When I was still working (now retired), I put the next day’s outfit together every evening and dealt with the clothes I had worn that day (steaming, airing, putting in the laundry, etc). It saved so much stress in the morning, when I just wanted to read for an hour before getting ready for work, I got up early every day to do that. Working full time, often long hours, I was deprived of reading time, essential for me.
I always feel better-dressed with that third piece, like a blazer or other jacket. We’re still in the hottest part of the year here in California, but I can’t wait to get my blazers and leather jackets out. And boots!
My most common outfit is business professional. I simplified by having 4 basic bottoms, 3 blazers, 6 blouses, 1 cardigan, a skirt & 2 dresses. This makes it easy to dress in the morning. I pick a colorful blouse and chose the slacks & blazer that best showcase the blouse. We have winter here 🇨🇦 for 7 months of the year (-19C today) so I only wear the skirt and dresses in the other 3 seasons. I don't own accessories, I keep shoes neutral and only own 1 purse. I prefer very clean & classic styles & looks.
How you adressed it as if there is one main direction of style which is the base, and then that the layers on top are the alternative directions really made something click for me. I love the causal feel, but I get a bit bored with it. Now I feel like I can have a casual base and an eclectic alternative style direction that I put on top of that!
I always say that the shoes set the tone and level of formality of the outfit. How different my simple, solid color dresses look with mid-heeled pumps vs. sneakers!
Your videos are so helpful. I'm clueless! I think I spent too long trying to look how my husband wanted me to look, or like other women I see.. it's time to dress for myself, for the woman I am (not this fantasy self!) and what suits me. I should've done it a long time ago, but I'm grateful I realized my mistake and am doing it now. Can't wait to watch more videos - thank you so much x
Also, the high-low concept is completely new to my generation (I’m 61). Wearing a silk shirt with jeans, or a t-shirt with a silk skirt, for example, was almost unthinkable in the 70s and 80s. It was said they “didn’t go together”, like with like was the rule. We have so many more interesting options now, just by abandoning that rule alone. I remember the first time I wore a t-shirt with a skirt suit to the office, or an above-the-knee skirt, I was expecting a reprimand those first times. It helped that the t-shirt was a silky, brocade-patterned one, it passed. As for the short skirt, by the following week everyone was wearing theirs, too. We all had them, but someone had to break the ice. Some stodgy execs grumbled, but they enjoyed looking at female legs so much, they capitulated. (Mine was a very formal, corporate office with a written and, more importantly, unwritten dress code).
Loved the “mixing different style directions” tip! Sometimes I do head-to-toe androgynous, so its nice to be reminded that it would be good to add some feminine elements as well 😊
Great video !!! I really needed this. I've been in a little style rut the past couple of weeks. So thank you so much. I love your videos always so informative

...hello Signe, thank you for this video, always a big inspiration :c) I think you should think about your own Podcast :c) I love listening to your voice - relaxing and calm... Greetings from sunny Florida :c)
I love a matching belt, bag and shoes. It might be partly my generation, but I have another reason: rather than making these accessories stand out, I think it quiets down a look. Because they’re all, more or less, the same color, they make a consistent background that brings forward the clothing. They sort of blur together, if that makes sense. I want to look well dressed and chic, but in a quiet, understated sort of way. That’s why I avoid bright colors, also, they’re too attention-demanding, much more difficult to style, and don’t suit my coloring. I’ve wasted too much money and effort trying to make colors work with the rest of my wardrobe, so I’m sticking with neutrals and a few pastels that suit me.
Great tips Signe. Love your simple approach to dressing. Can you please tell me if your black blazer is the oversized wool hopsack one from Arket or is it a similar one? Many thanks x
I’m curious what have you found that’s working for you *bottoms now that you’re a mom *mom of four and would love to not always wear leggings BUT they work 🤷🏽♀️
I still love my 100% cotton jeans but must admit, most days I tend to grab those with a bit of stretch - or my tailored trousers as they are quite soft around the tummy and legs too! ☺️
Since my name starts with an 'E', i was immediately taken by the ring with the letter but cannot find it on your website.... am I blind or can you help me?
It’s not part of her collection. It’s a diy packet sold by Stilnest (that also sells Signe’s jewellery line) where you create your own ring. You make a drawing and a mock sample which you then send back to Stilnest. After a few weeks you receive a package with the ring they made of your design. Signe choose an E because of her daughter. She made at least one video about it. That one might have more information.
Hej Signe! Rigtig fin video; jeg og i UK og savner dansk inspiration, så det er rigtig fint at se dig og dit danske hjem. Lige et lille tip; accessory/accessories udtales sådan her: ua-cam.com/video/LPmRvLVy2Pk/v-deo.html

Honestly I’ve never been one to plan my outfits but I think it would be so much fun and push more creativity 🥰

I have huge round iris apfel eyeglasses can those be used as a statement piece? I have been wanting to style my wardrobe around them.
Yes! It can.
Totally! Just like any other accessory, I feel like they would serve as one of those focal points too 👌🏻
Thanks Signe ❤

Thank you! The one from Arket is just a similar option, as the one I have is around 8 years old and thus no longer available 💘🙏🏻 xx
