Thanks a million for sharing this knowledge just what i needed. Last night i was having a hard time with them and couldn't understand why they were being spooked so easily. But this video totally explains it. Thanks again.
Great video and explanation of the spook meter and scent push. Thank you. I've found that the start stop method works the best. I got within 40m of a pack of wolves doing this. I've also found that when animals are alert, you can move sideways without spooking them, but not forwards or backwards.
Awesome video man! The mechanics are great in this game, this is basically the way we walk and stalk in Africa. So satisfying to play a game like this!
I am enjoying this game. I sat still watching and waiting in an ambush for a while one time. Then to hear hoof steps beside me, turned slowly to have mule deer walking past within 5 metres.
Thanks a million for this! I don’t know how many I’ve spooked from this meter. I was catching up to the concept but I didn’t really know if I was right about it or not but this give me the clarity I needed!
@@bumblewoot may I ask you for more advice. I’ve found it so difficult to locate animals at times and I think my approach is definitely flawed. I usually go about aimlessly and see what I run into. The main reasoning being to discover the map. I honestly hate the wood congested places because the animals spook easily as you said in the video. Would you advice finding need zones as high priority around each of the boundaries? I’ve never hunted before and never had the interest in it until this game. So I’m still working around the concept of need zones and how to have the best guess of where to find animals.
@@unclesgames great questions. What makes a great hunting game is it's ability to give the player many different styles of hunting. From spot and stalk styles to ambush strategies. This game is missing quite a few. Looks like you do not enjoy stalking in the woods. Which is understandable. It is quite difficult. Maybe you would enjoy the ambush side of things? Do you use the toolkit website? I would start with the easiest ambush method and that is the 9am to noon drink zone setups. I would prioritize finding the drink need zones and when you get more comfortable with the game, start setting up at rest zones. You can also setup and ambush in between the zones when the animals are traveling. That is a little more difficult. But is also an example of the different styles of ambush. It requires patience though. But it's nice to be able to sit back and watch a herd come walking in and have time to spot them all. Happy hunting 😃
@@bumblewoot thank you so much for your time and reply. I think that gives me some direction! I’ll be walking the river streams to try pick up those suggested zones. Should be a perfect way to start. If you ever host a server, I would love to join and see you in action. Happy hunting!
Thanks for your explanation and info. I found exactly what you said correct, in my experience. I find if the animal gets to a point that I can't see them. I get out of the circle of alert and try to approach at a higher angle and view point. Takes a lot of time but can move faster out of alert zone. It usually is higher and a longé shot. Patience is the name of this game.
@@bumblewoot Another thing I noticed, if you spook Elk, but they haven't run, instantly call them a couple of times they seem to calm down again. Works about 50% of the time. Got within twenty metres yesterday of a group of Elk, took some time, 1 and 2 steps at a time on slow crouch around a hill. It was quit cool watching them so close. Until the 3 star got up and walked up to me then realized I was in the bush watching. Then all ran. got a screen shot in public view under "Bogie" in steam. The binoculars say forty, but is focus one the grass behind. I keep on losing 5 star from old age or forgetting where I saw them to come back and see if they have changed to 5 Star
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your time and effort that you put into this video. Stopping seems to be the secret for allowing the AI'S sensory guage to fill back up even if they smell you. I have found, so far, that the darker the coat the older the sheep. Again thank you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Thanks for the vid! Can now confirm what you have said regarding the sight: was laying on the little hill waiting for scouts. All of a sudden a male elk came out of the bushes and went directly to me, the wind was opposite direction, so the purple mist was spreading away from him. He was within 5 meters of me and not even alert. I did not want to shoot him as i had no proper gun on me nor he was a trophy. So i decided to spook him and from laying i went directly into stand up position. Right in front of him, i could touch him with mi rifle if i’d stretch it forward. He stopped and stared at me. I was not moving and he was just standing. And then i jumped and then i jumped again. Jumping obviously creates loud sound, but after first jump he kept staring it me, and only after i jumped for the second time he slammed away, alerting the whole herd. So clearly there is this “hidden meter”, even though he saw me directly and heard me jumping, he needed some time to build the meter to full before he ran off.
As someone who has a decent handle on the spook-mechanic I think you did a good job explaining it! :) Just started getting back into the game (hope some of the game flaws are getting ironed out, some good looking patches coming up!) Relearning what I'd forgotten. Oh hey do you know if the new furs based on age are translated to the taxidermy model or is it still the same fur on each male trophy as it has been?
Hey Perry. I did find it challenging to try and explain the spook mechanics because a lot of it is still unknown. As far as the fur goes, I think it is still the same. I don't get many animals worth stuffing, so I do not get to compare much. I hope they have that fixed or get that fixed. We should get an exact replica of what we shoot for taxidermy. It's just another one of those things revealing that the game should have been released early access. It's just not done. Thanks for stopping by!
Spooking in the game has to do with animals seeing you or hearing and smelling you. Most animals can't see crap in the game. But they HEAR and SMELL YOU mostly, If crouch walking. To cut to the end of the chase. If the wind is in your face and you crouch walk while in game the only thing they have is SOUND. Sound is added up by "ANY TYPE" of movement, even though we don't have a meter for it in game at this time. So once you spot a herd. You should move then stop...move then stop...move then stop. When you stop "the added up noise meter drops down". I said my 2cents worth. I watched farther into the video and I have to ask? why all of the head snapping W/O picking up the animals? How do we do this in game? Just my two cents.?
Thanks for this video. Normally, the direction and strength of the wind should also have an influence on the range of the sound. Do you think this is also taken into account by developers? There is also a small imperfection: sometimes you can hear the cries of the animals while they are on the other side of a high rocky peak. I think they can hear us in that situation as well. With the hunter's instinct, the icon lights up against the wall facing us.
lots of credit to you as sticking with woth over cotw! no one else has done from the youtube channels ive been watching over the past few weeks for me personally woft died with the Halloween update and how long it took for them to make things right? which they didnt really do way to many bugs after every update and long times to try and fix multi-player is still awful single player still has way to many bugs i garrentee this game will die in the next 12months
The game can be pretty rough sometimes. My little videos seem to be enjoyed by a few hundred players of woth and that's enough for me to keep doing videos on it. It's enough just making a few people happy. 😃

You have it exactly right. Alot of people do not have the patience to relocate. I'm one of them a lot of the time 😃

Ahhh… could the purpose of the first mission (harvesting the black sheep) be a testament of that theory maybe?
great video, really love the way of the hunter content! really helpful, informative stuff you’ve got :)
Awesome, thank you!

Yep. You got it. It takes a little getting used to. It's not a bad system, just different 😃
Good info and confirms what I had found. Nice to finally see someone else playing in ranger mode. Subbed
Thanks! sorry for the delayed response. Somehow you snuck by 😀
great video, l love the way you explain things.
Thanks! Glad it helps 😀
Great informative video man, will be trying this when I get home from work
Thanks! Good luck on the hunt 😃
I hope they add descent spray and camouflage gear that actually works.
Great intel. Thank you so much.
Excellent.
Great video
I’ve noticed other animals I didn’t realize I spooked run into the herd I was hunting and it in turn spooked them.
Can't imagine this game on ranger.. wow great video though thank you!
Ranger feels like a whole new game 😃
I can say elk have the smallest spook bar. A hint too hunting them? But one of the tier 6 guns and shoot them at a distance.
Great video 👍
This game is awesome. Now this game needs wintry weather and pronghorn.
I certainly agree!

Very hard to test the sound with the wind. I don't think the sound carries on the wind in the game.
did they stop us from getting on top of the jeep?
Oh no! Did they take away our jeep hunting stand? boooo. I'm gonna go rage at the developers if this is the case lol
on hunter difficulty most animals i spook dont even give an alert call they just book it
the alert meter builds are quite fast on hunter
You sound like Jeff Goldblum
Never heard the one before, but I'll take it 😃👍

i believe scarecrow and flinter also still play this
Now do it on hard difficulty without the aim assist!
This guys is getting so many vegetation pops
