unable to focus on his very important job. First time a serious mistake happens, he is involved, and proof of him being distracted has already happened, the company would be in major lawsuit territory. They must prove they legally are willing to put safety and security first, by firing this individual. It is unfortunate.
Best security personnel dont let their emotions cloud their judgment either way. On one hand if a guard is a fan they are honestly going to be distracted in that situation and he demonstrated that he was. @@SaravanjaSteele He is a nice guy and this video seems innocent enough but there's another video of him dancing and closing his eyes while he sang. His job is all about safety to be prepared but anyone who is determined to get past him has a better chance when he's partially engaged in an activity other than focusing on security.
tbh unless there was something going wrong in the audience, i don’t see why he should be fired, as long as he’s still doing his job there shouldn’t be an issue
keep going man. the only lesson here is to make sure your antics DON'T become viral until much much time after. companies HATE unnecessary attention caused by viral news
absolute rubbish... he was doing his job ,did not turn around and just wanted a happy memory. stop being sensitive and precious like everybody these days .. live a little
He still wrote that little paragraph and flagged down paying fans which was very unprofessional. If you’re working security and focused on snapping pics with the celebrity you should be protecting, then you don’t deserve that job. Although yeah it was a silly mistake on his part, I personally think the security studio made a good call.
I bet you he was singing at the Ed Sheeran show and they knew he was already a distraction from the Swift shows. It sounds harsh, but security isn't there to enjoy the show or draw attention way from it in any way possible, they're paid to act stoic and keep fans from jumping the barrier. Anyone who has ever stepped foot at any concert or event, anyone who has worked a show, knows this is not only commonplace-- It's their JOB. Enjoy the 15 seconds of fame and a new job kid, it's not the end of the world!
he only wanted a picture and a memory I dont see why they should fire him for that. This just shows that we are not humans i feel so disgust hope they burn in hell the company who fired him.
Protocols & rules are there for a reason. The security team are there for one job. To protect the people on stage & the people in the audience/ crowd. Just think about if everyone on the security team was fangirling over the celebrities. That makes it a bit scary. He seems like a nice guy, and he has some awesome memories, but I don't blame the security company for 'nipping that in the bud'
Did he not do that job? There's no footage of him losing his composure (at least, none that is mentioned in the report here), he didn't turn around, and he didn't record anything himself. They could have issued a warning.
Yes guys, as an Event Security Supervisor for 5 years, if you come to work with the goal of getting a picture with the talent. Buy a ticket. Your job is to be the few people there NOT starstruck. You’re not there to ask the fans to get a picture of you. As far as him being on the barricade, he was kinda set up for failure being a huge swifty. Not only can you be seen by all the fans and the artist, tour security (artist personal security managers) heavily observes you to make sure the area closest to the stage is secure. Apart from a few companies, you MUST remain professional, and the goal is to NEVER draw attention to yourself with the exception of being a presence. The fact that there’s video of him happily singing along is the opposite of what you’re supposed to do. He could’ve told management that he couldn’t handle that position that night and he probably could’ve snuck many videos from the seating bowl and sang along with fans WITHOUT getting caught by his bosses. Gate security or the roaming crew get so many opportunities to sneak off and disappear. Event Security is a really fun job but you have to play the game correctly or you’ll get fired like he did.
Agree completely, all other opinions are just people who think they can have it all. If your in charge of other peoples security it's not about having it all, even if you find some work around... If some incident would have happened everyone would jump the blame train if they seen his badge with the request and him singing along..
This is very interesting because I work for the same company and I used to do the exact same thing. I would schedule myself only to the events I wanted to work and I made sure to get poster right around the stage. But I never thought about making those little cars he did what I would do is I would handle my cell phone to the fans also right next to me and tell them to take pictures and film me and I also posted them and never got in trouble. I did this for numerous concerts such as Jessica Simpson back of the day Metallica Green Day Britney Spears. Half of the employees that work there only work there part-time to do the exact same thing go to the concert and you will see them also singing and dancing at the concert and the other half will do it for the money. You can tell who does it only for the free concerts because you never see them at any events and only popular artists concerts. Same goes for the sports fans. Tons of employees only work the sporting events for the teams they like and after the season is over they don't schedule themselves.
Technically he did not break the rules but he was trying to find ways to skirt around it making him unprofessional and unfocused. Which means while on duty he constantly has to find people to take vids and pics of him instead of working.
Imagine caping for a company you had no idea existed yesterday🤭 No matter how deluded your desk makes you, you’re just as expandable as this young man. I wish there was a word for corporate pick-mes🙄
It's like you have trouble comprehending things. He handed out some cards before the show even started. Then, he did his job. He was neither unprofessional or unfocused. I bet wherever you work, you're in HR.
I actually side with the security company. The employee can’t have the appearance of being an attendee. They want an heir of professionalism and safety. He was trained and knew what was expected of him. He may have been creative, however, he pushed the boundaries. As a concert-goer, I wouldn’t appreciate his actions. Instead, it’s a 2-night concert, so work 1 night, and attend the concert the other night.
The Swifties in the comment section don't realize he made the security company look incompetent and probably pissed off Swift's security team. Career advice to young people - don't try to interpret company rules if you want to keep your job. The company is judge, jury, and executioner.
@@Kopie0830 Inconspicuous?? This isn’t an undercover assignment. In this case, presence is key. I’d also point out that he’s wearing a uniform, so there’s that too…
The bigger picture is if they accepted this behavior people would be lining up to be security and doing this at every concert causing a hazard and needing security for the security. You cannot be acting like a crazed fan with more and more boundaries being dropped to where it potentially becomes a dangerous situation.
He said it himself on his Tik Tok, I took the job so that I could go to a Taylor Swift concert for free. This is not the right motivation to take a security job. The security is there to keep the artist safe and pay close attention to safety hazards. Not to lip sync and ask the crowd to take videos of you.
Fair criticism but if he had faltered at his job or endangered anyone he wouldn’t have gotten extra assignments on top of the Ed Sheeran concert - it’s just that the call list is so oversaturated they don’t mind cutting off a deviator to make a point.
Sounds like he didn't do it just at Taylor's show, but also Ed Sheeran as well. That we know of. If it had just been once, like a once in a lifetime thing at the TS show, I think his employer would've let him off with a warning. But it's like he views the security job as a work-around for seeing free shows & getting up close & personal with stars & getting selfies with them. If one employee is allowed to do this repeatedly, they'll all be doing it. Then gesturing. Then waving. Then doing dance moves. Then putting the client on stage and the concert-goers at risk by being distracted & creating opportunities for security to be breached. His employer is paying him, & is liable for any issues that arise if he's not doing his job properly.
I've been doing Stage Event Security for 15+ years and unfortunately, this is a huge policy violation at any venue and cause for dismissal. Anyone that accepts that role knows the consequences going in. That said had he simply kept his glances discreet, all would have been cool.
*What an idiot. I would have fired him as well. What he did was circumvent the rules but he still broke the rules.* *They have their reason for why they don't want security guards taking pictures with the celebrity they are supposed to be protecting and that's all that matters.

In the 90s when I was 16, my Dad was security at a hotel that musicians frequented when they were in town. Chicago, U2 and Van Halen to name a few.
With U2 a younger security guy approached the band in the pool area to get an autograph. They were nice and obliged but he was later fired. I was a huge Van Halen fan, but my Dad couldnt get an autograph for me. It worked out though, I was able to meet them on my own 15 yrs later =)

Lol to be real, there’s literally video of him with his guard down. Not saying him being fired was justified. But he was indeed distracted. You can’t even argue otherwise, despite what he says.
I would just replace him with another security guard and have him do some retraining lol. And everyone who is 100% with his actions, haven’t been around long enough to see celebrities (super models, singers, actors) actually being pulled, harassed or attacked by fans ON STAGE. Very easily.
That might be right but there was a big distance and barrier between Taylor and the audience unlike the times other celebrities got attacked or had someone get too close on stage, she even looked pretty far away from him so it's unlikely that she'd be in immediate danger of someone attacking her.
@@mdgsk824the barrier and the distance is an additional layer of security. That doesn't mean the other one, the guard, should be laxed.
Agreed on this. People don't get it. I worked for a couple of years as a bouncer in a bar and you can't be socializing or distracted, or you'll miss what you're being paid to catch. It only takes a moment for some rabid fan to breach security, and if you're caught up with singing along you'll miss it.
I mean, the rules were made clear to him and he even acknowledged that he understood the rules. He tried to find a loophole and it failed.
He did not break any rules. The company invented new once because they did not like what he did.
He would have been fine if he didn’t post anything about it
He didn’t break any rules? He didn’t turn around he kept eyes on the crowed as he should, an he did not use his phone, THOSE where the rules and he followed them. Different security companies, different rules I’m assuming… but idk, there is probably more to his firing than “he sang along”
I thought he was going to be fired for hitting on her....the consequences of human autonomy is becoming a liability
I agree with the company. He is being paid to do a job not attend a concert. If he wanted to be part of the concert than buy a ticket!
I'm not surprised. I used to work concert security and was posted in some important places (front of stage, back stage etc.) and doing stuff like this would get you terminated.
You're there to work not get your photo taken with the band no matter how cute you get with the rules.
What's funny is he probably was in tons of people's videos anyway so he probably would have gotten the same results without getting fired.
Yeah but those rules are stupid lol.
I understand having tight security but this doesn't put Taylor or anyone in danger. They need to lighten up a little.
He was the first line of defense for Taylor, I agree he probably wasn’t able to react if something bad did happen. He was unfocused and that’s when bad things happen.

I try very hard, NOT to hire the ADHD, attention span of a Golden Retriever, types.
Best security personnel dont let their emotions cloud their judgment either way. On one hand if a guard is a fan they are honestly going to be distracted in that situation and he demonstrated that he was. On the other hand, they can also get worked up and overreact to things or panic at the magnitude of the situation which leaves their person in danger. So i can sympathize with him as a fan, but its not surprising he lost his job. Im glad he still has something else. Of you are a Swifty keep it as a hobby.

I agree 100%. I was in the business most of my life and it's critical that fans do not see you appear to be enjoying yourself. I didn't see anyone mention this. Security guards, especially the ones at the stage, have to be dispassionate and completely professional because there are fans who would give anything to be in their position. Smiling and singing and making it obvious that you're a fan and enjoying being there is like a big "HAHA" to the fans seeing you standing there. Yes, some might be happy for you (like many commenters here) but many fans would resent it. That's a big reason why you must focus on your job and not act like you're a fan because then you could actually become a target for some crazy fans, which is exactly what you are there to try and avoid. All it takes is one jealous, resentful fan to create a dangerous situation for the artists and other fans.

To fire him is a little excessive. Don't assign the guy to the floor then if he pulls stunts like this.
I actually agree with this decision. The guy was doing a lot of stuff that was distracting and compromising to his job.
That’s a serious job to protect her. I don’t think I’d want someone protecting me to be singing and in the clouds so I get it.
*What an idiot. I would have fired him as well. What he did was circumvent the rules but he still broke the rules.* *They have their reason for why they don't want security guards taking pictures with the celebrity they are supposed to be protecting and that's all that matters. If he wanted pictures, he could have bought tickets like everyone else and then taken all the pictures he wanted.* *Nor would I hire any of these people in the comments section below who think he didn't do anything wrong.* *These are the people who didn't listen to their parents growing up and think they can do whatever they want without any consequences.* *Glad he found another job, but if didn't like the company rules, he shouldn't be working for them in the first place.*
THIS! The amount of people sticking up for this idiot in the comments is wild! 😣
