Hop forgot to mention that the original Romeo zero has a _plastic_ lens while the Elite is glass. The polycarbonate lens is extremely easy to scratch which is a problem when you're constantly hitting it with your fingernail trying to set the brightness.
that if frustrating, but honestly if you like circle dot, and micro pistols is a new battery every 2 months to play it safe too much? imo, no, even with the annoyance of having to re-zero
Hey look my favorite prepper channel is bleeding over into one of my favorite firearms channels :D anyway I agree with your statement, some of the Sig RDO's are great, like the og Romeo 5 for example, but for pistol RDS, my choice is going to be the Holosun every time. I own two of the Holosun optics now. They are solid.
A micro 9mm is probably going to get used in the city not innawoods if at all. Most places in the city have warm colored lights. Or maybe you like putting micro red dots on your 10mm, you do you.
I have the Holosun 407k red dot mounted on my Sig P365X and it’s been great, I like the 6 MOA dot size and it works really well for my needs. I have a G43X that I am thinking of getting the slide milled and was thinking going with the RMRcc, but the new Holosun EPS carry has me doubting that choice!
I have the 407k on a sig 365x with the 6moa dot. The dot is fine, but I prefer the smaller 2-3 moa dot. Though the bigger dot is easier to find on initial draw, which is only a problem until you get use to the red dot.
From someone who lives in East TN where it is basically a jungle here most of the year my Holosun green dot doesn't blend in with any green foilage background. Nothing in nature looks like a glowing green dot. I used to run red dots and when I have the option I always choose green now because they stand out so much better than any red dot I have ever used.
I wholeheartedly agree. Majority of my shooting is in the woods and never lost my green dot in the green of nature. Only thing I will say is I like green dots when the pistol has red/ orange front sight and red dot when my front sight is green colored , but if I can make the front red/orange so I can use a green dot I will
I can’t speak for anyone else but me personally, I’m colorblind and I lose a red dot in green foliage or a city “brick” environment very easily compared to a green dot. I have an HE407C-GR and I can see it very clearly compared to other red dots I’ve tried. Especially red dots on ARs trying to shoot 100 yards, the red disappears into the trees.
I've never seen your channel before, but I gotta say that this is probably the most informed and factual review I've seen. Really great job. Thanks, and I look forward to more content from you.
Great comparison video, Hop! Many folks who prefer the green dot over red, saying the green is easier to pick up, may actually be experiencing a slight color blindness. The red color spectrum is harder for many people to see as clearly. That's why, for heightened safety, there was a push a few decades ago to change the color of firetrucks to that slightly lime green color.
There have been a number of studies involving emergency vehicles painted safety lime yellow versus red. The outcome is that red vehicles are in three times more accidents than vehicles painted safety lime yellow.
THANK YOU!! I've been tempted to go with the Romeo Zero Elite. Cost and updates make it tempting. Having a 507k already, I am happy, and this RZE is just a straight up NO!!! Thank you for the info. HS for the win. Also worth noting--the smaller battery of the EPS is surprising. I didn't see that coming. Appreciated.
The green works better in yellow/tan/brown environments. Desert, heavy clay, etc. Not saying at all that it's better or worse, but in my context of using a colored dot sight I've always preferred green. The red is still perfectly usable in almost any evironment in my experience though. It's definitely not worth having a green dot if it's at all detrimental to overall brightness or battery life.
It's also highly dependent on each person's eyes/eyesight as to what is "easier" to see, but green light is much higher energy wavelength and will always drain batteries faster in similar emitter devices.

I like this guy Hop, he's very thorough in his reviews! I haven't had the best of luck with micro red dot installation. First on my XDm ELITE 4.5 inch OSP in FDE I ordered the #1 plate from Springfield Armory and seen online somewhere the Athlon Midas TsR1 would fit that plate, so $240 later I try to install and it all lines up perfectly but the screws weren't right. They either weren't big enough or to big or they needed to be big on top and slim on the bottom. So the Athlon went on my FX-9 with the picatinny mount it came with. Then I get my carry pistol, XDs Mod2 OSP 3.3 inch and by a Crimson trace 1550 that fit okay screws lined up just fine it even had 3 different types of screws BUT after tightening screws down the dot would still move in the very front it would pop up just a hair. So I ultimately got fed up and took the dot back for a return.
I don't think that the Holosun prices are that much considering the value packed features. Additionally I have seen their prices drop. What I paid for the 507C X2 years ago is what the EPS is going for now. Additionally their customer support is outstanding. I only had to use them once and they were extremely responsive to me. They have top notch feature rich products, superior customer service and they are reasonably priced. What's not to like?
I just got a Holosun 507K Gr x2 for my Hellcat OSP. I really don't like adapter plate usage but till I find a gunsmith to work on the slide, I'll run the plate. I'm 51 and green works best for me. I have only put 2 mags through the pistol, I have lots of training to do! Really like the Holosun.
I've got Holosun Red dots on my Hellcats but went with Green dots on my Hellcat Pros (a different brand because I didn't like grinding down the rear posts on my Hellcat so the Holosun would fit)...today is my 55th birthday and I see the green dots a little better too...of course they aren't tiny little dots, but rather somewhat amorphous blobs at this age
EPS carry is great, only issue with it on a shield plus is you have to use the adapter plate. This allows you to only see the top half of your sights. Other than that, it’s great (based on personal experience). One other thing, my battery died and I went and bought a $10 battery. Holosun sent me another battery but FYI.
I personally use the Leupold Deltapoint Micro on my Glock 21. Smallest optic available which makes it very low profile and doesn't need a slide cut to install as it replaces the rear sight. Simple to adjust the settings with a push of a button, a huge battery life of 11 years on the low setting, and has been extremely durable. It also has "shake awake" where it shuts off after awhile saving battery life. Only downside is it looks ugly, but is practical which is what matters most.
Romeo Zero's are absolutely breaking hence the "Elite" model. Seen a lot of guys who were running them in competitions who bumped the optic on a barrier and their glass fell out. We've had several Sig P365X and XL's in my work that came with it already mounted, you give them a little bump, the glass pops out. Now as far as the body itself breaking, I've not seen anything to suggest it's a weak design in terms of cracking and etc. But if that's all it takes to turn your optic into a useless item it's got some serious design flaws.
@@sylvanusthayer2198 I usually talked people out of buying the ones pre-equipped as not only were they not really getting the optic at some kind of discounted rate, but for whatever reason Sig doesn't ship out a basic optic cover in the box with those but they do put them in the packaging when sold separately. But most people honestly don't want an optic on a gun that small anyhow. I always reminded them IF they wanted one later they could add it but if they decide not to then they don't have to worry.
I bought one with the sight pre installed because I got it for the same price as an original XL. Im definitely not a fan of the sight and will probably change it out soon
FWIW, I got a RomeoZero for free when I joined USCCA and figured why the hell not use it. It’s been on my P365XL for almost two years and the battery hasn’t died and it held zero. The polymer lens scratched up, but it’s still usable.
The crimson trace micro pro in green has a major flaw and crimson trace should be doing a recall but isn't. If you let it go to sleep in the dark (nightstand) and pick it up in the dark it will not wake up until it senses light. They replaced mine with the red one and said they knew about it. My only option was taking the cheaper model for replacement and eating the cost difference. I posted a video of this on my Instagram
Currenly waitng on the EPS carry to be available in green MRS. Maybe its a color temperature thing but I have no issues seeing the green reticle on a 507K in a variety of green outdoor environments and can actually run the green slightly dimmer than my red 507K. In dark or very low light the green is clearly superior - to my eyes anyway.Your mileage may vary... Good video. I'll take honest appraisal over marketing 'enthusiasm' all day long.
I love the green dot and wish Trijicon had a version for the SRO all my holosuns and the one Swampfox I have are green. For anyone with an astigmatism they are the way to go
My romeo lasted two hundred rounds on my 365, and only 500 rounds on my 322. The left battery contact broke on it. Once I get a new one from Sig after warranty, it will probably go back on my 322. That's about the only use I really see for it. If I wasn't getting a new one, I'd be ordering the PA micro dot. At least on the PA sight, the brightness settings are on the outside of the optic. My Sig now has my dads 507k. I upgraded his G48 to the EPS Carry because he didn't clean out the optic window as much as he should. Eventually, I'll get a EPS carry on my Sig. Kenzie optics still has my money for one at least.
I really just came to hear about the Holosun but appreciat the additional reviews to confirm what I hoped for. Thanks. I just wish they had one for my Taurus PT 92 AFSD. Dandahermit
Hops style both aesthetic and types of shots used is evolving. And I'm here for it. Dude is the definition of not a shill and when he speaks I tend to listen with slightly more open ears and less skepticism with most other "guntubers". Also he seems to have a disdain for the ridiculous-ie brands that charge for more than they deliver simply because they can aka alot of the gucci brands.
Watched this many months ago, and again just now, with many other reviewers’ EPS videos in between. This one is still the most helpful - though there are some other very good ones out there. And though there are always exceptions for individual differences in how our eyes pick up red vs green, your take on the subject is right on. I almost bought into the green hype until I compared how my eyes actually pick up red vs green. It’s red for me and EPS over the competition - and in both cases, not even close.
Yessir! I even chose the 508T over the Trijicon RMR for my 10mm P320 due to features, durability and price difference. The RMR simply can no longer compete.
@@RedEyePergo it's one of the main reasons I bought it! The 32 moa circle with the 2 moa dot helps me wonders with target acquisition. Plus it can be switched to the dot or circle only! So there's options.

I have the Holosun 507c on my CZ P10C. The only problem I've had, is that the tiny screw (M2x0.4mm x 4mm)holding the battery tray, came out after a couple of hundred rounds at the range. A screw size that could be hard to find at the local hardware store, so be sure to use blue loctite (or similar) on that thing. Looks like the Holosun in this video have the exact same screw.
@@2aisabsoluteTim , yup, that is pretty screwed up🙂 I love holosun, but I think they messed up this part of the design. I think a simple snap lock would have done a better job than a microscopic size screw..

Thank you for this! I love Holosun sights and Trijicon and Aimpoint!! No offense to the other manufacturers. Sig makes great guns but they lack with their optics the romeo5 isn’t bad. I Could not stand the Romeo zero optic! I would say if you are looking for that budget red dot Holosun reigns supreme . Their multiple reticle system for the price point blows away the comp. I have a few Acro P2’s and I still enjoy shooting my 507c 🤙🏽
Thank you Hop. Good review. I have a HOLOSUN 509T on my RUGER 57 pistol and a "Most Excellent" AEMS on my RUGER PC chassis carbine. IMHO theAEMS is the perfect PCC "red dot".
The 407k x2 in green is what I wound up putting on my Mossberg mc2sc. The only other options I considered were the littlest Swampfox option or Viridian’s green dot since they both have shake awake and manual brightness adjustments.
Bought a Sig 365 XL last year and while purchasing they asked if I wanted it with a red dot Sig Romeo or not. I declined and popped on my Holosun 507k which was on a Ruger Max 9 and am glad I did. The deal was cheaper that buying both the gun and Romeo separately but not enough to make it worth it.
407k green x2 on a Shield plus and works very well for me. 1200 rounds in and had to re seat the mounting screws since they became loose. Yes I used blue lock tight but I’m not concerned since it took that many rounds to occur.
Astigmatism here! I looked through red and green, 2moa and 6moa. Don’t listen to what anyone tells you because you need to see for yourself. I was sold by the internet on a green 6 for astigmatism and ended up with a red 2.
Your evaluation of the CT Green Dot is right on. Can't find the dot in sunlight and the battery life sucks, I've already returned mine once. I'm considering a Holosun.
“Adjusting the brightest and dot of the sig Romeo 0 has probably been the most difficult thing in my life” 😂😂😂🤦🏼♂️ we all needed this honesty my brother has the original romeo0 on a hellcat pro and I agree same type of button lay out is annoying to press but not impossible and I do personally feel I like that the original Romeo 0 you use the button to adjust brightness compared to what I just learned from this video the Romeo 0 elite you have to tap the side of the optic not a fan of that as well as they didn’t change the way to insert a battery smh 🤦🏼♂️
I don't have a slimline but I have a Holosun 507c and had a rmr. I've seen a sig Romeo zero and a crimson trace. Maybe I'm biased but Holosun has been my favorite, the glass isn't as tinted as the rmr and has a more crisp reticle than the others I've seen plus I like the multiple reticle option because I prefer the dot but some days my astigmatism is worse or I forget my glasses so I'll use the circle only reticle and the battery last forever and I like the auto brightness
I think you missed an opportunity, RITON OPTICS 3 TACTIX MPRD 2 is a lesser known micro red dot w/the same footprint. Being able to had currently for $100 is definitely way better optic than the Crimson Trace for less money.
I threw my Romeo Zero in a box and got a Swampfox Sentinel. The romeo zero is junk. Maybe the elite is better. I know it's cheap. But that plastic lense is ridiculous. It scratches easily. Lense cleaning wipes and a optic cleaning pen scratches it. The brightness button is tiny. And theres not many ways to adjust it without touching the back of the lense. If you have OCD tendencies and the scratches distract you. Only use canned air to clean it. Also I had to put a extra shim under the battery. It would get a bad connection during recoil and turn off. If scratches, fingerprints and dirt on the lense don't bother you. It's a ok optic if you're not sure about them. It held zero. Not something you would want on a primary carry gun.
Just built a P80 g43 with an optics cut. I was wondering what would fit. I like that enclosed emitter. That's cool. Probably just gonna do the 407k because I am a poor. Now, what to light it with, and a good holster...
I have all green dots, all on holosuns, I love the green and they are all very bright even in bright sunlight.. I have the EPS carry MRS on the way and have high hopes for it.. Oh and its coming in Jungle green as well. Lol
"except for perhaps Mars." made me chuckle quite a bit. Just remember, northern hemisphere in the fall (Autum) has a lot of yellow, orange, and yes even red. Will it mess with a red dot sight? probably not as much as a green dot against an entire forest. But there is some effect. That said, green dots are good for cities more than rural areas, whereas red dots are good all-around but there are fewer red lights for your eyes to contend with at night in the country than the city. js.
I've been pleasantly surprised by the performance of the Crimson Trace RAD series. I've had everything from Trijicon RMRs to Vortexes to UTGs to ADE (LARP) optics and the Crimson Trace sights are really a great option for the money. But if you were to pick up a Holosun, you likely won't be disappointed. They're really good optics but don't expect them to take the beating that a Trijicon or Aimpoint will.
I have the RZE, I hold the button for 10 seconds to change the reticle, and if you press the button it cycles through all of the brightness settings going from low to high, then back down from high to low. Once it’s figured out it’s not so bad, but the instructions certainly aren’t clear enough.
I got a RDS, slapped it on my P365xl, and discovered I have mild astigmatism, making RDS a worse option than the night sights that were on there. Wanted to love my 407k but after using a prismatic RDS with full clarity, I simply can't justify it over irons for a CCW. If a prismatic micro RDS hits the market that isn't garbo, I'll get that.
Green dot may be my only option, with my color blindness. That's what I have read, the red disappears for people who have red-green color blindness, while the green still shows up.
Like my Holosun 508T solar panel back up red dot. And use a C&H Precision aluminum mounting plate and stainless steel screws with blue loc-tite to hold it secure.

Now as far as the body itself breaking, I've not seen anything to suggest it's a weak design in terms of cracking and etc. But if that's all it takes to turn your optic into a useless item it's got some serious design flaws.
Agreed. The sig optic is trash and just a way to increase the price of the pistols they sell that come with them, whether you want the optic or not.
@@riskyflash6812 same here. No problems with EDC and moderate range usage
Its very tempting to purchase the EPS Carry , but I'm going to wait a little longer for a Made in the USA closed emitter.
This was a helpful comparison, great video
The crimson trace micro pro in green has a major flaw and crimson trace should be doing a recall but isn't. If you let it go to sleep in the dark (nightstand) and pick it up in the dark it will not wake up until it senses light. They replaced mine with the red one and said they knew about it. My only option was taking the cheaper model for replacement and eating the cost difference. I posted a video of this on my Instagram
That's pretty fucked up
Currenly waitng on the EPS carry to be available in green MRS.
Dandahermit
I see the EPS has the added benefit of having the Holosun logo already blacked out so you don’t have to go over it with a Sharpie 😂
Hop without caps and raybans hit the uncanny valley
Why Files representing.
I bet Holosun is working on an EPS Carry w/the ACSS Vulcan reticle in it. 😉
If so, I'll be buying a gun with that pattern slide, probably a 365
That'd bring down the battery life even further.
Might tougher since it's more compact (purely speculation for the fact that 509 and 509 ACSS are different in size)
Good job. You've explained many elements to consider when buying a red dot.
Damn, who knew Hop would clean up that well?
Idk about Holosun but you're _my_ number one.
It’s red for me and EPS over the competition - and in both cases, not even close.
holosun surpassed trijicon in my eyes with the 508T /509T and they ran away with the scs thats the future of pistol dots
Yessir! I even chose the 508T over the Trijicon RMR for my 10mm P320 due to features, durability and price difference. The RMR simply can no longer compete.
Id take a 407c green over an rmr tbh
@@chrish3274 same I put a 508T on my edc the Canik Combat Executive ,love that eotech style reticle
@@RedEyePergo it's one of the main reasons I bought it! The 32 moa circle with the 2 moa dot helps me wonders with target acquisition.
Plus it can be switched to the dot or circle only! So there's options.
@@chrish3274 agreed ! its perfect for cqb and i can even make shots out to 100 yds by just focusing my eyes in on the 2 moa dot . you run an aems or 512c on your rifle too ?
Okay hop what background you want? let's go with... 4th of July rocket popsicle
As someone who is partially colorblind, green is far easier for me to deal with
Being color blind a green dot is a must for me.
Thanks, I'll stick by my Vortex Venom.
Was wondering about that. Thanks for posting.
That's pretty screwed up
I'll def put a bit of blue loctite on it today
Thanks for info
@@2aisabsoluteTim , yup, that is pretty screwed up🙂 I love holosun, but I think they messed up this part of the design. I think a simple snap lock would have done a better job than a microscopic size screw..
@@mikaeljonsson2078 think I'll also go to the Home Depot see they have same screw different color 🤣🤣🤣
Either way so long as I have extra screws < that's what she said
@@2aisabsoluteTim haha🤣
good ole tfb. James is out touring looking a exotic guns and the red headed step child hop is left at home to play with whatever budget gear they leave him.
It's tough love dialed up to 11.
@@AndyCigars it's also funny hop does the budget stuff on tfb and spends ungodly amounts in night vision and his PTR's on his own channel.
@@D.M.Luiz. he's the best. He and James are perfect complements to each other...they create a force greater than the sum of the parts.
the holosun 507k is by far the best optic for the price and it has multiple dots to pick from
Thank you for this!
Well, if I ever decide to jump into the red dot game, Holosun is the way to go! Outstanding info sir, thank you.
Why would you not? It's the way to go
The 407k x2 in green is what I wound up putting on my Mossberg mc2sc. The only other options I considered were the littlest Swampfox option or Viridian’s green dot since they both have shake awake and manual brightness adjustments.
What a useful review. I will purchase the EPS Carry. Thank you.
Great video! No bs just straight to the point, facts, and footage. You just earned a subscriber!
Showing off the new hair cut.
Go ahead, Hop. Give us a little “Blue Steel”
Thank you Hop! I was shopping and actually looking at this one this week.
What's the deal with the mounting setup on the Glock 43X MOS and when will Holosun release a direct-mount optic a-la the SCS-MOS??
Get a mounting plate. One issue I’ve run into is torqueing the screw on the ejector side, at holosun spec the ejector doesn’t function correctly.
The red RAD Micro Pro doesn't suffer from dim illumination.
That’s not a colored background, that’s just Hops aura, it’s visible like Rick James’ was.
UNITYYYYYYYYYYY!
Hop approved is good enough for me.
Great video! Lots of important info presented and articulated well.
Just built a P80 g43 with an optics cut. I was wondering what would fit. I like that enclosed emitter. That's cool. Probably just gonna do the 407k because I am a poor. Now, what to light it with, and a good holster...
I prefer green illuminated reticles because they are much easier to see in Australia.
Holosun is really getting good.
Red dots are a huge help with my 75 year old eyesight. The front sight has become fuzzy, the red dot is a cure…
Same for me at 60
I rock holosun on everything
My EDC is my Max 9 with the red Rad micro. I'm almost as fast and accurate as my Unlimited Class IPSC piece. I am truly amazed.
Thank you very much
I’m thinking that the fully in closed HS is the best one.
Now if only the EPS was in stock, well, anywhere.
What about the tactical mullet, the Leupold Delta point Micro? Great video as always!
I'm happy with my two solar powered Holosuns on my M17 and 9mm AR.
Hop is a real one.
I have all green dots, all on holosuns, I love the green and they are all very bright even in bright sunlight.. I have the EPS carry MRS on the way and have high hopes for it.. Oh and its coming in Jungle green as well. Lol
That moment you read the title and know hops going to be reviewing it before you even click
I just picked up my first red dot. I now see why people like them. They make shooting damn near stupid easy.
That said, green dots are good for cities more than rural areas, whereas red dots are good all-around but there are fewer red lights for your eyes to contend with at night in the country than the city. js.
Just wish I could find a EPS Carry.
I am WAITING for the large RDs to be put on micro compacts NEXT... I DONT CARE how big they are... I want the fast acquisition !!!!!! on my EDC ❗
You should bring the trademarked concrete inside to the fancy new studio with mood lighting. I can loan you my concrete wet saw.
Hop went from looking like Walmart Kevin Bacon to Target Jean Claude Van Damme with just a haircut.
Bruh
I have the RZE, I hold the button for 10
seconds to change the reticle, and if you press the button it cycles through all of the brightness settings going from low to high, then back down from high to low. Once it’s figured out it’s not so bad, but the instructions certainly aren’t clear enough.
Thanks for the great comparison review.
I love my Burris Fastfire 4. Hated any Sig optics. Felt cheap. Holoson is ok, I have the EPS carry on my CCW.
Green dot may be my only option, with my color blindness. That's what I have read, the red disappears for people who have red-green color blindness, while the green still shows up.
"Behind every blade of grass, will be a Chinesium optic."
- Adm. Yamamoto, probably.
Dude is straight out of night crawler
Like my Holosun 508T solar panel back up red dot. And use a C&H Precision aluminum mounting plate and stainless steel screws with blue loc-tite to hold it secure.
10:47. I don't know why, but that $h!t3 cracked me up. Well played Hop.
